  • Dude, it's 2 years since you posted this. I'm still waiting to be amazed.

  • @BB42432 Ha ha, i know, i have still not finished the job i was doing..Got a bit distracted with other things!!!

    john..

  • Shapers were at one time,a production machine, but mills are much faster at simple jobs, and a CNC Mill is great if you want to make a zillion identical parts.Shapers are quick to set up for the one off jobs typical in a home shop, where your payoff is a piece of well made unobtanium, and your main objective is not to make it as fast as possible. They also can cut internal keyways and splines which you can't on a mill.Price out a broach, to to cut the splines for your Rudge Ulster kickstart shaft!

  • a 2 minute CNC job in my MAZAK

  • @quadcatfly What if it is? Two minutes with no skill at all required.

  • @caerleon87 hahaha you're so right

  • @caerleon87 Yeah, to see sucha machine working is like meditation. If you want to see real shaping meditation, take a lok at the channel on "muellernick".

  • If you had a lathe and a mill or just a mill (which was mentioned in the video) why in the world would you use a shaper???

  • @Southpointoh - Shapers are largely outmoded tools now, true, but there are still some applications they're good for. Keyways, in particular. Still, knowledge of shapers and how they're used can help in understanding other machining operations

  • why didn't you face the brass plate in a lathe?

  • @slome815 The lathe i had at the time did not have a chuck or faceplate large enough!!! Also, in a lathe it would be difficult not to have some sort of mark at least left in the centre of the piece, where the cut would effectively end.

  • it is GOLD :)

  • Wish it was!!!!

  • Thx man for the video man , I really had to watch this ..

  • Thanks!!

  • Are yo an Engineer ? I Rlly like ur videos ..

  • Hi, Sort of!! i have been doing this sort of thing since i was about 13 so i have done a bit!! Everything i do is self taught, but just to prove that i am actually good at what i do i went to college to take the exams to prove it!! I did 4 years worth of qualifications in a few months, and i did not even go, i just went and passed all the exams and assignments!!

  • Good job , u desirve that ..

  • Hi John,

That looks really interesting! That shaper does a nice finish! Can't wait to see what its going to be. Your engineering skills look ace!! Well done!
