  • Hey what size screwdrivers did you need to use to do this? Mine got messed up at a concert and I'm thinking of just going ahead and trying it myself.

  • You work fast.

  • not sure about the grease as dirt will stick to it. the nylon will slide with out it

  • @UltimaGaina I'm also getting this error about cleaning the contacts after repairing the stuck lens. Autofocus works, 1.4f works, but like you any other aperture i get the error. What exactly did you do to pop the lens back in cradle?

  • Ya I kinda thought so, Maybe sometime I'll look into getting a 35mm film slr if they're still made new or a nice used one in good shape. 35mm film slr's last a life time if taken real good care of. Thanks again. It's a shame that dslr's only last for so long and they seem to overheat and not work so good,so you gotta shut them off some times to let em cool down a bit then it an be used again. Don't get me wrong dslr's are are awesome as well and I like my Canon 7D.

  • @krazy4baja I have about 80 film cameras. One of my favorites is a 1957 Leica M3. I use it the most. I do also have a few older 60's-70's SLR cameras that I use sometimes. A 1973 Canon F1 and a few Pentax Spotmatics too. But I prefer rangefinder cameras for lower light photography. Not many companies are still making film cameras anymore.

  • Ok thanks, Ya I miss the days of 35mm film SLR'S. I had a Pentax super program with 50mm lens which I really liked. I made the mistake of lending it to a friend for a wedding and it ended up damaged beyond repair. Really don't care for DSLR'S but what ya gonna do unless 35mm slr film cameras are still made and you can still get the film developed. I know film still can be developed but everyones using dslr's now.

  • @krazy4baja You can get film developed at alot of places around here in 1hr. I develop my own black & white. I don't use and digital cameras. Film just has a more beautiful look. Digital looks so steril and I can't stand it. FIlm for life for me =)

  • Is this a common problem on newer lenses in the L series or the cheaper canon 50mm. I won't buy one if this is the case.

  • I don't think its a issue with the L series. These lenses are all plastic where I believe the L series are metal. I miss the days of manual film cameras where most lenses were built tough as nails.

  • @AlexisG73 Only parts of the L series are metal. Canon has almost phased out all metal designed lenses.

  • Great!. I fix mine and one other for my friend too... If all is going wright it is just 35 min work... :)

  • i watched this video just when i bought the lens. N now i hv the same problem. it stucked. i hv to turn the focusing ring back n forth several times to make it work. i wish i hv the guts to open it up like u do. but someday i wil :D. Good job bro!

  • I got a stuck lens on canon digital ixus i. may be an old gadget, but its still useable. except for that damn stuck lens. do you have any DIY fix for it?

  • excellent work, thank you very much for sharing ... I just finished restoring mine ..

    You were very helpful

  • so should i not try this if i have never taken apart a lens before in my life?

mine auto focuses, but not closer than 1.5meters. which basically renders the lens useless to me.

is it worth trying or could i seriously screw it up?

  • great vid! no idea as to why 2 disliked it

  • Just sent mine out today. Got it on the 10th and the focus already went bad. :(

  • Woo! I just fixed my AF on the same type of lens, your video was a big help! Thank you so much for uploading this!

  • Today I fixed mine! Thanks for this video and link to the pictures with description. I am sharing it also on my blog, thanks again!

  • @STGyro1 Congrats! Mine is still working great = )

  • I just used some zebco fishing reel grease I had laying around. You don't need much.

  • also, What kind of grease did you use? Thanks!

  • It gave me headache trying to slow down the video on my brain. lol! thanks for posting, I'll try to open mines. Mines doesn't focus and sound rough some times when it tries. : D

  • Thanks for posting this video and the link as well. I had the same AF problem and seriously thought my lens was done for. Just got it fixed a few mins ago

  • I'm not sure I can pull this off... Jesus it looks lie too much work.

  • @davis911228 It can be overwhelming if your not used to working on small stuff. If your not sure about doing it then I would just get it repaired. Or you can sell it as a manual focus lens. I think you can still get $150 or so for it as is on ebay.

  • @AlexisG73 Actually I was having this problem with a 1.8 someone gave me for free. I have a 1.4 that works fine so I didn't care too much about the 1.8. It wouldn't work even on manual and the camera wouldn't shutter... Like an ERR. So, was holding it one day, spinning it by the focus ring because I considered it garbage anyway when I felt it extend. I put it on a camera and what do you know... It works fine... Has every since Strange.

  • TNX AlexisG73 i just fixed my 50mm 1.4

  • @bobbymgl That's awesome! Good work :-)
