Everyone in 19 either complained about the weather, other people, or in Foa Foa's case their slim chances. Russell loved the weather and he had a positive attitude about his chances come merge. The only time Russell said negative things about players it was directed towards their gameplay(shes a stupid player, nobody else is playing),never about their character. Wheres all the Russell hate coming from? do u people actually WANT to see a boring season??
Love him or hate him, Russell forever changed the game. Before Russell did it, nobody would've even thought to search for idols without a clue (Kristina in Redemption Island with Rob, Christie in Redemtion Island with Coach). it's subtle things like that that truly show his greatness, beyond all the daring moves he made, because his innovation really carried on to influence players in every single season since 19. without him, that season mightve been the most boring and unneventful in history
If survivor meant just getting to the finals, then he truly is one of the best. but that isn't just what survivor is. I loved him in samoa and he was even more impressive in HvV. but he can't be called the best because he COMPLETELY IGNORES a huge dimension of the game which is getting votes!

Everybody have this picture of Russell being evil and false but after have seen all episodes one thing strikes me; he never throws ad hominem remarks, unlike many other players who talk trash about people behind their back, Russell never gets personal, sure he can call someone stupid etc. but it is always in the context of playing the game, not as a personal attack. On the contrast; many of the players who talks about honorable play almost always is SPEWING contempt on other players. Thumbs up!!
Hantz is just way overrated now. In the past 5 Survivor seasons, Russell has been in 3 of them and his nephew Brandon is in the current one. I mean, I like having contestants coming back for a 2nd or 3rd time to play Survivor. In fact, I'm glad Ozzy came to back to play, I'm liking South Pacific a lot better than last season. But give it at least a few seasons before bringing back a previous contestant. Generally, viewers will get tired of constantly bringing back the same contestant.
He's a horrible player. He had no social skills in the past 2 seasons and that's why he never wins. All he does is rely on immunity idols to get to the end. Without them, he'd get voted off straight away, as you can see in redemption island.

wanna shove all the bitter juries of survivor into a room and watch Bruce Boudreau's speech of a team feeling sorry themselves. The juries are often composed of a bunch of primadonnas who feel sorry for themselves for not winning the game. If they are so down about losing, they should outwork and outplay everyone. It's a game. Quit taking stuff personal. And remember nobody wants someone who feels sorry for themselves.
He didn't won because everyone who voted got outsmarted by Russell and felt stupid. They couldn't look beyond their need for revenge and that's how it ended. He is still the best though.
I wish i watched this season with Russell Hantz! He is hilarious. I watched Survivor from the beginning, then tuned out and i'm watching it again with his Nephew and they talk so much about his uncle. He made it interesting. I love Survivor.

@emekonen yup, and sandra and natalie are probably the worst winners of all time. both of their physical gameplays was terrible, natalie's mental strategy was she didnt have one. russel kept her safe and brought her to the end because she sucked and there was no reason for people to vote for her. sandra's only mental strategy through out the whole game was to get rid of russel, which ofcourse never worked. he brought her for the same reason. both jurys didnt vote for who played best.

@emekonen People play based on emotion sometimes. It is part of the game and no secret. That is why Rob is the best player because he gets people to like him even though he is voting them out. Russel is only good at finding idols. If hidden immunity was not in the game he would not make it far at all. If you notice everyone always wants to vote his ass out, but immunity always saves him.
@BgBuckinChickn I think that Russell only lacks in that area, getting people to like him. Remember when Rob played the first time with hidden idols he was gone quickly. He is very good at manipulating people, Russell just has that untrustworthy look to him.
That Russell says that how many people in history of Survivor found the idol without clues, well,since Redemption Island.. three.. Ralph, Kristina and Russell. But I will admit Russell was the first ever person, but he ain't so great no more though.. and I think they will change the Idol soon.. it's getting.. old.. and powerless, barely anyone is using it and it's barely affecting the game that much.
i loved the part were Dave chased Russel around the jungle to try and stop him from looking for the idol, and Russel lost Dave in the jungle, ran around in a big circle, came back to the wall and grabbed the idol in a few minutes.... so awesome!
No!! I don't think that the audience should have a percentage of the votes because we aren't seeing the whole game. The auidience could be swayed by editing, kind of like how Jane won fan favorite last season.
this was one of the most entertaining seasons in survivor history. it seemed like something crazy happened every episode. you wanted to see what russell would do next, you wanted to see if he could carry his tribe of 4 after the merge - and he did. he absolutely deserved to win. the one flaw of this season is that the best player didn't win.
The first time I just watched 2 or 3 episodes, and I thought Foa Foa members (especially Russell) deserved win, but I was mistaken. Galu tribe won all challenges and of course, one of them had to win, but, for a weird reason, Russel Hantz found 3 hidden idols without any clue. I´m wondering if CBS helped him. That would be a conspiracy.
Eric is a fucking bitch, his speech made no sense whatsoever as well I hope the guy gets his leg broken or some shit for what he does on the Jury cheering on everyone of Russ's moves than going, 'you're a horrible person' like WTF? I liked Russell in Samoa... but in HvV he crossed a line and pissed me off in a big way. I don't care how much control you want over your tribe, you do NOT fuck with machetes. You just don't do that. The reaction I had when he buried that machete was similar to the reaction a religious person would have if he had buried their Bible. Machetes are to be treated with respect. If I was on Survivor in the same season as Russell, the machete wouldn't leave my fucking sight!

I am so sick and tired of hearing people use the phrase "The Game" so loosely. If you want to say "The Game", it needs to include every single aspect of it. The jury vote at the end is the defining aspect, but people choose to conveniently ignore that. Russell is entertaining, no doubt, but to say he is BEST at "The Game" is just absurd. He could be the best at a lot of things, but one thing he is NOT good at is "The Game". It's like dribbling the basketball for long periods without dunking.

@roscorock77 Some of you just don't get it, in the end the jury is what matters. Bitter or not, Jeff say's it at the start of every survivor season "judged by their peers".
While she may not of deserved to win in your mind, she won, and her best move was riding Russell to the end. The fans don't vote, the jury does, thats how survivor works, so as a player you have to put yourself in a position where at the end you'll have number. That's the most important part of the game and Russell fails.
@stevebok Yes the jury IS all that matters, so Natalie won, and O.J. Simpson was sent free...it doesn't mean they got it right though, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't be calling them out for it either. What Russell did was raise the bar for future players. I think we will see many future players voting MUCH differently than this bunch.
@bobnfriends Most players in all seasons of survivor end up voting based on who screwed them over less, sure there are some that voted more on who "deserved" it by making moves and such, but very few.
With that said, If you are continuously screwing people over, deceiving and manipulating people know all well that these same people will decide your fate in the end, are you really playing that good of a game? As Rob and Jeff both stated in Hero's vs villians, Russell wasn't playing to win.

really? cuz on redemption island, it looked like rob "kicked his ass all over the island" and not only rob but a whole tribe of newbies. so "the best" IS with out the title of sole survivor. "the best" WAS outlasted by practically every other person on redemption island, WAS beaten by Sandra (the Queen), and WAS bitter afterwards (what a suprise). and "the best" WILL FOREVER BE without the title of sole survivor because he is too arogant to change his strategy and admit that he is not the best.

@emekonen yup, and sandra and natalie are probably the worst winners of all time. both of their physical gameplays was terrible, natalie's mental strategy was she didnt have one. russel kept her safe and brought her to the end because she sucked and there was no reason for people to vote for her. sandra's only mental strategy through out the whole game was to get rid of russel, which ofcourse never worked. he brought her for the same reason. both jurys didnt vote for who played best.

Rob has a great game, but Russell played like no other and because people personally disliked him he lost to Natalie, of all people. Seriously? She did nothing but ride coat tails. She would not have been there had it not been for Russell who controlled the entire game. Come on man.

@emekonen People play based on emotion sometimes. It is part of the game and no secret. That is why Rob is the best player because he gets people to like him even though he is voting them out. Russel is only good at finding idols. If hidden immunity was not in the game he would not make it far at all. If you notice everyone always wants to vote his ass out, but immunity always saves him.

That Russell says that how many people in history of Survivor found the idol without clues, well,since Redemption Island.. three.. Ralph, Kristina and Russell. But I will admit Russell was the first ever person, but he ain't so great no more though.. and I think they will change the Idol soon.. it's getting.. old.. and powerless, barely anyone is using it and it's barely affecting the game that much.

i loved the part were Dave chased Russel around the jungle to try and stop him from looking for the idol, and Russel lost Dave in the jungle, ran around in a big circle, came back to the wall and grabbed the idol in a few minutes.... so awesome!

this was one of the most entertaining seasons in survivor history. it seemed like something crazy happened every episode. you wanted to see what russell would do next, you wanted to see if he could carry his tribe of 4 after the merge - and he did. he absolutely deserved to win. the one flaw of this season is that the best player didn't win.

The first time I just watched 2 or 3 episodes, and I thought Foa Foa members (especially Russell) deserved win, but I was mistaken. Galu tribe won all challenges and of course, one of them had to win, but, for a weird reason, Russel Hantz found 3 hidden idols without any clue. I´m wondering if CBS helped him. That would be a conspiracy.

I liked Russell in Samoa... but in HvV he crossed a line and pissed me off in a big way. I don't care how much control you want over your tribe, you do NOT fuck with machetes. You just don't do that. The reaction I had when he buried that machete was similar to the reaction a religious person would have if he had buried their Bible. Machetes are to be treated with respect. If I was on Survivor in the same season as Russell, the machete wouldn't leave my fucking sight!

@SamanthaSmartass ...well I did know russell and rob would be on the new season 4 months before the first episode aired right ? as far as being immune untill the merge that was my understanding when i heard 4 months ago.........they were both paid a fee to return around 500k each and the original info was they also had to find a way to garantee there investment in the two and even though officialy they are not emmune my gut fealling is the cast was told privatly there untouchable till the merge

I've watched this video and still stand by my conviction that Natalie deserved to win Samoa. Russell will win 0% of the time, and no jury would ever, nor should ever reward him. I am so sick and tired of hearing people use the phrase "The Game" so loosely. If you want to say "The Game", it needs to include every single aspect of it. The jury vote at the end is the defining aspect, but people choose to conveniently ignore that. Russell is entertaining, no doubt, but to say he is BEST at "The Game" is just absurd. He could be the best at a lot of things, but one thing he is NOT good at is "The Game". It's like dribbling the basketball for long periods without dunking.

@roscorock77 but if you watch what jeff said about russell not understanding the game at the end of the day, jeff said russell can't be the best player if he doesn't understand the game and only plays to get to the end, not win. that was after the HvV Reunion. for Samoa, Natalie used Russell as pet goat because Natalie used Russell to get her to the end and actually win. Depends on your perspective though. But if Natalie did not win then there wouldn't be this perspective.

@roscorock77 Some of you just don't get it, in the end the jury is what matters. Bitter or not, Jeff say's it at the start of every survivor season "judged by their peers".
While she may not of deserved to win in your mind, she won, and her best move was riding Russell to the end. The fans don't vote, the jury does, thats how survivor works, so as a player you have to put yourself in a position where at the end you'll have number. That's the most important part of the game and Russell fails.

Simpson was sent free...it doesn't mean they got it right though, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't be calling them out for it either. What Russell did was raise the bar for future players. I think we will see many future players voting MUCH differently than this bunch.

@bobnfriends Most players in all seasons of survivor end up voting based on who screwed them over less, sure there are some that voted more on who "deserved" it by making moves and such, but very few.
With that said, If you are continuously screwing people over, deceiving and manipulating people know all well that these same people will decide your fate in the end, are you really playing that good of a game? As Rob and Jeff both stated in Hero's vs villians, Russell wasn't playing to win.

The weird thing is that the other tribe had more brainpower on paper. Dave was supposed to be a genius, John is a rocket scientist, and Laura is a pretty sharp cookie herself. And yet Russell embarrassed them all. And I'm glad he did. He may not be as good a person as Dave, but he's for damn sure better than John or Laura.
