Indeed but one thing is for sure, the USSR's administration was equally ruthless murderous than the Third Reich's. It is only because the USSR was on the winning side that it did not have to pay for its crimes (I am notably thinking about the Polish massacre). Overall, extreme politics of the 20th century are all very easy to condemn (and for good reasons) but communism is as bad as fascism for it killed as many innocents.

But correct me if I am wrong: Stalin pretty much set the pace of WW2 for the USSR and since he remained in power until 1953, he had more than all the time in the world to deport millions of innocents (and killing them in gulags which are not very different from Nazi camps).
