the european union is supported by the vast majority of uk citizens and has brought untold prosperity and peace to the uk and all of the european family
i was born and raised in sussex, england and love the eu the idea that we are all one in europe and able to live work travel etc in 27 country's as if they were your own is awe-inspiringly amazing and awesome
@jopeon Mate, you have no evidence what so ever to back up the claim that the "vast majority" of the UK support the EU. Listen to this video, the EU has not brought untold prosperity to the UK. Nice idea but I suggest you get a reality check my friend.
Britain joined the EU to not make a fool out of it self as its colonial era and global influence or the "PAX Britanica "diminished. EEC gave it a chance to remain one of the policymakers in Europe by welcoming it into the Community, now instead of being grateful Britain keeps whining about the undemocratic EU, while the member states are the policy makers in the Union, haven`t thought of that? Swallow your pride or fell free to get out, as Lisbon Treaty now provides a way for you to do it.

@psyqmene No, Britain joined a 'common market' or a free trade block. Thats what the UK wanted and voted for. We were told a lie that it would never be an undemocratic union leading to a united states of europe which would desolve our sovreignty. Most ( 70%+) of Britons want out of the eu and we fight daily to make our leaders give us a referendum. One day it will come but i think the euro crisis will destroy the eu anyway..thank the lord for that !
It's a good idea in theory to heavily redistribute power thorough local referendums and I sympathise with the idea that the EU is elitist and undemocratic. The problem with this dogma is that you turn into California, with very low taxes diminishing the single most effective and proven lever that enables and has enabled social mobility across the world and is exactly what Hannan should try to defend - the state, supported by democracy and elected state. Whatever happened to paternalism?
Good idea. Let's leave the EU and start sucking on USA's balls harder than we ever have before. This is ridiculous, can you imagine if the american states had this argument before joining the american union. Theyd be way more powerfull if all the american states were independant countries, and had their own currencies! I dream of the day we can leave the EU and become the political powerhouse that is Norway!!
How sad that discussion on such an important part of our lives, such as EU membership, is pushed to the sidelines of debate, which is centred on the passion-inducing concepts of 'Europhiles vs Eurosceptics".
What Mr Hannan suggests is not Eurosceptic, at most it's EU-sceptic, while definately being pro-democratic and a pragmatic analysis of the EU and the form of our (British) membership of this grouping.
"Eurosceptic" is just a made-up media term used to describe people regarded as "controversial" by the EU mainstream. Everyone who disagrees with at least one of EU's policies, even if he generally supports EU is deemed as "eurosceptic". I've heard that one member of PES called people who are against Lisbon Treaty "mentally disturbed".
It is a great pity that when we should have an honest, open debate on EU, instead we get a mindless show where only one viewpoint is treated with respect.
We will not be paying £mill for the new offices for tRumpy , with all his staff & trappings of greatness, same for High foreign postion, another level of cost, beurocracy.
A guy arrived at a chain gang asked where do i get some water, the Boss says "we get the water from the tools", the prisoner says what are the tools, boss says "Thats you, drink the sweat from your brow. So the EU gets us to sweat cash to finace their personal elevation
Excellent interview, but the only way i think we will get Westminster tohave honest debate is if Ukip can get enough seats in the election to sway some power.Voting for the LibLabCon elite is not going to bring to get a debate.
Let's put Dan on a full, professional TV debate with the most prominent pro-EU politicians, like Nick Clegg, Caroline Flint or Jo Swinson, and watch him wipe the floor with their anti-democratic, federalist EU agenda.
However, he's in the wrong party and needs to defect to UKIP (who I'll be voting for) very soon indeed.
I believed that the EU would have collapsed under its own weight well before now, alas they are still bleeding us dry. How long I wonder before we reach the tipping point.
Nothing great about an EU debate.... have you watched the video!? Also, your point might carry more weight if you could spell properly. (There's not theris)
I would like to see Britain part of the EU as also consider them to be European.
