The Israelis however will never recognize the Palestinians as equal partners in international affairs, so there is no ground for a peace settlement. I don't think cost is much of an issue for Israel, bankrolled by it's Godfather in the US. As I have already pointed out, the Muslim Arab population of the West Bank and Gaza increased after 1967 (high birth rate, falling death rate). Almost all the Jewish population of Poland was murdered by the Nazis. So the comparison is bogus.
It is correct to say that Gaza has no air defence - so the Israelis have the capacity to wipe out most of the population, but have in fact only targetted terrorists, causing far fewer casualties than the Sri Lankan action against LTTE, for example.

Ireland was able to achieve peace because both sides were able to come together and negotiate a respectful agreement. The Israelis however will never recognize the Palestinians as equal partners in international affairs, so there is no ground for a peace settlement. It is because Israel doesn't want it, despite the propaganda they put out. They would rather bomb the Palestinians into submission than compromise.

Actually the British gov't negotiated with the IRA before they (the IRA) renounced violence - if they had not done this then the peace process would have got nowhere. Israel never kept to international agreements, whilst disempowering Arafat, helping Hamas' rise to power.

Yes, the Palestinians continued to negotiate, despite the grand theft of their land under the world's noses, and the accompanying violence (which has killed God knows how many Palestinians for each Israeli death). Israel did not "give up" Gaza, it transferred it's settlers to the better land of the West Bank, whilst encircling Gaza, making it a giant prison, whose inhabitants are occasionally treated to the latest US military hardware and accompanying death and destruction. Just as predicted, the Palestinians immediately renigged on their pledge to renounce violence and voted in Hamas and the weapons started flowing in. They made bombs out of people. I don't think cost is much of an issue for Israel, bankrolled by it's Godfather in the US. They voted in Hamas because they saw what little Fatah was able to achieve, undermined as they were by the Israelis and Americans, whilst the annexation of the West Bank continued, and "targeted killings" of Palestinians in Gaza (plus the odd family on a beach etc.).
Previously, Israel had encouraged Hamas, to undermine the PLO. Israel always undermines any push for acceptable peace in international law.

Israel made a massive deal out of it, ensuring maximum propaganda points, when all they had to do was withdraw their army and the settlers would soon have left. Instead they have helped the settlers encroach further into what little remains of the West Bank whilst still effectively occupying Gaza, in that it is under complete Israeli military control - they don't even allow children's toys to enter.

Both statements are emotional BS. I will give you that Hamas is at war with Israel, and many Palestinians have died, but the other stuff you say is BS.
You may hate Israel and the Israelis, but if you don't recognize their right to exist, which Hamas does not, then you must be at war with Israel. So what right do you have to complain when you are holding the weapons?

Why the hell should Hamas recognise Israel's "right to exist"? Israel exists. Hamas accept Israel's existence on 1967 borders as recognised by all the world (except USA, Israel, and Micronesia).
I do not hate the Israelis by the way, but I ask why do they not recognise Palestine's right to exist? Why does USA fund this illegally-armed nuclear terror state?

Israel doesn't just recognize Palestine's right to exist, it stated so openly and gave up the land to them that they won fair and square in 67 when Palestine declared war on them.
Hamas didn't exist in 67 so there is another lie. Hamas states in their own version of a declaration that they will not stop until Israel is gone. Look it up.

I never said Hamas existed in 1967 so there isn't "another lie".
All the world recognises 1967 borders (UN 242) as best solution apart from Israel, US and a few satellite states or insignificant islands.
Regardless of the Hamas charter you refer to, they have since accepted peace as per UN242.

Hamas considers Israel a "Zionist Entity" as per their website today (الكيان الصهيوني), and as stated will never recognize it. They offer them temporary truth ("Al Hundah") for 10 years in exchange for Palestinian statehood with Hamas in charge. Seriously though, if you do not know what you are talking about, why do you need to make a comment as though it is a fact?

Israel IS a "Zionist entity". Why should Hamas recognise it unless it adheres to UN resolution 242, broadly speaking the basis of the 10-year truce offered. Surely this is the way towards justice and peace.
Israel have plans to take all of the land they consider historically Israel, these plans are just as crazy as the Hamas charter, if not moreso, because they actively pursue those aims, stealing more of the West Bank, whilst destroying Gaza through killings and blockades - read Ilan Pappe.
