I Dont know, At 4:40 - 4:50 That sounds like shit! I know Its not the guitar, The guitar is amazing! It must be the amp or the way the player has it set. Sound too thick and muffled. Theres no life to that, sounds kinda dead. Its a Horrible tone to me. I dont know why the player has it set like that, dude is wack.
the only thing I hate about Gibsons are that they are all made with such fat 50s profile necks it bothers me so much that they are barely doing super thin necks like they did in the 60s and 70s
I've been playing for 30 years and I bought a 2008 LP Standard - my worse guitar! It has the tapered plec'd neck, which is no big deal. It won't stay in tune for more than 10 seconds! I've changed the tuners twice, the nut three times, tried .011's, have had five set-ups and minor adjustments and it will not stay in tune. I wrote to Gibson when I first bought it and they told me to call my local service center and they can't get it right either! Mine cost $2,000 VOS $5k! Keep it.
@gman8thst i bought a studio for 900 bucks and it's perfect stays in tune for weeks plays like a fuck and looks amazing. don't blame Gibson only because i've been ripped off!! If after 30 years of playing you still aren't good to play and check a guitar before buying it, well that's your problem. Anyway I never had problems with my Gibbys, and my 1960 VOS Paul is the best guitar that i've ever played. Gibson USA guitars are amazing, but the Custo Shop ones are simply pure art.
Why are people still arguing Gibson vs Fender. They both have different design philosophies. Gibson: Handcrafted, Fender: Mass produced. Both are good in their own way. A Gibson will always sound like a Gibson and a Fender will always sound like a Fender. Different strokes for . . . you know the rest.
@shotgunsteve93 Pff. Gibsons is Mass produced to. Fender are "Handcrafted" in the custom shop or the old 1960 or something. Gibsons "customs" are handcrafted. Yea, but the standards or the studios is. Yes my friend, mass produced.
Lol...Or you can just buy a Vintage (The guitar company) les paul and save you alot of bucks.. Seriously i love Gibson, i got 2 les pauls but Vintage makes better Les Pauls than Gibson does now, and the reissues aint half as good as a vintage gibson. Or a Vintage Les Paul..
@zbarneyz I love my Vintage, (The guitar company) guitar, but I'd seriously love to own a Gibson Custom, a black Custom that the guy keeps playing in the video. It's partly the name that makes you buy one though :p
Pop Expo- I think that so many players end with Strats becuase the started out with them due to the affordability factor. I own both Strats and Les Pauls and while I like both the Fenders simply don't compare to the Gibsons. LP's are very versatile-they span the sound gamut from jazz to hard rock to metal quite well, whereas Strats, well they sound like Strats.
@iztech101 funny i started out on my uncle's Les Paul. when i found MY sound, a gibson didn't compare to what a strat can do. sorry I strongly disagree with you.
The Mike Bloomfield Les Paul is without a doubt, the best guitar I have ever played in my life. The tone is great and the feel of it is out of this world. Plus, the color is exactly what I would imagine a '59 Les Paul would look like - it truly is a masterpiece. However, the price tag is too far out of my reach. But, if you are rich and want the best, Gibson can make it as good as the originals. I don't know what they do to them to get that little extra "mojo" feel out of it.
My step dad actuly works at the Gibson Custom shop in Nashville Tennessee. Its actuly pretty cool! He brings in all kinds of pictures. Him and one other person got hired when over 5000 people put in application within 3 weeks. he started out rubbing somethin on the guitar and wipeing it off with alot of pressure with a rag now he talks about how he chizzles the neck bit by bit to get it percise. he alo talks about how thir is a secret room where they make aged Randy R. guitars.

GetOverit 1213... the reason those dudes used the strat is because it obviously has a bit more versatility than a les paul. A vibrato system, Three pickups, 3 or five way switching, incredible clean tone, and ease of customizing and modifying it. you can basically can do anything with a strat, even put humbuckers in it. I see more (pro) players using a Fender than a GIbson, and they all make it sound their own. the majority of les paul players i've seen ( not all) all play that heavy gain shit.
Also Seth Lovers Humbuckers he made for fender couldn't be any more different from the ones he made for Gibson. Cuknife magnets, Pole pieces are in a spit array. .... Uh yeah my point is valid because jimi, believe it or not, also used a clean tone on his records. Also my strat rules all other guitars even these overrated pieces of shit in this video.
i just dont understand why some other guitarists like SRV malmstein Vai, Satriani, Van Halen, and Clapton didn't use the gibsons cuz they really are the best. Is it because each of those guitarists need their "sound" or what..? All i know is that gibson is the best guitar making company in the world.
form without substance: what are the original vintage specs? e.g., what was the neck radius in 59? do the reissues match?,Neck Shape, woods, neck attachment? It will take more than a pretty voice and vague comments to convince me to invest in a reissue.
this dude talking sounds like a douche. its a piece of wood its what your make of it. Jimi mainly rocked shity CBS strats. Doesn't matter how fancy the guitar is if you suck at guitar you suck. don't let this advertisement get to you. spend your money on a education.
If I were to play a vintage / VOS guitar, it'd be a 1960 les paul because it has a thinner neck that's more comfortable to me, but if i were to get one for historical value, it'd b a 1959
That guitar he's playing on 1:17 ... does anyone know where im able to get one? its my dream guitar and i was like "Whooaahh!!" when i saw him play it. its the exact guitar i want, and ive been begging my parents to get me one.
haha yeah but ive been keeping promise to everything they asked for. getting perfect grades so far, doing whatever they need. Its not that im poor or anything, im pretty ballin.
'57 VOS Goldtop... that sums it up for me. Absolutely stunning instruments. Sounds good, plays good and looks exactly what Gibson Les Paul Goldtop (with humbuckers) should look.
couldnt they have gotten a better guitarist t demonstrate the guitar? not saying this guy is bad or anything but i wanna hear some gnarley licks not this noodling foolery.
Gibsons VOS guitars are on par with PRS guitars nowadays although still not as consistent. I have a PRS McCarty and it really can't touch a good VOS Les Paul as far as tone goes. The PRS just doesn't have the mojo of a good gibson it dreams of being. PRS makes nice furniture IMO.
Well its kinda weird. I feel that PRS guitars are too perfect looking. They a really thick shiny polyurethane finish that prevents the guitar from resonating well naturally. They have a lip around the body of the guitar thats uncomfortable and entirely for aesthetic purposes. They have hot pickups that are potted way to much so they are smooth and can take an ass load of distortion but they lack the character of a good vintage pickup.
PRS lit a fire under Gibson's sloppy, low quality pieces of inferior shit. Given that PRS offers a truely quality guitar, set up properly at the factory for 2K, Gibson should be ashamed at what they produced from 1960 until today. It costs about 8K to get a really well built "custom" guitar from Gibson and it STILL is NOT comparable to what they produced in the 1950's. How sad.
i completely disagree. PRS are some fine pieces of wood with some incredible tone, but you gotta be a les paul player to like les pauls. dont talk shit.
7:21 of AWSOMENESS!!!!!! I love Gibson! I bought a Gibson SG Platinum special last week! Pretty awsome. I wanted a Les Paul but couldn't afford it. :( but i got an SG :D
I've had 3 PRS guitars...all beautiful players wonderfully made, and every one of them sounded like a toy next to my new 57 Goldtop. It just made them all sound like they were broken;)
all the nice video and stuff but inform us about the price...mmmm would be a bit less Convincing ...but anyway still a nice dream and a fabulous guitar !!someday!!

'57 VOS Goldtop... that sums it up for me. Absolutely stunning instruments. Sounds good, plays good and looks exactly what Gibson Les Paul Goldtop (with humbuckers) should look.

Les Paul Gold top with P-90's through a vox AC30....even better.

Gibsons VOS guitars are on par with PRS guitars nowadays although still not as consistent. I have a PRS McCarty and it really can't touch a good VOS Les Paul as far as tone goes. The PRS just doesn't have the mojo of a good gibson it dreams of being. PRS makes nice furniture IMO.

prs are overated man
chrisiztheman1618 2 years ago
Well its kinda weird. I feel that PRS guitars are too perfect looking. They a really thick shiny polyurethane finish that prevents the guitar from resonating well naturally. They have a lip around the body of the guitar thats uncomfortable and entirely for aesthetic purposes. They have hot pickups that are potted way to much so they are smooth and can take an ass load of distortion but they lack the character of a good vintage pickup.

I own a reissued 1960 Sunburst colored Arch top Standard Les Paul with Burstbuckers in it...It rocks and plays clean amazingly...
I own a shredder guitar with EMG 81 and it destroys ears when turned up at full volumes...
Another fairly priced quality built to custom specifications guitar company is Carvin.

Plenty of great guitars out there. My custom shop Les Paul is a great guitar but, not my favorite.

How sad.
RedRoo13 3 years ago
i completely disagree. PRS are some fine pieces of wood with some incredible tone, but you gotta be a les paul player to like les pauls. dont talk shit.

quality of gibsons is not as people think, i would rather get a prs over gibson, had a prs excellent guitar but i had to sell it for collings

Shouldn't they all be original specs. So we pay $2000.00 and up more for VOS and $1000.-2,999.000 for crap. Okay.

Ha, play an Ibanez, then play a gibson.

The Historic series is just ridiculously good.
I've had 3 PRS guitars...all beautiful players wonderfully made, and every one of them sounded like a toy next to my new 57 Goldtop. It just made them all sound like they were broken;)
