Don't be afraid to push that button.....;)

  • Technically Speaking, it"s not a Hot Refuel, it"s a Rotors Running Refuel.

A Hot Refuel is where the Engines are Running but the Rotors are not Engaged.

And before i get Flamed, Yes i am a Refueller that does Hot Refuels Daily although Rotors Running Refuels are not allowed under normal conditions at our Airport.

As mentioned, the Rules are very Strict.

  • @MADTASS Thanks for that info. I'll email my son, Dominic and let him know.

    Best wishes

    Roy

  • @MADTASS Technically speaking? From a bowser dolly? Stick to being told how much gas to pump at your airport. It has to be a hot refuel to be a 'rotors running refuel'...

  • @rokape77 As stated Previous, Hot Refuel = Engines Running Rotors not Engaged. Rotors Running = Engines Running Rotors Engaged.

Obviously the Engines have to be Running for the Rotors to be Turning but you have to have a Distinction between the two. If one of our Customers, namely Agusta Engaged there Rotors after having Requested a Hot Refuel i"d want to know why, the only time we are allowed to Fuel Rotors Running is the Emergency Services.

  • @MADTASS

Uuuh..There is no "Rotors are not engaged" on a turbine helicopter..From start up to shut down the rotors are always turning. What are you talking about?

  • @motokid032 Then your doing a Rotors Running Refuel. The Merlins and Lynx Helicopters i Refuel will have an Engine Running but Rotors not Turning, and as such is Classed as a Hot Refuel, the S-61 which we will doing later this year Require Rotors Running Refuel, we thus have to have Extra Training to do this. I think it"s down to Interpretation at the End of the Day.

  • This video was taken somewhere near Woodford, Queensland. VH is an Australian prefix.

  • I noticed it was an VH reg where did you guys film that vid.

  • Haha Gotta love it refuilng a heli that is running...if its a jet engine the exhaust is right above where you refuel so all the fumes excaping from the tank go right up in the exhuast...

  • Everyone a critic. you guys probably dont even fly

  • no bonding cable?

  • i know! it could go booooooooooommmm

  • Hey your re-ignition is on...no good for the igniter dude !!!!

  • Yeah, press that button.

  • the FAA's rules on helicopter hot refuels are very strict. it's amazing how safe you have to be around these gentle birds
