My mom played this song to death as a kid.. I know it by heart.. My ucle Doug worked with you on The badger or maybe it was the Midland.. that parts a little fuzzy.. But great song anyway
@griffisdenny Your uncle Bob worked on the badger too, With Pete at that, I just talked to Dad and he brought up a lot of memories of Pete and everyone else they worked with on the boats.
Do you have the flip side of this???? I sure have grand memories of you all.....great growing up years. Pete/Joyce, I remember you fondly and send my love. Thanks so much for sharing this music. The years just peal away.
THANK YOU!!!!! Oh the memories! I love this song. you know, my biological father worked on this BADGER in 1968. I still have his ID card....Daniel Bussell. thanks you guys! I sure love you.
I can only imagine how difficult a life the crew of the carferries had. This song is a wonderful, heartfelt ballad about a chapter of history Lake Michigan will most likely never see again. From the memories of someone who loved watching the Badger and the Spartan as a child, they were the most beautiful ships ever. Please know that your hard work brought many of us so much happiness. We thank you for all you did. May God bless the Badger and all who sail on her.
cleaned this up a little as I remember but sure good to hear again I had a first run of the 45 will always remember the reverbaration station and your radio room up stairs in your house
I worked for the carferries in the 70s through the mid 80s when they were sold to MWT. This song brings back a lot of memories! I really enjoyed listening to it!
@simplyDiann Thank you Glad you enjoyed my song. Oh yes the memories some good and some bad. We live in Jacksonville Fl. and We have cruise ships here, I went once, brought back the bad memories.
I currently work in the Engine room on the Badger as an Oiler. That song sums it up pretty good. Now we work all seasson straight though. 7 days a week 4hrs on 8hrs off all summer.
I worked on all seven boats, the 31 and 43 were my faverites. My Father, brothers Richard ,John and my uncle Steve was the perser on the Badger till his death. and his sons Levone and little Steve all work on her, She was a great ship then and still is today. My annt sent me a copy of that song years ago I think I still have it somewere. Thanks for the memories.
Wow I would have never thought I would ever hear this song again. I brings back alot of memories as kid (almost 40 yrs ago)My parents had the 45...dont know what was on the other side, I still remember the words...who wrote it it? and when? how does anyone know howmany were sold?
It's been a lot of years, but I used to wake up ta this song every morning when I lived with John VanBrocklin. He worked on both the 41 and the 43. You probably don't remember me, but I met ya a couple times thru John. I'm Aaron Smith.
How can I git a copy of this song (even on a 45) I miss hearin it all the time and really like it!
Hey! Haven't heard this is a LONG time. I remember you singing this at Alan's birthday party for us kids right after you wrote it. Are you still in the area
Which car ferry is the "43" ? I like your pictures. The brought back happy memories of summer in Ludington in the early 1950's. There was a lot of train and ship action down at the docks back then. The Marine supt. Ted Winkel was very nice to us and let me and my friend go all through the ships and the shops including a hearty meal with the crew. We climbed inside the jacketing of the funnel, boy was it hot! I was wringing wet and stepped outside a door onto the deck and nearly "froze".
The 43 is the Badger 1 of the 7 ships in the, (at that time) the worlds largest fresh water car farry fleet in the world. I was a deck hand when I wrote and recorded this song in 1967
I remember when Pete wrote this. Wish I had half his talent. I worked on all these boats. except the 32 which was in the mud and being stripped of parts to keep the 31 running. Good work bunk mate. Your old friend, Doug Clark
Could you please upload the flipside (Listen my son)

Wow! I still have your 45 rpm record.
My Dad was an engineer until his death.
My Uncle worked in the shop.
A neighbor became captain.
Thank you very much for sharing your song.
I'm not sure how many copies my Dad had bought or brought home. I think I have another 45 rpm too.
