  • Who is Bobby Caldwell? Now you know! Incredible drummer!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The one great drummer who hardly gets any sort of credit in rock music

  • Johnny Winter And,..Live, some of the best I've heard! And the original Armageddon Captian Beyond! Talent extrodinaire!

  • Stadium Rock?... Captain Beyond? um...no

  • One of the best!

  • amazing drummer !!!!

  • Magnificent talent still waiting for a lucky break. God bless you Bobby C.

  • absolutely the most underrated drummer in rock history! he's as good as anyone who's ever played!

  • Killer drummer. Captain Beyond was a killer band.

  • Bobby is a thinking drummer, using unusual time signatures, and actually not unlike Neil Peart, creating the backbone for the music to dance on.

Always enticing and original, never stock 4/4,

A real musician,in it for the music!

  • I caught Bobby playing live with Johnny Winter circa '68.

    Tight...explosive...musical.

  • @Easleytee

No, you didn't. Johnny's drummer was "Uncle" John Turner in '68. He started playing with Bobby Caldwell in 1970 or '71, when Caldwell joined Johnny Winter And.

  • should be rated in with john bonham, dennis chambers, mitch mitcheal, billy cobbham at the very top rank of the best drummers that ever lived, myself an ex-drummer knows another drummer paul spivy, that says he goes to same workout gym as bobby caldwell.he told me besides his legendary status,he's one of the nicest guys youd ever want to meet!!!idol, icon,.good lord what a resume,.;'';.,hoop

  • It's from Rick Derringer's All American Boy. I forget the title. :)

  • Somebody knows which is the first song? It's amazing. Thanks

  • @jandrorh The song is called, Joy Ride off of Rick Derringer's, All American boy album

  • Great stuff !!!

  • I noticed that one of the Captian Beyond albums is dedicated to Toy Caldwell. Was Bobby related?

  • I saw Bobby Caldwell with Captain Beyond many years ago.

Seriously he was one of the best ever live drummers i have ever seen.

    Seriously underated!

Nice guy as well I had a chat with him after the show.

All three Captain Beyond albums are great in their own right!

Oh and that Armegeddon album from 1975 ain't half bad either! :)

    Simon

  • @Notocyp Funny, I also met Bobby after a Captain Beyond gig. He was very approachable, modest and really nice guy to talk to. I was just a teenager at the time, but he didn't talk down to me, which says a lot about his character.

  • one of the best rock drummers ever...!!! so powerful and fast...His best performance: 'Captain Beyond' first album...

  • I met Bobby in Orlando about 10 years ago.

  • Oh yes! Thats the guy who really hypnotised me alongside with Johnny Winter.

  • Ok, first things first, the man called Bobby Caldwell to the right of all of these video clips is not to be confused with the drummer Bobby Caldwell. They are NOT one/in the same at all. One has a solo act and stands and sings, the other is a bat-outta-hell percussionist, bar-none. I highly suggest you get everything that he has played on, including Caption Beyond and Johnny Winter And, also Armegeddon. Satisfaction will be guaranteed, no 'doubt.

  • The 1975 album by Armageddon is a must hear. Bobby tears it up.

  • wow this guy is no joke

  • Nice job. Very well done indeed.

  • Since I was 13. In 1970. That's how long Bobby Caldwell has been blowing my mind. Thanks for posting this. I didn't know he played with the Allmans. How cool.

  • Phenomenal drummer. Johnny Winter And Live is a great CD. But really love Bobby with Captain Beyond. Thanks for posting.

  • is that bc @ 2:57? that pic of bc w/ duane! betcha bc wouldnt part w/ the neg for a million bucks

watched the dude from not more than 10ft away side of the stage at a funky roadhouse when daffern fronted cb he had 'macaroni shell' drums

also proud to say that was the 2nd time - id seen them open for quicksilver messnger service but im not it was bc on drums evans was singing tho and only 4 guys on stage (we def went to see cb not qms no offense)

    thnx for the tube

  • Does he need a bass player that knows ALL his work, can sing and engineer?....I'm on it.

Pen me in. What a player. What a player.

  • Reminds me of Matt Batchelor of Vicious Violet so young and ahead of his time

  • one of the best!

  • Oh, wow! Well, I should point out that Bobby is not just a drummer. He writes, composes, and sings, as well. You should definitely check out Captain Beyond's debut album Captain Beyond. Also, Armageddon with Keith Relf in the 70s and Johnny Winter And! Live. All phenomenal. Captain Beyond's third album, Dawn Explosion, is also very good.

  • @impulseucf

You're one of the few, besides myself, that seems to like that 3rd album, Dawn Eplosion doesn't get as much respect as it deserves. Just because they had a different singer, the original spirit was still there!!

  • I love drums and know quite a lot of drummers, at least their names and I have never ever heard of Bobby Caldwell! What I hear on this videa is quite impressive indeed. Will check him out. Any suggestions?

  • @LosKarizma Johnny Winter And Live-unbelievable!

  • @LosKarizma check out the stuff from captain beyonds self titled album like dancing madly backwards, can't feel nothing

  • were is he now just love to watch him play

  • Killer drummer and a great guy. And anyone who was friends with Duane Allman is waaaay cool in my book!

  • Who is Bobby Caldwell? The best drummer going ever. Phenomenal drummer. Thanks for posting this. I love him with Captain Beyond.

  • Bonby has a swing totally commited to the open jazzplaying. But he rocks. Listen to his fills. It's so fluid. Like birds.

  • Great Drummer. Bobby was the American IAN Paice

  • isnt bobby caldwell a jazz/R&B musician?

  • That's a common mistake = no relation.

No, there's another Bobby Caldwell who's a singer does light jazz.

  • I"ve known Bobby Caldwell since the Noah Ark days, they plalyed on the Cocoa Beach Pier ofter and I remember the Battle of the Bands in Orlando. He was a great drummer and a very sweet person, great friend and professional. A great person to know. Tabby Jordan Ellis, Cocoa, Fl

  • I'm confused, your profile sez you're "18".

How could you of "known" Bobby at that point in time : P

  • @emopunk2244

noahs ark with buddy richardson ya ya

  • I saw Bobby Caldwell, Buddy Richardson(white witch),some bass player that played an 8 string custom...

    Called...Noah's Ark.

Valdosta City Auditorium had to be 69-70

    About 4 marshalls each.

    I was maybe 12...

I blame them for what followed :)

    Bobby was brilliant

    Buddy was brilliant

  • I was a young kid when I saw Bobby play with Johnny Winter and He blew me away!!!

  • Really nice tribute to a very deserving talent.

  • Hey G! What are you doing Here? Lol....

I just sent you a track from Bobby's Old Group Armageddon. And here you are hangin' out-A Month ago! I'm hot on your trail, Peace.

  • Well we like the same stuff : D

I've collected everything Bobby's appeared on for yrs.

First heard him on the Johnny Winter And - Live album and went from there.

There's some great vintage Captain beyond live footage on here too.

  • Simply one of the best all time!

  • I am a big fan of BC and I would put him up there with what the media sugar coated as the best. BC has a signature style..He should of been the replacement for Keith Moon.

  • Agreed, or John Bonham's replacement.

There's NOTHING Bonham could do that Caldwell can't/couldn't.

  • Bobby is in my opinion possibly the greatest drummer ever! I used to listen to him when he was only 14 and was blown away. We knew that if Bobby Caldwell was playing somewhere we were in for an amazing experience! No other drummer ever came close to him and I did see some phenominal back in the day!! Yvonne

  • I was lucky enough to see Bobby perform with Rick Derringer. Auditorium Theater in Chicago. I had fantastic 2nd row seats. That's when you could sit an enjoy the music. I think Montrose played that night, and Edgar Winter Band, too.

I had both Captain Beyond LPs, and loved them both. Glad I married a hot young guitar god later in my life. i can still rock.

  • who did you marry?

  • Yes,back in 1978 when i was hanging out after the "ButchTrucks" Concert with "Bro.Butch" & Band we were smoking (well.you know)& i brought up "Bobby Caldwell" & Bro.Butch was "AlmondBrother'sBand" drummer, too and Brother Butch told us that "Bobby" was one of the Best Drummers he has / or ever worked with cause of his "Impeccable Time"!!!Yes, i agree & please pass that "Joint" back this way, will ya??Ha!!!Those were really the Coolest days to be alive & playing that "Macon,Ga." Sound/Vibe!!!!

  • It´s very unfair , He es one of the most underrated drummers , and an

    amazing drummer ¡¡¡¡

  • Whats the name of the first song on this video?

Really nice drummer, Captain Beyond album is just amazing.

  • The first two songs are off of Rick Derringer's All American Boy. Song 1 is Time Warp and Song 2 is Joy Ride.

  • amazing drummer, he's done historical drums work with johnny Winter and Rick Derringer...still hoping to see him playing one day.

Thanx a lot for that portrait.

  • Comment removed

  • i 1st heard him either on the JW And Live Lp or Rick D's solo LP. Got Captain Beyond LP's when they came out. (Don't confuse him with soul singer Bobby Caldwell! He's not the same guy!)

  • i first saw him play with captain beyond not in real life just on youtube but i gotta saw he totally blew my mind

  • Best American drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video - Monster player

  • One of the best drummers in Rock. I loved him with Johnny Winter And

  • Stellar job! Caldwell has always been one of my absolute favorites...great finesse, incredible touch, and an awesome time-keeper!

  • most underrate drummer

  • I watch him as a teenager always wonder whrer he went still love to watch him play

  • Hey, that was neat - are you a friend of BC? We wrote a few tunes together in the mid 80's; The pics with the bleached hair look like they're from around that time. Haven't seen him in 25 years. Heard he was back in FL now. Cool video, especially the old pics. Cheers.
