i always viewed this in my head as william rushing in, and he and the rake duel (the guitar riffs at the beginning). the rake bests william, is moving in for the kill, and suddenly the room gets all foggy and the specters of his dead children (and wife, maybe) appear and start haunting the hell out of him. whether they kill him or drive him insane, i don't know, but it's always an amazing image. the children vocals in this are perfectly done.
@salmonblox I always viewed the Rake as just another side of William. After his lust is sated he realizes this wasn't the life he wanted and he kinda goes dipshit.
This song is genius. There is one or two children in this chorus that is just ever so slightly off key, creating a creepy, offputting sound, but it seems intentionally sung that way. Brilliant.
@Trizm11Trap890 I personally disagree with this interpretation becasue the 2nd child sings that she has "regained" her breath, suggesting life in the traditional sense.
I see your point and shouldn't have written my comment in a factual manner, but why choose then to "reanimate" and torment your father? It's a particularly opportune time, and is slightly questionable in that matter. Also, another interpretation of your exemplary lyric, "Father here in death, i have regained my breath", is that she IS in fact dead and moved on, and wherever she is now, she's able to breathe and speak.
@Trizm11Trap890 my interpretation is that the events occur such that the children torment the father BEFORE William arrives and kills the Rake. This makes the most logical sense because there is no mention of William until AFTER this song- and it seems like too much of a stretch for me to believe William somehow killed him, we get this scene, THEN we hear about william- usually characters are introduced before their actions occur, as in the Rake song.
Oh,jeez.I have a mental image of a creepy zombie girl singing as I listen to this *shiver* Thats the reason I love this album though! It manages to bring you into the world of the story so easily :D
There's something about children singing that has always creeped me out. But there's something different here. Everything sounds just SLIGHTLY, MINUTELY out of tune, and it adds to the creepy/dead-ness of it all. It gives me the creeps. And yet I'm happy that The Rake finally got what he deserved.
@LostHeroXIII Listen to the earlier song on this album, titled...well "The Rake's Song". The Rake married a woman simply due to his lust and was horrified as soon as she produced his children so he systematically murdered them. "The Hazards Of Love 3 (Revenge!)" is what this is known as.
everytime i hear eziah's revenge part i imagine him slwoly walking towards the Rake with like his bones snapping and popping and that that's what the drum parts are in his scene 2:14 - 3:18
its the 2 (or 3...pretty sure its two) new girl singers along with the original...cant think of there names off the top of my head for some reason, but they make the song sweet xD
WOW I was sent here by Frank Iero (MCR) and I am just floored! Why havent I ever heard of these guys before????? Im totally putting this on my to-get list!

I don't think the Rake is killed, but driven off and pursued by his dead children's ghosts, while William comes in and rescues Margaret.

william actually kills the rake when he finds him w/ margaret. this is him with his children in the afterlife.

@Trizm11Trap890 I also think that, as alluded to in the Rake's song, haunting implies that the one being haunted is alive
