Bullmastiff haters?? Is that another word for ignoramus? We had a bullmastiff, swear to God, also named SOFIE, and I would trust her with a newborn baby. If you come across an ill tempered mastiff/bullmastiff it either was a) poor breeding or b) poor treatment by a human. I have NEVER met a vicious bullmastiff. My Sofie only growled at ONE person in her entire life and that was a man walking towards us at dusk. My children would crawl over and take things from her mouth, never a sound.
@SKMick60 You're exacty right in what you say about their temperment. Our Bullmastiff saved our son's life when he was 2 yo--and was gentle as a lamb with him. GREAT dogs when raised/treated correctly!

@rombo1982 I have a perfect example to prove your point. My bull mastiff, Tessy, was owned by another person until she was about 5, she was neglected and the shelter was going to put her down her health was so bad. When my dad met her at the shelter, she almost gave him a heart attack because her bark was so loud. However my dad continued to care for her and eventually asked the shelter if he could take her home for the weekend. Continued next post.
@Josh000626 We kept her for longer though and a month later the vet was amazed at how she had improved. She is now about 7 and is one of the sweetest dogs in the world. She is easily excited by loud noises (due to being hit by a car) and is afraid of anything that isn't alive (screen doors included). You do however have to be careful if you put your face close to hers or else she will snipe a kiss and doesn't care if she gets your mouth.
I just want all bullmastiff haters to know sweet Sophie saved and protected a baby bird that fell from its nest in the back yard, I found her out there licking it and she would not leave it until I put it back in the nest.

That is good... I have a Rottweiler/Bullmastiff mix but she is only 2 and already has hip dysplacia (which we are managing)... otherwise she is healthy and will hopefully stay that way. My last purebreed bullmastiff lived to 7, but my two Dogue de Bordeaux died at about 4 and 3 respectively. It's not fair that the pure breeds die so young.
Died at 4 and 3, goddam that sucks. I knew dogues had a short life span like bullmastiffs, but that is crazy short. Any particular cause to thier untimely passing? Sorry.
The one that died at 3 had Lymphoma cancer which is quite common in large dogs but rare at that age (the bullmastiff had that too). The other had pancreatitis. I have not had good luck at all with dogues but I would still like another one.
The reason dogs are dieing is simple but overlooked. 99% of grocery store dog and cat food is poison. It will take a healthy dog and destroy its immunity in a few short years. I now make my dogs food and they are healthier, happier, and have a great coat. Please educate anyone owning a pet about this fact. Thanks!
I adopted my mastiff mix from the South Los Angeles shelter when he was approximately 6 months old. Introduced him to my Pit Bull(also adopted from South LA) and they get along great. Took both dogs to training classes at Petsmart and my Mastiff, "Pork Chop" learned and retained less than my pit; however, my mastiff listens better than my pit and obeys his commands and is not as stubborn as my Pit.
whenever I lay down, my boy HAS to rest his head between my neck and jaw... no matter how much I wiggle and try to get him to lay some other way, he insist on sleeping that way. Its cute as all hell but I swear with him being at 210lbs (half bull mastiff, half great dane) he chokes me with just his head.
Mine is just over a year old. MY GOD! Puppy hood was tough going with her! I've had puppies before and non was slow to learn stuff. I actually thought i'd bought retarded dog at times! Honestly, you need an abundance of patience and you need to be fair, not just assertive with discipline. Too hard they won't listen. Too soft they won't listen. But, to my amazement this last 2 months she's flourished. She's calm, affectionate, very caring of our other dogs, gentle - just wonderful.
I regretted buying our male until the age of 2 years... so much hard work it is impossible to explain... i'd say left, he'd go right etc etc... from 2 1/2 onwards he has been the best the most loyal and fun animal you could wish for.... the males are real slow in maturing. He started getting lonely do we got him a bitch for company.... she is so sweet it is hard to explain... leave the room for a minute, come back, and she will start wagging her tail and come and greet you. fantastic breed.
Oh, and not only patience in abundance, but a strict understanding between you ad your partner on rules.... give them one slight sign of difference in discipline and they can be heaven for one person and hell for the next.... granted though puppyhood is rough experience with them!
lol, we used to (semi) joke that our dog nust have been starved of oxygen at birth!! They are so stupid at times.... but are they? they are masters of manipulation!
TO: Kayla7568. Good Quality Akc and Aka papered Bullmastiffs run about 12- 14 hundred for males and 13-15hundred for females. make sure you do your homework. They need lotsa love and discipline. they're a handful growing up but mature beautifully. many do tend to have very short lifespans and are very prone to crippling arthritis and premature death caused by cancer. they're a great big breed that can love a lot in their short years.

My bullmastiff is 153 pounds at 20 months, I assumed he was a cross but have been assured he's not a mix by a couple of breeders. One did tell me he was a boerboel though which did his credibillity no favours as ben has a red coat.

@monkeycuddle oh god! im so so sorry. believe me, youll get to a point where memories will simply make you smile and not cry... i rescued a bull mastiff last week and he leaves in the morning for the new home ive found for him..ive been sobbing all day. they make such an amazing impact on your life...

My Bullmastiff is 6 weeks old and I'm not sure how much he weighs, but I know he's gonna get HUGE in a couple of months.

That is good... I have a Rottweiler/Bullmastiff mix but she is only 2 and already has hip dysplacia (which we are managing)... otherwise she is healthy and will hopefully stay that way. My last purebreed bullmastiff lived to 7, but my two Dogue de Bordeaux died at about 4 and 3 respectively. It's not fair that the pure breeds die so young.

The one that died at 3 had Lymphoma cancer which is quite common in large dogs but rare at that age (the bullmastiff had that too). The other had pancreatitis. I have not had good luck at all with dogues but I would still like another one.

The reason dogs are dieing is simple but overlooked. 99% of grocery store dog and cat food is poison. It will take a healthy dog and destroy its immunity in a few short years. I now make my dogs food and they are healthier, happier, and have a great coat. Please educate anyone owning a pet about this fact. Thanks!

I adopted my mastiff mix from the South Los Angeles shelter when he was approximately 6 months old. Introduced him to my Pit Bull(also adopted from South LA) and they get along great. Took both dogs to training classes at Petsmart and my Mastiff, "Pork Chop" learned and retained less than my pit; however, my mastiff listens better than my pit and obeys his commands and is not as stubborn as my Pit.

whenever I lay down, my boy HAS to rest his head between my neck and jaw... no matter how much I wiggle and try to get him to lay some other way, he insist on sleeping that way. Its cute as all hell but I swear with him being at 210lbs (half bull mastiff, half great dane) he chokes me with just his head.

Mine is just over a year old. MY GOD! Puppy hood was tough going with her! I've had puppies before and non was slow to learn stuff. I actually thought i'd bought retarded dog at times! Honestly, you need an abundance of patience and you need to be fair, not just assertive with discipline. Too hard they won't listen. Too soft they won't listen. But, to my amazement this last 2 months she's flourished. She's calm, affectionate, very caring of our other dogs, gentle - just wonderful.

I regretted buying our male until the age of 2 years... so much hard work it is impossible to explain... i'd say left, he'd go right etc etc... from 2 1/2 onwards he has been the best the most loyal and fun animal you could wish for.... the males are real slow in maturing. He started getting lonely do we got him a bitch for company.... she is so sweet it is hard to explain... leave the room for a minute, come back, and she will start wagging her tail and come and greet you. fantastic breed.

Oh, and not only patience in abundance, but a strict understanding between you ad your partner on rules.... give them one slight sign of difference in discipline and they can be heaven for one person and hell for the next.... granted though puppyhood is rough experience with them!

TO: Kayla7568. Good Quality Akc and Aka papered Bullmastiffs run about 12- 14 hundred for males and 13-15hundred for females. make sure you do your homework. They need lotsa love and discipline. they're a handful growing up but mature beautifully. many do tend to have very short lifespans and are very prone to crippling arthritis and premature death caused by cancer. they're a great big breed that can love a lot in their short years.

My bullmastiff is 153 pounds at 20 months, I assumed he was a cross but have been assured he's not a mix by a couple of breeders. One did tell me he was a boerboel though which did his credibillity no favours as ben has a red coat.

OMG. I have a Bullmastiff girl (Scarlet Magnolia) and that is exactly what she does! We call it "being held down and given a Mastiff Bath against your will" She has to have her nightly cuddle time and with her insistence AND paw power, well, you just gotta give in!
