Catching Mew in Pokemon Red and Blue versions

How to catch Mew/Mewtwo... use the PokeBall that Prof. Oak gives you that catches any Pokemon first time with 100% success rate, I forget the name of the ball itself but you only get 1.

this is not the only way to catch him, when i saw the video i was bit upset because i already ran through the youngster. After reading up online i was a bit surprised to see that UCBERKLEY had an article on it. It's all based on mathematical equations if you google "how to catch mew in pokemon blue" the first links specifies how.

Not only does this work with mew but it would also work with any other pokemon in theory. In fact I've tested it.

I just discovered that you can also battle the people in Misty's gym to get ANOTHER MEW, as well as a Staryu. Training two Mews would be a pain but you could give one to your friend or something.

@Jesusoraclelion So did I. I also got Gengar and Scyther. Wow, you can get a team of really awesome pokemon doing this before you even beat Misty. My team for the game will probably be Lapras, Mew, Charizard, Gengar, Scyther, and Marrowak. It even has good type coverage too.

I just got a Cubone early doing this as well. The way to get the other pokemon early is by fighting other trainers, other than the one with the Slowpoke. You have to get them to walk up to you in the same way in the video, otherwise it will freeze. But you can get an interesting variety of pokemon earlier than the game intended by doing this.

@collegeboy391 it has to do with the coding of each pokemon. The critical coding of the lvl 7 mew is the exact same as the level 17 slowpoke and that tile you run into mew on the game activates the numbers because they are suspended with the start menu freeze.
