A God fearing Christian will tell you: "The famine in Somalia is another sign that Jesus is returning soon! The Earth will be destroyed and the Kingdom of Heaven well be upon us! This world is nothing. Those who love the world cannot love God..." and in their heads they finish with the words, "... I got mine, why bother." Don't believe me? It takes about 2 minutes to find scores of YT channels that make these claims.
Dislikes? How can anyone dislike this? What kind of self centred, scum sucking pile of trash does one have to be to actually dislike a call to an altruistic agency such as MSF? Oh right, the Jesus freaks - the same people who think the Universe revolves around them.
@Direkin Seriously? The world is full of people who think that nobody outside of their race, nationality, religious cult, etc. should be bothered with. Just watch the news.

Kindly keep your deluded bullshit to yourself. This is a video about MSF, not ANOTHER claim of rapture. Frankly i've already survived rapture five times and am honestly getting sick of it.
I actually got into an argument with a guy about this. I said the one question no religious person can answer was, "What good things are done through religion that cannot be done through secular means?" He in turn rattled off a few Christian charities, and I responded with secular charities including Doctors Without Borders. Then he said that, that wasn't the argument... YES IT WAS!!!
Oh dear, is it that time of year again? Trying to out-Christian the Christians, are we? God forbid you'd actually pick a charity that supports atheist or **gasp** transhumanist causes. You know, the kind of stuff that could make a *real* difference, like anti-aging research. Oh well, carry on...
@ImmortalUniverse They're doing this to look good and feel better about themselves, not because it's logical or effective. It's all about empty rituals and keeping up appearances, just like religion. 'Oh, look at meh, I'm supporting this generic, feelgood charity, ain't I righteous?' If they'd actually give a fuck about rationalism they'd support an explicitly atheist or transhumanist cause, something that matters as opposed to something that will earn you max brownie points.
@ImmortalUniverse "how do you know they are doing this to look good. isnt that a little speculating ??"
I'd call it an educated guess... Even if they genuinely mean well, they're still flying on autopilot instead of thinking critically about the issue. It's frustrating to see all this energy and potential wasted on something so generic, and ultimately pointless.
@ImmortalUniverse This isn't the start of something new or better, it's just the same old symbolic futility being repeated over & over again. There's no recovery here, not for the suffering poor, and not for the proudly and stubbornly deathist atheist community. Throwing some spare change at a large, well-funded organization that gives medical aid to people who, in most cases, would be better off dead. Yeah, very useful...
@Parapon3ra mmm, you sound a little negative to me. no one is better off dead . dead is the end. we got a eternity ahead to be dead . so that can wait for a while. you got to look at positive things man. when you look at the world negative, you only see the bad things and you end up hanging from a tree. you compare your situation with them. it would make you depressed to life like that. you dont know how they feel. ill bet they are happy with help. no matter how small or big.
@ImmortalUniverse People in the 3rd world (and people in general) accept way too much. That's their main problem. Acceptance leads to stagnation and oppression. Got to get angry, got to fight for change.
You can please some of the people some of the time but HATERS gon HATE. This is one of THE most worthy causes I can think of making the world a better place for those to whom it's been an utter hell. Extending the lifetime of fat well-cared-for people is by comparison down-right selfish.
...okay in my own defense i honestly don't get to pick who i treat. Trust me, given the chance i'd help MSF since i feel that is what my training would be better suited to. But yeah... there are some "Doctors" who think that a private practice is what they should be doing. Haruhi forbid a doctor work in a fucking hospital and treat patients who need it rather than helping some rich fuck with a hangover. Pisses me off, as you can tell.
There is no such thing as a doctor who puts money before people. Anyone who would perform that practice disqualifies himself as a doctor. There's more to it than a diploma and a tortured love life.
I'd have to disagree. There's no moral imperative to being a doctor. Yeah they take an oath but I think it's the knowledge of the anatomy and healing that qualifies people whether they choose good or evil that's up to them.
@FrostbittenWolf Right... the MD that choose to do cosmetic surgery rather then... also any kind of doc, is totally not putting the money first... I have no real hate for them though, they are no worse then most people in this world, but I do have a great deal of respect for those MDs who choose there work where they are most needed and not where the most money is.
@ThorTheOdinSon I work at a start up where 10% of all profits goes straight to children hospitals, how about you? That does not include any donation I personally give. But, I am not so much looking down at MD's that choose money over people, but looking up at those who put people over money. I can judge, but I try to judge with compaction and understanding.
@Leadman1989 As I mentioned before, MSF doesn't fundamentally change anything. Life will still be short and miserable for these people, all you got them is a few extra years of poverty and suffering.
"Extending the lifetime of fat well-cared-for people is by comparison down-right selfish."
Commie, much? The irony is that the 'selfishness' (re life extension) of the West would ultimately benefit the whole world, as it has done in the past. Without us there wouldn't even be modern medicine.
MSF is providing health services to the ill and poor. Keeping the impoverished from dying (tomorrow, possibly) of a preventable illness trumps "Gee, I hope I live to be a hundred", no?
@billygutter01 No, I'm not kidding. Potentially extending everyone's (healthy) lifespan indefinitely, and triggering a second Age of Enlightenment trumps potentially adding a few more miserable years to the hopeless lives of a bunch of 3rd worlders. If you don't get that, you're really fucking stupid.
@billygutter01 It's a drop in the ocean, a waste of time, energy, intellect, money, and publicity. The atheist community's limited resources could (and should) be used much more effectively and relevantly. The whole frickin' world supports MSF, they really don't need your godless spare change. Supporting small and underfunded groups like SENS Foundation (or even the Council of ex-Muslims, if life extension is too 'radical' for you) would make much more sense.
@Parapon3ra "The atheist community's limited resources"
Oh, you mean like Bill Gates? An atheist, the richest man in America, and oh yeah, the person who gave more money to charity than the next several biggest givers combined? Are those the "limited resources" you are talking about?
@Parapon3ra Why do you thing slowing the aging process would lead to any particular change like the "age of Enlightenment"? And how do you reason that we are not currently in the greatest "age of enlightenment" now? The right of scientific, medical and materiel changes in the past 100 years seems to dwarf nearly everything for the previous 2000.
who knows why these single issue paranoids think the million fucked up shit they think ? if there is anything to be found about his motives, it's probably within the confines of a doctor-patient confidentiality privilege between him and his shrink who must have been seeing him since he was five.
@Loathomar Yes, there have been great scientific and technological advances in the past 100 years, we have cars, planes, the internet etc., but in many ways we're still incredibly primitive. Bronze age religions and crude 19th century ideologies still rule the world, our (failing) economies are still based on wage slavery and (artificial) scarcity, and we still destroy our dead. Embracing life extension would almost certainly cause a positive feedback loop of reason, freedom & progress.
@Parapon3ra Religions in the first world are dying already. It the "hyper religious" US, you can look at age vs religious view and see how quick it is going. Only 6% of people over 60 are non-religious where as 25% of 18 to 22 are non-religious. That is a 19% growth in 40 years. If you want religion to die out wait another 80 years. But stopping age would not end religion, it would keep it alive in all those 94% of people over 60.
@Loathomar Defeating aging would give people real HOPE for the first time in history. Knowing that you don't have to degenerate and die would not only liberate us from the psychosis of deathism, but also from religion (which thrives on misery and death). Science and technology would finally get the respect and support they deserve as more & more people would realize that ultimately EVERYTHING is an engineering issue. The enemies of reason, freedom & progress would no longer be tolerated.
@Parapon3ra Why? I mean, if we stop aging we can not have children at any reasonable rate. Working to make the world better for ones children is often a far better motivation for making the world better then for ones self. You might hope that if we stopped aging humanity would flourish, but I see no real evidence for such a flourishing. Would could just become laze to infinity, as everyone would only still work for ~40 then retire forever and there would be no change in progress.
my educated guess is Parapon3ra is just a fucking confused teenage idiot who's shit scared of death so he wants the rest of the world to "cure" it for him... this is his stupid method of trying to achieve that goal. the great irony is, he will probably die having never truly lived, obsessed with his fear of death and irrational fixation to overcome it.
@Parapon3ra Are you... on crack, or something? That's not even a coherent statement, so I can't tell exactly how virulent it is. I get the gist, though.
@Parapon3ra Your profile pic is bunch of guns, and your are virulent and rather incoherent at times... Either your a crazy violent person, or you're on something.
The level of the guests goes up every year. The first time just one of these would have been a big catch, and now look where we are.
Try to contact Rep. Peter Stark (D - CA), the only openly atheist member of Congress. Maybe he's busy and maybe we're a touch to activitst for him, but he'd be a great addition to talk about the confluence of religion and politics.
why would any thumbs down a video advertising a charity event?... they do realize that thumbing's this down puts it further down the search list, therefore giving it less exposure, right?
@MGsven i think a new tactic needs to be done religious people always shout free will is why people go to hell ask them about sickness and what free will has to do with sickness, apparently God can't cure even the common cold. That being said i do not believe the bible koran or any other holy book is more then fiction tales, however without proof i also can not say no God(or perhaps better word higher intelligence)Let the beat down begin ,just let me duck behind the couch first lol
@johndebbra I can't speak for (or with) the dead, but Mother Teresa seems to have thought that the purpose of disease is so that she can watch people die and thus improve her soul.
Most atheists I've known or heard of don't claim to be able to disprove god. I've been a little irritated with American Atheist billboards saying things like "You KNOW there's no God"--it suggests that we're all gnostic atheists, and gives the theists more ammunition.
Make it clear this year the UK tax payers should use the justgiving site to add the extra Gift Aid. Otherwise many just pick the first link and you miss out on it.
It's noble putting effort into helping others, but couldn't you pick a more appropriate charity this year for atheists/secularists like the council of ex-Muslims of Britain or or Richard Dawkins foundation for Science?
Thank you for posting times! As a resident of Norway, it was always a big hassle in the beginning to keep up with the timezones, but you addressed that issue relatively quickly. With UK times posted, i have no problems seeing immediately when the shows will run according to my local timezone. :)
You should've created your own domain and used WordPress (.org) for it....then you could've done more with it, including Ad Revenue (which you could also donate)....But cool either way
@hornsofthebull or maybe they are sick and tired of known youtubers thinking of them as piggy banks and constantly trying to milk them for so called "good causes", while an organization like MSF rely heavily public funding and only became dependent on donations because they refused to disclose their spendings
@quaxk Proof that MSF relies heavily on public funding?
Their site says 90% of non-US branches are non-gov funded, and 100% of US branch is non-gov funded.
Last question
doctorswithoutborders . org/donate/faq/
There about page is also expressive of that fact. They have not sought gov funding in US and little elsehwhere since 2002. For whatever reason, your statement at best is way out of date.
I also have not found any calls of scam through several key searches.
@quaxk said "they are sick and tired of known youtubers thinking of them as piggy banks and constantly trying to milk them for so called "good causes""
do you have any evidence that msf isn't a 'good cause'? & how is disliking (or liking) a video promoting a charity event productive? either donate or don't, but don't piss on those that are actually trying to help make a difference in the lives of those that need it most. i also wonder who should promote the event besides 'known youtubers?'
Grayling is a British philosophy professor and leading sceptic. Krauss is a theoretical physicist and leading sceptic. PZ Myers is a biology professor and well-known sceptical blogger.
@nashertheatheist Haha I just realised that I posted without finishing the comment. I was meant to say "Awesome!" at the end or something like that. I really can't believe he managed to get some top scientists and philosophers.
I'll be at the ThinkInc Sceptics conference in Melbourne on the 18th ;) Along with Neil Degrasse Tyson, Christopher Hitchens, ZOMGitscriss and others. I'll be sure to donate though.

The level of the guests goes up every year. The first time just one of these would have been a big catch, and now look where we are.
Try to contact Rep. Peter Stark (D - CA), the only openly atheist member of Congress. Maybe he's busy and maybe we're a touch to activitst for him, but he'd be a great addition to talk about the confluence of religion and politics.

why would any thumbs down a video advertising a charity event?... they do realize that thumbing's this down puts it further down the search list, therefore giving it less exposure, right?

tctheunbeliever 8 months ago
@MGsven i think a new tactic needs to be done religious people always shout free will is why people go to hell ask them about sickness and what free will has to do with sickness, apparently God can't cure even the common cold. That being said i do not believe the bible koran or any other holy book is more then fiction tales, however without proof i also can not say no God(or perhaps better word higher intelligence)Let the beat down begin ,just let me duck behind the couch first lol
johndebbra 8 months ago
@johndebbra I can't speak for (or with) the dead, but Mother Teresa seems to have thought that the purpose of disease is so that she can watch people die and thus improve her soul.
Most atheists I've known or heard of don't claim to be able to disprove god. I've been a little irritated with American Atheist billboards saying things like "You KNOW there's no God"--it suggests that we're all gnostic atheists, and gives the theists more ammunition.
Not disagreeing, just yapping.

Make it clear this year the UK tax payers should use the justgiving site to add the extra Gift Aid. Otherwise many just pick the first link and you miss out on it.
KylieTasticUK 8 months ago
It's noble putting effort into helping others, but couldn't you pick a more appropriate charity this year for atheists/secularists like the council of ex-Muslims of Britain or or Richard Dawkins foundation for Science?

Thank you for posting times! As a resident of Norway, it was always a big hassle in the beginning to keep up with the timezones, but you addressed that issue relatively quickly. With UK times posted, i have no problems seeing immediately when the shows will run according to my local timezone. :)

@hornsofthebull my friends a robot and you insulted his feelings.
SuperiorApostate 8 months ago
@hornsofthebull or maybe they are sick and tired of known youtubers thinking of them as piggy banks and constantly trying to milk them for so called "good causes", while an organization like MSF rely heavily public funding and only became dependent on donations because they refused to disclose their spendings
quaxk 8 months ago
@quaxk Proof that MSF relies heavily on public funding?
Their site says 90% of non-US branches are non-gov funded, and 100% of US branch is non-gov funded.
Last question
doctorswithoutborders . org/donate/faq/
There about page is also expressive of that fact. They have not sought gov funding in US and little elsehwhere since 2002. For whatever reason, your statement at best is way out of date.
I also have not found any calls of scam through several key searches.
waltermh111 8 months ago
@quaxk bbb . org/charity-reviews/national/human-services/doctors-without-borders-usa-in-new-york-ny-783
I assume that this is what you mean though. BBB says they do not meet 2 of 20 measurements of something for them.
They meet 18 of 20, and 1 of the 2 is only because of one event where they didnt disclose numbers from a music sale promotion.
Thats it, after lots of searching and praise, thats the only possible negative, and its not even worth mentioning, one promotion.
Your choice.
waltermh111 8 months ago
@quaxk From where did you got the information regarding the cause for the lack of public funding for MSF.
nekedemus 8 months ago
@quaxk said "they are sick and tired of known youtubers thinking of them as piggy banks and constantly trying to milk them for so called "good causes""
do you have any evidence that msf isn't a 'good cause'? & how is disliking (or liking) a video promoting a charity event productive? either donate or don't, but don't piss on those that are actually trying to help make a difference in the lives of those that need it most. i also wonder who should promote the event besides 'known youtubers?'
