Helaas is er tot op heden geen alternatief voor castreren voor biggen en blijft het noodzakelijk (zoals ook bij andere dieren wel eens het geval is). Let wel: ook voor de boeren is dit echt geen leuke bezigheid en ook bij hen staat diervriendelijkheid voorop.

Leef je wat meer in voor de situatie van varkenshouders in Nederland en stem vooral geen PVV. Zij kunnen wel hard roepen, maar niet hard optreden. Ze hebben nog voor geen enkele probleem een goede oplossing bedacht.

It's a precaution. Some male pigs will taste and smell bad after slaughter because of their hormones. (that's called boar taint.)

Unlike what some other people said, this is NOT done to stop them from procreating, the animals are slaughtered long before they reach sexual maturity. Which also means that very few will develop boar-taint. So 99% of the times, this is a useless procedure.
