None. Well you have unlimited air since its fed to you from above the water, but you are restricted in movements due to the weight or the thing, and being tethered by the air hose.
Just one comment... he dresses-in on the steps where there are no handrails and at one stage has boots (18lb each) and an open suit. If he fell or slipped off those steps there aint no safety diver around and he'll weigh a ton - it would be a big 'goodnight' despite the lifeline. If you want to know where I get my reasoning - i worked many years in standard gear.
Just returned from doing this; it's an amazing thing to do. For me personally it was a dream come true. The operation is professional through and through. The people who run the business are dedicated, and committed to you having a safe and enjoyable time. The location of the dive is away from any boat traffic, you walk alongside the harbour wall, and it is easy to find your way back to re-surface. I cannot praise this company high enough and would do it again [it's a 15 hour car journey though]
I own the company Leviathan International which runs the hard hat diving in Stromness.I can assure everyone everything is above board, if you have any concerns please visit my website for any further information you require, Thank you.
You expect there is an arrangement, but don't know for sure.yet you are willing to put on the kit and jump in under their supervision. hmmmm good dive practice
@titsgalore48 I have been diving all around the UK coast for over 20 years and i'm quite familiar with safe diving practices, i'm also a realist on whats essential and whats desirable.
I also dive solo, dive in shipping lanes, penetrate wrecks and use air/nitrox to 50m all of which are perfectly safe or suicidal depending on your perspective.
@Nitrox326 look..i wasnt trying to offend you or nothing i am getting my certification now and i was just told that you should never dive without everything being planned to a T and never dive without 100% operational dive gear...so
@titsgalore48 yes thats a good policy, however with experience you learn things go wrong an how to deal with them. All drysuit divers will get a leak at some point and dont usually notice till they are in the water, most will also continue the dive - albeit with a shorter run time perhaps.
On this dive there is comunications between diver and air pumpers via an intercome in the helmet and a safety rope around me run out by another surface cover member. The video operator is fully rescue qual
I wonder if this operator had insurance, Hse qualifications and approval from the local harbour authority before letting this diver in the water behind where the local lifeboat that may need to leave at a moments notice is moored up.
cool

Wow, I never thought such a cool topic could be made into such a mind-numbingly boring video.

I expect there is an arrangement as it happens quite a lot and there are Harbour Masters and Life boat crew about.
Its also such a big Harbour and these steps are so out of sight of the town that no local official will ever notice it going on.
