This game is fantastic and the fact that rockstar released this for ios makes me respect them that much more, i don't care if their intentions were to get money and what not, but they really did a good heck of a job porting it, and i praise everything in this game from the storyline to the gameplay, im a big fan of the series like everyone else but i'm still shocked that i have this classic game on my ipod, 10/10 from me, hands down best game on the appstore.

@MARIOBTR98 well if you like free roaming games,driving like gta buy gta3, if you like shooting games and multiplayer with good graphics i recomend you mc3 fallen nation! i specially prefer mc3 because when you finish the storyline you can proceed to multiplayer

Yes, it may not have cheats; but I finally realize that it's not always about the cheat codes. The missions CAN be a lot of fun without the cheats, and chasing the police is a challenge, but a fun challenge! Thumbs up if you're addicted to it as well!
this game was revolutionary back then, and is still one of my favorite games of all time,it almost doesnt have post processing effects like in the ps2 and pc versions but the models have better quality,also the car reflections look better now, and if compared to liberty city stories for the psp this really looks better,so for a mobile device this is top notch quality, the ipod 4 version lags a bit, the iphone 4 doesnt lag as much and has no shadows, ipad 2 and iphone 4s ftw good review btw :D

Yes, I too am amazed that GTA3 is available on the iOS platform, but excusing flaws because of the platform its on means developers have no incentive to dig deeper and come up with better ideas or complete experiences. Just got the game, and it runs really smooth on iPad 2. Still, i got some complains! This auto-aim is as horrible as it could get! You have NO way of proper aiming, so you just got to shoot and hope that eventually you will hit the right person! It would be nice with you could just touch the NPC and target him, or a better way to move the camera around! (you can only do it, by touching the middle of the screen, not the right side). Driving is surprisely good although i do miss the GPS funcition!
@raphmagaldi Finally someone admits this!!! I cant get past this friggin mission where you have to take out a shitload of triads with some of your helpers. I keep getting killed because I cant aim and kill anyone! If i get close enough to where I have some ability to target him, I get beat down. I pretty much have to car kill all the enemies because the aiming is terrible as it can get. what the hell??!?!? Everyone overlooks this but for god sakes it makes the game unplayable combat wise.
@WhiteWolf56765 True indeed! This very mission i did as you did, by running the Triads over with a car, because firefights in the iPad is freaking impossible! I played all past GTA's on the PC and i didnt know how bad aming was on the ps2 version! Hope Rockstar releases an update with better aim and camera control.

@MARIOBTR98 Yeah I guess so. I have rio and about to get this one. And based on the graphics shown here, Rio has SHITTY graphics. You can see some pixels in the car lights and their facial expressions of the characters just look stupid
@vulo1234455 Get a tank, and do the missions in that. You cab easily cash in about 30-50k in a few minutes without a challenge, and you can get like 400kk if you're good enough. I used to play the shit outta this game back in the day
the game is AWESOME but the one problem (which is quite big) is the aiming system... its really annoying and frustrating to kill enemies with guns and you usually end up killing civlians instead of enemies =( apart from that, roaming liberty city again on an iphone or ipad feels incredible!!
Andrew, anyone can u help me!!... im up to the last mission and that whore catalina wants 500k and im about 120k short and no more story missions available and i cant do the last mission without the money. Any ideas or what?. the mini missions such as the cab fares, ambulance, fire brigade and vigilante missions only give around $150-200 and increases very slowly by each level complete
@vulo1234455 Rampages and Unique Jumps are your best bet - the mini missions are really more of a distraction. Depending on your skill you should be able to net quite a decent amount of cash.
Australia is a good country to live in... but honestly.. i dont know why they just cant make R18+ Games... May as well ban movies that are r18+ then.. Kids could easily just download r18+ movies from the internet and i dont see what the problem is with r games

@Kronicilln3ss The lack of additional vehicles (motorbikes/planes) does date the game, but it's still a superior product (hell, even the wonky auto-aim in GTA3 is better in its own way). Once you start unlocking areas there's far more fun to be had in GTA3. I'd say wait a while though - if you have Rio there's no rush... try and enjoy it first, GTA3 will still be there later if you want to play it ;)
Just got rio from gameloft for a buck. Only one week and a month exactly maybe a day give or take but let's say 4-5 weeks after the release it went from full price to $1 in a month. So why pay full price for anything other then mc3 which is there flagship game and will not go down till at least 6months I hope I'd be mad if it happens again days after I got O&C full price a $1sale WTF gameloft don't pay full ever again

I just got this game for my iPhone 4. All running well but there are no traffic lights nor tail/headlights? That's so lame! Do you know whether they will add this to the iPhone 4 version or not? I know it's a little detail but these little details can make or break a game on a mobile platform.

Unfortunately, there is no blood effect on a 4g.. Or any shiny features. "making it have better performance" There is a post on toucharcade which allows you to put all the shiny graphics and features in to it. The guy said it didn't change the performance at all. You don't need jb device, only iexplorer. You can use presets he has.
It would be great if you could say a word on how demanding games like this perform on older devices, like atn Ip4 or even 3GS. I know this does take more time for reviews, but what's the use in getting a game when it doesn't run good on your device?
@gatnom I've got it on my 3GS. It does lag a bit, and crashes.. which is very annoying! I wouldn't recommend buying it now, if Rockstar updates it to optimize it for the 3GS pick it up then.
I like it ;) I'm using a iPod touch 4G and I must say I had so far 1 crash and that was when it was raining and lightning and I went to my safe house to save. My only complaint is how come there isn't no blood effects for iPod touch users! Oh and a slightly lag frame rate and slow downs otherwise great port of the original.
Hey andrew, did you already get past the mission called "Bomb da Base act II"? If you did, was it easy? It seems really hard to do on iOS because of the sluggish sniper controls...
I got a little suggestion for your videos. You should put the note out of 5 in the video, it would make the videos more complete. But, otherwise, great job. And also, the review isn't on appspy.com yet for some weird reason.
@Xirvet Ha, I've been watching AppSpy and haven't checked out their vids in quite some time. A bit funny people still ask for "star" reviews. Personally I feel his reviews are self explanatory for how good or bad the app is. Blatantly tells the pros and doesn't hold back on the cons. By doing so, it leaves you to make the decision. Instead of risking saying 5/5 or 2/5 and you buy it and disagree and are mad; without bias he describes the game and you decide if it's worth it. I love that.

@1nsaint It's simply because the game isn't optimised for ipad 1. It will work properly only on a iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipod touch 4g and ipad 2. The other devices will have troubles with it.
@Xirvet Or maybe it's some people and not others..I tried to play gta 3 on my ipod touch 4th gen and it crashed on the menu screen everytime. I've already played and beaten it on my iphone 4s with no crashes at all.
@BCWSNIPZZx the money they profit from it far surpasses the expenses, and not only that, they probably get most of these apps for free. Imagine you are a game developer and wants to make you game known to the masses. Sending a request to these sort of channels for a video on your game would definitely help.
@BCWSNIPZZx Far less than you'd suspect - even assuming every game we review is purchased outright (this is not always the case due to pre-release builds) the final cost is quite minuscule. Certainly far more than the average iTunes user, but still quite cheap ;)

I just got this game for my iPhone 4. All running well but there are no traffic lights nor tail/headlights? That's so lame! Do you know whether they will add this to the iPhone 4 version or not? I know it's a little detail but these little details can make or break a game on a mobile platform.

@Ownt45 it wont let me post the link, but google toucharcade modding gta 3 for ios. It should give u a forum with instructions on how to fix the issues.i modded it with hex editor and its working like the 4s or ipad 2 version with blood, gore, lights, everything

Unfortunately, there is no blood effect on a 4g.. Or any shiny features. "making it have better performance" There is a post on toucharcade which allows you to put all the shiny graphics and features in to it. The guy said it didn't change the performance at all. You don't need jb device, only iexplorer. You can use presets he has.

It would be great if you could say a word on how demanding games like this perform on older devices, like atn Ip4 or even 3GS. I know this does take more time for reviews, but what's the use in getting a game when it doesn't run good on your device?

@gatnom I've got it on my 3GS. It does lag a bit, and crashes.. which is very annoying! I wouldn't recommend buying it now, if Rockstar updates it to optimize it for the 3GS pick it up then.

I like it ;) I'm using a iPod touch 4G and I must say I had so far 1 crash and that was when it was raining and lightning and I went to my safe house to save. My only complaint is how come there isn't no blood effects for iPod touch users! Oh and a slightly lag frame rate and slow downs otherwise great port of the original.

@Xirvet Ha, I've been watching AppSpy and haven't checked out their vids in quite some time. A bit funny people still ask for "star" reviews. Personally I feel his reviews are self explanatory for how good or bad the app is. Blatantly tells the pros and doesn't hold back on the cons. By doing so, it leaves you to make the decision. Instead of risking saying 5/5 or 2/5 and you buy it and disagree and are mad; without bias he describes the game and you decide if it's worth it. I love that.

@1nsaint It's simply because the game isn't optimised for ipad 1. It will work properly only on a iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipod touch 4g and ipad 2. The other devices will have troubles with it.

@Xirvet Or maybe it's some people and not others..I tried to play gta 3 on my ipod touch 4th gen and it crashed on the menu screen everytime. I've already played and beaten it on my iphone 4s with no crashes at all.

@BCWSNIPZZx the money they profit from it far surpasses the expenses, and not only that, they probably get most of these apps for free. Imagine you are a game developer and wants to make you game known to the masses. Sending a request to these sort of channels for a video on your game would definitely help.

@BCWSNIPZZx Far less than you'd suspect - even assuming every game we review is purchased outright (this is not always the case due to pre-release builds) the final cost is quite minuscule. Certainly far more than the average iTunes user, but still quite cheap ;)
