  • The reason reason I said "and" instead of "about" is because my PHONE has autospell. Because I'm not poor like h2h2h2h2. Fuck him.

  • Everything h2h2h2h2 has posted on YouTube is completely fucking retarded and false. He's a stupid poor fuck and knows nothing and mazda or cars in general. Fuck you dude. FUCK you

  • Taking the walls out doesnt add any horsepower. The walls are there to change the reverberations. It just makes it run quieter. Removing the screens will add 1 bhp for each one removed, as they add resistance to the air flow. I've removed mine, and it sounds a little better, but if your going for the extra couple of HP, you have to remove the screens, which will also cause eddies in the airflow and might throw your MAF off a little.

  • The walls also directs flow directly to the middle of the filter, which is where you want it. Without the wall, you get nothing but air turbulance along with a little resonance. Turbulance restricts airflow, and ultimately will decrease performance. Mazda engineers placed the walls in there for performance reasons.

  • The screens are a little restrictive, but they are there for a reason - to direct airflow. Turbulance can also be restrictive, and will cancel out any HP gains by removing them. Any mods to the stock CAI does nothing for performance. Personally, I'd advise anyone to do anything to the stock air box other then to add a drop-in K&N filter. The K&N filter does help with performance.

  • I pulled my screens out for a while, but decided that the resulting rough idle wasn't worth the 2hp that makes absolutely no difference at all...

  • The supposed 1HP gain per removed screen is BS. Removing the screens, if anything will decrease performance and ruin your idle, as you have discovered.

  • All you really need to do is just clear the screens of debris and add in a K&N drop-in filter if you want to add performance. The K&N filter allows in more air then the stock paper filter.

  • Question: To take out those mesh screens in the horn or whatever, do you have to disconnect anything from the engine bay to the intake?

  • our cars sound alittle differant lol

what kind of fliter did u get?

    cone or sheet?

    check out my vid

  • it sounds like you have an air intake, that's cool... i wonder if it added any HP's

  • if you take 1 wall out it adds about 1hp, if you take both walls out it adds about 2hp, the stock intake is a nearly perfect design, Mazda didn't let us down with it... even adding the Mazda Speed or AEM (same thing) intake only adds 3hp... I've heard that you can get about 10-15hp with a good catback exhaust and a hi flow cat or racing pipe though... that's what I'm saving up for (and an Esmeril Turbo kit!!! 500hp!!!!)

  • Nope, it's more like a 3-5 HP increase. They also did good with the RX8 exhaust, as it's not that restrictive as well. The only thing that is, is the cat which you can replace with a mid-pipe.

  • I disagree... even the AEM or Mazdaspeed intakes only add 2hp, they all claim big numbers, but when you put them on the dyno the actual difference is hardly measurable... and adding a midpipe might give you a couple hp, but I doubt that, the renesis relies on backpressure a lot more than previous 13b's, my buddy has a midpipe, and catback and says it feels like it's got more power with the cat on, but better throttle response with the midpipe...

  • Exactly what I was trying to get at. It's useless adding an aftermarket CAI and Exhaust, when the stock CAI and Exhaust pretty much performs the same - minus the noise. The 3-5HP supposed gains from these bolt-on's are nothing more then marketing gimmicks to give you the illusion of added performance. By adding the mid-pipe you lose a bit of torque, but gain a bit more top-speed.

  • By the way, removing the walls does absolutely nothing and is NOT recommended. Read my other comments.
