30 years old is prime for a lineman apprenticeship. Most companies don't see it as too old and they seem to like the maturity level. Some years down the road, it can become an issue.
@linemanschool I am 31 and just graduated an apprentice course here in KY on Feb 5th. The oldest to graduate was 46. So I say if you are into it and want to pursue that career, go for it. I was hired about two weeks out of school for Sheperd Contracting. I do everything from set new poles to basic line construction to running communication lines. Go for it hetfield9900, you will not regret it.
It might very well be, However given the choice of any job, I would choose to take employment as a full time school custodian. My second choice would be working on the sticther or taper at a box company while training for a supervisor posisition.
As far as that lineworker thing goes, I'm sure I could do it, if it was a on the job training kind of thing and close to me, yes, I would do it.
