A mighty bunch of musicians from England, and I was very fortunate to see them live in a very small club in Phoenix, Arizona. I had recently returned from Vietnam,1967. My sister said we should go out and catch this show...I'm not exactly sure when we saw this show...67,or 68, very fuzzy period in my history.
But, I do know I saw this powerful group...Thanks UK for so many great musicians...BP blow that clubs doors off...in a good way! Right?
Yeah love the joint smoking pig. Hey this quitat player singer didn't copy anybody. He's just pure blues/jazz all the way. They don't make them like this anymore.

My Mom & Dad had this album the whole time I was growing up and never had the chance to listen to it.I have it now, also as someone pointed out earlier KSHE 95 in St Louis uses this album cover as there official mascot called Sweetmeat..Really digging this sound, sorry I never got to hear it before
yo deanslist..."stand up" cannot begin to touch "this was" nor "ahead rings out" for ass-kicking rock and roll....I liked "stand up" when it came out...but these other two have remained classic rock..."stand up" was classic aol pop...good but pop
First time I've heard this song in over 40 years. I bought this album at the same time I bought Tull's second album, STAND UP and I left it behind when I moved from New York to New Orleans. Still have STAND UP though. This album is good but STAND UP was one of Tull's two best. THICK AS A BRICK was the other.
My way cool auntie brought this to me from England with a hot pink background on the cover instead of red, making it even more astounding as a classic of album art. Loved those swingin' horns in the rockin' mix. Too bad it was stolen. Replaced it with the N.A. release, but it even had different songs than the U.K. version.
I turn 60 next year. First heard this when I was 18 and it still packs a punch and rocks the way I remember. Timeless gutsy rock and roll. Used to have the album and may have to revisit the record store. Oh I forgot they dont have vinyl anymore. Thats what happens when you get older, you forget things lol. Not this stuff tho.
Really hard charging. Unique but pure 50's American rock (with Mick's 60's British blues influence) to delight. Very under appreciated drumming incidentally.
these guys and spirit with randy california and steely dan in studio and jazz fusion are 3 of the greatest. Then pop over to jan hammer, billycobham, jean luc ponty and larry carlton and methany. old timers are the doors, savoy brown and 10 years after.
are you cool enough for these groups istead of antythin after the garbage afterthe outlaws green graass and hightides. Check out fresh garbage by spirit. you will be amazez at the whole first album
One of the many best albums ever made ; this album has it all and fuses so beautifully with rock, folk, jazz and blues and a bonus of great melodic songs to go with the outstanding virtuoso musicianship ; timeless
I met the engineer on this album once - Andy Johns, and I asked him anout it. He was anzed I even knew about it or that I singled it out. He said it was a very straightforward setup with very basic miking on the drums and guitar amps. Hardly any overdubs except the solos of course. Back then fortisimmo guitar playing was starting to come into vogue. Saw them live once, only about 50 people showed up but we loved the show.
Its a class Les Paul / Marshall sound, nothing fancy.
@mikey1829 --- Damn straight........so classic that the radio station K-SHE here in St. Louis, a long time ago, started to use this pig as "Sweetmeat", their logo or what-have-you..........
Great stuff!! Has anyone else noticed that the U.S. version of this album(pictured), has two or three different songs than the U.K. release which is the one that's been re-issued on CD?? I find the U.S. version, which I have on vinyl, to be the stronger, better version.
Imagine, groups like Blodwyn Pig simply walked into the studio and did it live with very little overdubbing or none for that matter. I wonder if today's so-called geniuses would take that risk.
