I got a new card but my psu didnt have cables. Still, nothing beats the shittie intel core 2 duo at 1 ghz

Linux is not compatible with every machine out there. It was probably just a rare case where Linux doesn't like the hardware unless Dell somehow knew about that and made the hardware be incompatible on purpose to stop Linux being used but I doubt that. My mate brought a Toshiba and like many others ive tried to fix, Toshibas suck BADLY! Ive seen 2 USBs, a touchpad and the display go in his laptop within 1 month! UBCD4WIN might have worked for you as an alternative- I recommend it!

is that a Dell Latitude CPx H500GT? If so that was built around 1999-2000 so considering the fact of age eh... but i have the H500GT and have used 98-ME-2000-XP on it and had no issues

My grandma has two Dell XPSes (one old with Win98 and one is a newer version that has XP MCE). The newer version's hard drive died but she got a new drive and reinstalled XP MCE and it hasn't had problems since. My parent's have XP HE on a Dell as well, we have some memory problems that present itself straight after bootup if you try Internet Explorer.

mine turns on it just take 15 to 30 min i scan'ed it to see if there were bugs or anything nope nothing it says it fine its not it freezes all the time takes forever to turn on. all in one day this happen the other day it was fine it didnt freeze it took to 3mins or less to turn on and now all of a sudden it does this grrr i wish i got mac!

@Morbidcrab Yea windows 7 exists now. Easy to repair as well. A spare Dell Precision 450 I got has died. Only 1 of 4 ram slots was working. One cap was bulb shaped. Replaced the cap and still messed up. I don't really want to spend £50 on a new board, so it'll just sit collecting dust now - instead of running linux and working as a silent but powerful server.
thats a dell for you you can recover that harddrive by removiing it and hooking it up to your pc if its sata its as simple as installing a regular desktop drive if ide you will need an adapter their dirt cheap tho
i have the same problem too! It happens to me once in a while. What i do is right b4 windows starts to load pres F8 then go to safe mode, restore to an earlier date it was working.
