This song was played at the start of my grandmother's funeral,as he was her favorite singer......can't listen to it anymore without my eyes filling with tears !!
@debayanbasu11 : I'll tell you even more. I was holding her hand when she passed away. One final look at me, even one more smile....and at 12hours of her 92 birthday, this amazing woman left us. Seems weird maybe. But I was really glad I was there for her on those last moments...
hey i am from mex and i just love this guy for his songs. he was one of the best singer/song writer america ever produced...god bless you mr. john denver where ever you are.
What a performer & singer songwriter? I just wished I could have had the chance to have gone to see him in concert as we haven't got many good stars left these days have we! Thankyou for sharing this footage I really love it as my aunt Annie past away & this song I dedicate to her.
@golferweir Nah, I think that's putting him a bit on a pedestal, and I think he would disagree with you. He was very modest, and was a purveyor of the art of singing and could appreciate the efforts of others. John didn't have a monopoly on great voices. He had to work at it like everyone else who sings/sang for a living. Michael Buble has an outstanding voice if you haven't listened to him. And if you say "today's" singers, then you have to include Elton John and Tom Jones to name two.
@jrssjdca It was an exaggeration, obviously :) I just have loads of respect for this man and his voice. There are many good talents out there, and I didn't mean any disrespect to them.
@golferweir Well just a bit of an exaggeration. Make no mistake about it, he had crystal clear voice and very listenable. There are a good many talents out there, and I'm sure you didn't mean any disrespect. One thing that is true for me based on your "3x" comment, and that is that I'd rather HEAR John with a cold and dry throat than any other artist today or yesterday! It's not only talent, but the essence of the performer, and he was unique in everything he did from guitar playing to singing.
you can tell he's tired and making the best of it with an overused voice...but you can barely tell and that's what makes the great ones... what bothers me most is the eye shadow
So many of his songs were wonderful but Annie's Song sticks out in my opinion as John Denver at his best! As for this performace, well that's what a constant touring schedule will do to you. Sooner or later even the best voices will crack now and then.
this is a beautiful message from love from deep feelings for people understand what is love, love is very important everywhere you are John Denver gave us a strong message from the bottom of the heart we love youtube thanks
He was going up a chairlift in Aspen for the first run of the day, and the line," You fill up my scenes" came to him, In recognition for the woman he was so in love with (Annie) He skied down from the top of the mountain to his chalet and the rest just flowed. That is the day I started to believe in creative MAGIC !!!!!
@rvelliqu As Denver told the story many times, he and his wife Annie had a small argument. Then he went skiing and th esong came to him - it just came floating by!!! He had to rush home to write it down. The entire song took 10 minutes to write.
@dawgtown66 No - bad lighting - plus the end of a loooooong tour - plus a little flu. You can tell from the strain of his voice - and Denver was the owner of a "pitch perfect" voice - he naturally sung and talked in key - which is very rare - MAYBE 1 in 10,000,000 people have a pitch perfect voice!!! Sinatra, Elvis and Dean Martin were anoth 3.
i read somewhere that when his daughter got married a few years ago, they played this as she walked down the aisle. since her daddy couldn't be there with her.
@tranurse Yes Anna K had "Annie's Song" and "For You" played at her wedding. Zak had "Sunshine" played at his wedding. JD was there certainly in spirit- just quite sad he wasn't there in person. He would have been a proud dad at both weddings.
I'm typing this anonymously because I officially like obscure dark electronic music. Nobody knows that every now and then I lock myself up home alone, turn off the ligts and play this video. And cry my heart out.
Lots of love to all other 'suckers' who secretly love this song ;-)
I've been playing guitar for 41 years find myself without words.. Wishing to have 1/3 of his raw talent, vocally even though his voice is sore from touring, or his mastery of the guitar, to be able to strum and pick all the notes and harmonies at once! People only quit buying his records because music moved to a new sound, He will always be a "Musical Genius," It sad to see this good of man have his moment, like all the others as the world moved on, His Talent is undeniable ! God Bless You

@goofygoobe92 Well if you mean just by record sales- no onw not even Elvis sold more than JD- just by sheer numbers in the 70's and that would include Elton John who no one would deny was huge in the 70's. If you mean technically by playing an instrument then I don't know if you can compare one on the piano to JD on the guitar. JD was a master guirarist- flawless in his playing. Simple chords and lyrics but effortless and flowing. And sorry I will take JD's pure voice any day!!
I absolutely LOVE the tiny 'imperfections' in a few of the notes in John's live voice here. He's so real and human, it makes you like him even more. 100% serious.
I have always loved this song, it always makes me cry. He had such a beautiful voice and his lyrics were always meaningful. Bless you John, you left us too soon.
One of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s in terms of record sales Denver recorded and released around 300 songs, about 200 of which he composed. He was named Poet Laureate of Colorado in 1977. Songs such as "Leaving on a Jet Plane", "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", "Annie's Song" and "Calypso" attained worldwide popularity.
Poor John. Sounds like he wasn't feeling so well during this song, or just that his voice was over-worked. Still, it's one of his most loved songs. Thanks for posting.
