  • Amazing voices !!!! This is great !!!

  • Steve Barton is the best Raoul ever!

  • @lamia8312 I think, film Raoul, Patrick Wilson, is too really good. ;)

  • @MsArtepka Patrick Wilson is the best Raoul ever. :)

  • So wonderful... thank you!

  • So wonderful... thank you!

  • Sarah Brightman defintely became more attractive with age...

  • Beautiful voices, I love this.

  • This live in 1984 ?

  • Who is playing Raoul? Wow.

  • @Greekadonis2 Steve Barton. Wonderful voice!

  • I'll admit, I never really have liked Sarah Brightman's singing very much, but this is pretty great :)

  • You're all Dumb. Unless You agree with me that The 2004 Version is 10 Million times better, in Quality and Sound, and Picture. Everything is Better in the 2004 Version. End of story.

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 You mean the movie. The movie was better because they can edit the singing. This is live.

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 ha i saw the nonmusical version and its plot is completely different but of course the newer movie is better.... arent they always?

  • @voldo352 The 2004 Movie Is Way Better Lol, It Has Gerard Butler In It :3

  • @voldo352 well the plot is still basically the same, they were both based off a book and im sure they are both different from that book (im assuming ur talking about the old 30s silent film and the movie with gerrard butler but if not mb haha)

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 I Love The 2004 Version Gerard Butler And Emmy Rossume Did An Amazing Job. And I Don't Know About You. But In This One. When They Sing Angel Of Music, It Kinda Looks Like Sarah Brightman Looks Like She's Gonna Jump Out Of The Screen And Nom On Your Face

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 Totally agree!!!

  • what's with ralph hair. ? cannot compare the voice of sarah brightman with emmy rossum. sarah is the best singer there is. LOVE her. Beautiful voice.

  • I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING FOR A RECORDING WITH STEVE, SARAH AND MICHAEL! but sadly we will never get one, Webber releasing the 25th anniversary show on DVD pretty much seals our fate that we will never get this recording....

  • Call me nuts but I prefer Emmy Rossum as Christine over Sarah...

  • @Ferbbie Thats ok..my favourite is Sierra Boggess..I think its good that everyone have different favourites

  • @Ferbbie OK, You're nuts...

  • @Ferbbie I agree, thank You!!

  • Call me nuts but I prefer Emmy Rossuma as Christine over Sarah...

  • Now THIS was one of her best

  • some kind of beautiful

  • do you have the reprise?

  • this guys ugly (even though he is the original :( )

    Patrick Wilson> this guy

  • @Wayfinder2013 1, Steve Barton is more faithful in appearance to the original book version of Raoul. 2, he's got a much more mature voice than Patrick Wilson

  • @Wayfinder2013 People like you are why crappy movie versions of good musicals come out. You've learned nothing from this musical whatsoever, you missed the entire moral. It isn't about physical beauty -- IT'S ABOUT THE MUSIC!

  • As of now there is no replacement for Sarah Brightman as Christine but in about ten years the the role of Christine should be passed on to Jackie Evancho. Jackie is one of Sarah's greatest admirers and will be truly the next great Christine.

  • @1samspot i agree with you 100%

  • bravi, ma personalmente preferisco Emmy e Patrick!

  • personally, i like patrick wilson more for looks but steve barton had a better voice by like a lot. pw sounds kinda girly...no offense

  • Most beautiful.

  • Wow, I always take Ryan Silverman's face and Steve's voice when i hear this. He look s wierd. To me at least.

  • Chills. Down to the core of my inner soul.

  • Sarah Brightman IS the quintessential "Christine".

  • Phantom of the Opera will always be one of the greats in romance. Sarah's voice is so tender and beautiful. I have always loved it. Thankyou.

  • good

  • beautiful, just breathtaking hearing her sing. This song is amazing.

  • There used to be such amazing talent in this world. What happened? :(

  • @somethingtidal There are still amazing talents such as Hugh Panaro's phantom. I can't think of a Christine replacement for Sarah Brightman though

  • Is there anywhere I can get the entire Play on DVD?Nothing has topped it I love the Phantom of the Opera

  • @temptationjj6 You will be able to on November 14. They will be coming out with the 25th anniversary production on DVD and CD.

  • I have to disagree she puts to much of a vibrato on it but he is very talented

  • Steve was dreamy & gorgeous in this video. Thank you Spaceboy 06 for the info on Steve. I'm sorry to read that he died 4 years ago. May he RIP. And thank you cottonflake2 for posting this video. I'm collecting all these original POTO cast performances on my favorites.

  • It is a couples - music - (song)

  • her voice is magnificent.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!Gooooooooooooooooosebumps!!!!!!!!!!!! Their voice is beautiful.

  • The thing that this Raoul and 2004's Raoul have in common is that both singers have a soft and gentle vibrato which I like and suits the "prince charming" character of Raoul.

  • A real Raoul ,a real Christian,a great theatre!

  • Steve Barton is amazing! I wish he hadn't died, he is someone I would have loved to meet! Thanks for the video it's awesome!

  • Holy sh*t! Where did you get this! I can't find any good quality clips of this musical with the original London cast.

  • Wow I was a little surprised that a few people here didn't know who "this guy" was. This is Steve Barton - the first Raoul. He originated the role in London, Broadway and Los Angelas. He also sings the role of Raoul on the original London cast album. He was from Texas but spent the majority of his career in Germany and Austria and played many awesome roles. He was known as the "Pavarotti of Musical Theatre". Sadly he passed away in 2001 at the age of 47.

  • This is my least favorite scene, it's when outer beauty reins triumphant over inner beauty.

  • bravo more more excellent in every way

  • I walked down the aisle to this song...it was always what I wanted and it very precious to me. As is this musical.

  • Speechless ......

  • hmmm i think i would have chosen the phantom over this guy! lol xxx

  • Best scene ! ☆☆☆☆☆ ^-^/

  • OMG STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! O.O =D

  • Kill the make-up artist who did her face.Yay.

  • He looks like Jim Carrey in the begining.

  • @eyeneed6969 OMG he totally does. weird.. :O

  • llllllooooooovvvvveeee this song <3

  • beautiful voices, but sarah's a bit strange in her mannerisms - or is that just my perception? raoul here is perfect (even more so if he hadn't dumped a whole bottle of blonde dye on his head - or is that a wig?)

  • @16kirsy Yes, yes I agree, she is a bit strange in her mannerisms, sometimes im just like 'What is she doing' with her head, and her eyes ect...but she has a beautiful voice obviously :D

  • I'm team Erik forever but I love this guy cast as Raoul ( just needs to lose the barbie blonde hair-do) his voice is perfect and hes not prissy looking...oh man...partick wilson...*shivers, not in a good way*. Actually...I think he sort of looks a bit like Jim Carrey...A BIT. I have the audio tapes of the entire play with this cast...will never get rid of them!!

  • @JdeppHatter17 "This Guy cast as Raoul" is Steve Barton...and yes his voice is...was..perfect. Definately one of the best singers I ever heard.

  • @JdeppHatter17 This is Steve Barton, a very famous american barriton, who played Raoul and Erik in the OLC. Sadly he died t age of 47. He played also very roles in austria and germany.

  • off all the extracts, this is to me the truest and most touching one, thanks so much for posting, both voices are excellent and very touching, very musical. It is also remarkable that they chose this short ending, without the pathos, I like this much better.

  • Sarah's the best. Besides this is written for her voice anyway

  • Oh the original, how can any one be better than the original !! Sarah's the best !!!

  • @saritsiribud agreeeeeeeeeee!

  • My favorite song.. HANDS DOWN.. Long Live the Phantom of the Opera, Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford... this song gives me the love chills always <3 I cherish now more than ever and will always ...my one love, one lifetime ..

  • Comment removed

  • emmy who? when you have SARAH BRIGHTMAN nothing else matters emmy is awful

  • it really sounds like raoul!!!!

  • Is it Raoul form the original cast? Who is playing him?

  • @eyrena Steve Barton

  • Fantástico!!!

  • Fnatástico!

  • beautiful

  • wow que bonito canta sarah

  • her voice is amazing but she was really a strange actress...

anyway i love her soo much :)

  • Gorgeous singing . . . but what is with that gentleman's hair

  • wOW Steve Barton is the best Raul´s voice i´ve heard... strong simple and beautfiull :)

  • One person was so entranced by Sarah's voice that he/she accidentally hit the dislike button.

  • i like Emmy's voice better it's more soothing to me and has the right amount of vibrato. dont get me wrong i love Sarah Brightman in her own songs but i personally like Emmy better :)

  • poor, dead steve barton.

  • RIP Steve Barton

  • @HotForTrot how did he die?? :(

  • Lovely! The original cast members: Steve Barton & Sarah Brightman. Thanks for sharing CottonFlake2... this video is a true gem.

  • This is why I love Phantom so much.

The emotion going through these two is beautiful.

    I

  • This has to be one of the most moving and beautiful performances with the exquisite voice of Sarah Brightman... sends chills throughout my body and brings tears to my eyes. Such passion in a performance by both actors. Simply moving.....

  • i dont get it, r they singing live? how do they do for the rest of the audience hears them

  • supurb!

  • Man, this must be one of the few clips of Steve Barton anywhere. Guy died too young.

  • they need to make a sarah brightman, and gerard butler movie

  • Oh, what can be better than these two? Maybe, only these two and Michael in addition?.. ;) Thanks for posting!

  • Her renditions of Phantom of the Opera numbers are always AMAZING!! Of course, they were written for her voice... :D

  • No one can sing this like Sarah.

  • A very nice interpretation of this song by the originals Raoul and Christine: Steve Barton and Sarah Brightman.

  • I wish they made a movie with this cast back in the 80's. I mean, Sarah probably can't act worse than Emmy anyway. ;D

  • Sarah is the best! no one compares to her. not even close!

  • I dont know why, but i've always thought that Sarah Brightman looked like a Porcelain Doll in this video!

  • Sarah is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and he is my second favorite raoul. the first is nando prado (but I still hate Raoul! Poor Phantom!)

  • Oh my god.....Sarah Brightman is so young in this video....The only video I have of her is in Repo the Genetic Opera.

  • @Komali07 reeeeeeepomaaaaaaan

  • I find Emmy's voice very pure, but weak, in contrast, when I listen Sarah singing songs from Phantom I can feel a gorgeous large soprano voice.

  • raoul's hair scares me.

  • @sulynsin it is quite scary

  • @sulynsin ahahahahah!!!!!!!! XD that made me laugh so hard.. in the movie raoul's hair is kinda somewhat strange. It bounces :(

  • Steve Barton and Sarah! Sarah there; is not as good as she is now; she is growing... i loved her then; now I really adore her - she is a gem

  • sarah is so great!! (L) personally i think that emmy never will sing like the amazing sarah brightman, just lisent phantom of the opera in concert live in vienna.

  • @andruvampirita I think that Sarah has more of a classical voice, and it's beautiful, but I personally love Emmy's voice. It's amazing.

  • @andruvampirita me too :D even if emmy is great too

  • @andruvampirita

finally someone who speaks the truth...half the ppl I talk to say emmy was so much better....and how in the world did they get this??!!!

  • @andruvampirita Sarah's voice is a lifetime's work... for Emmy, singing is just a hobby sort of...

  • @andruvampirita you can't compare...emmy is a mezzo soprano while sarah is a colatura soprano...

  • @xenialinakaterina As true as their voices are, yes you can compare them. Emmy was not the right actress to portray Christine. I dont honestly think anyone could ever hold up to Sarah's performance. That role was made so perfectly for her, and by her.

  • @andruvampirita I prefer Emmy's voice cause her voice is more sweet and frigile sounding Sarah's is much more harsh and I don't think Christine should have that much vibreto

  • @emnem57 This was written for Sarah Brightman specifically when she was engaged to Weber. This is how Christine's supposed to sound.

  • @MusicalLobsterr Sarah is way better than Emmy, I like her though.

  • OHHH WOW her voice is amazing..iv heard her before buit not like this!

  • gosh this song always makes me wanna cry! or hug someone.... or something.... my stuffed animals! :D such a good song

  • gosh this song always makes me wanna cry! or hug someone.... or something.... my stuffed animals! :D such a good song

  • Um, whose the guy? His voice is nice too. =)

  • @Raivenessa

That's Steve Barton he was the orginal Raoul in London and on Broadway.

  • Haha, Barton's hair. Love his voice though.

  • @tj19941994 Well this was back in the 80's... I think she looks so much better as she matured.

  • I'd say she sounded hell of a lot better back then, than when she sang the same duet with Josh Groban years later. Brighter, more colour in her voice, not as covered-sounding, and a lot more youthful.

Age has done her voice a disservice, imho. :(

  • wonderful

  • wonderful

  • She sounds like she is a 4 year old. I know what that sounds like because my choir teacher has us fix our mistakes when we sing because she wants us to sound like we're 20 not 4.

  • WHAT? No reprise from the Phantom?

    Aww that sucks.

  • HERMOSA CANCION

  • Sarah looks like my math teacher in college 0_0

  • YOU LUCKY SOB SARAH IS SO BEAUTIFUL

  • this song always makes me cry

  • Saaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yooooouuuuu'llllll llllooovveeeee me eeevvvveerrrryyyy waaaaaaakkkkkkkiiinnnngggg moment

  • I just have to say, Sarah Brightman, as beautiful singer as she is as Christine, looks just plain awkward in these early videos but gorgeous in the later vids. She's proof of someone who becomes more beautiful as she gets older.

  • Amen to that. She's become gorgeous over the years. Her voice has always been beautiful though.

  • @ohh thank god,

some one has managed to fsneakilly film this production.

You know they hate any kind of recording in there.

    Nice One Ceril...Nice one son!

  • i just love that part from 1:55 - 2:00 how she just kinda drifts across the stage... awesome!!! she is just so amazing and no one can ever measure up to her, i wish i was born about 20 years later just so i could see this performance, with michael crawford too, in real life :') it brings a tear of joy to my eye.

  • LOL I'm sorry but his hair is so distracting I couldn't hear a second of the singing.

  • sooo true!!! but amazing!!! i just went into another tab and listened :P

  • why does he have to be so blondy? o0

  • Steve Barton's and Sarah Brightman's voices are both soo incredibly beautiful! i wish they could perform this song again together! Steve passed away too early..

  • franziskadenadel-

I agree, and must admit you gave me quite a shock there; so

Steve Barton is dead? We have lost so many talented people who contributed to the beauty of the world lately. Thanks for telling us. Best regards, HG.

  • Divine Sarah. Always thrilling, always beautiful.

  • They both have amazing voices but there is something about Sarah that I find kind of creepy.

  • The fact that she never blinks like ever!!!

  • I agree with you. I love her voice, but hate looking at her...

  • I can agree on that, and yes they both have amazing voices. =']

  • whoooa! what's with the wig??

  • she sound a lot better singing this song then when she sings the music of the night over all i would pay loads of cash going to see her live any day if she wormed up first before she sang

  • wow she looks a whole lot Hotter nowadays

    thats weird

  • Right? Shes in incredible shape now.

  • i agree!

  • Yeah. Raul makes me laugh with that hair colour

  • Steve Barton is my favorite musical Raoul, and Sarah Brightman is my favorite musical Christine. Their voices are ethereal as Michael's.

  • Aw, I love Steve Barton as Raoul! He really brings out the sort of wild childish love he's got for Christine. They're really cute together, here- I love the way they both look down when he assures her that he loves her. After all, Leroux frequently called them both children in the book :D

Sarah here reminds me a lot of Gina Beck, the current Christine in the London production

  • Steve was the best Phantom...no question...Ive seen them all numerous times...no one brought the house down like he did...not even Crawford

  • what an awful blond hair for a man!!!

I would fire the hair dresser!!!!!!!

  • I agree! That blonde wig for Steve looks AWFUL. And Sarah's hair is just all over the place too! It's so messy :(

But their voices and acting! I loved Steve and Sarah - they're amazing together.

  • i dont like raoul.

    cristine is really good though
