  • Anyone know where the football ground shots were filmed?

  • @edesaute Turf Moor ..Burnley

  • @ralphtheclaret do you remember it in the early 80's?, :-), always enjoyed my visits to BFC, lovely people, lovely club, and from a Man City supporter since 1975 - God bless Burnley.

  • @edesaute Burnley F C

  • I bought this VHS at Rough Trade Records in San Francisco. The counter clerk was Pushead who was probably America's best known punk illustrator after John Holmstrom and Legs McNeil.

  • @Jupitroid I remember that guy! There was this person pestering him for his drawing he was making on this small scrap of paper or a white bag and he told the person no he couldn't have it but next got snatched away. I was too young to know he was a known artist but I told him "Man I hate it when they do that to us!" because I'm an artist too and did have my stuff at that age destroyed by mean kids and later taken from me just like that or if I walk away and half done artwork is stolen.

  • Raw and beautiful. Like the bark of the tree of life! I love these guys. Saw them in NY back in the early 90's. Miss NY. Miss The Fall LIVE!!!

  • a more comprehensible song if you follow british football.

see also the george best ep by the wedding present.

  • @mikebott

Eh? There's nothing actually football related on George Best, is there?

"FANS remember you are abroad! Remember the police are rough!"

  • @llanbo sadly there were a ton of american listeners who thought that best was either a fictional character, or something far stupider, like gedge's alter-ego...

  • @mikebott

Ah, I see. One should never underestimate the stupidity of.. well, anyone, I suppose!

"The difference between them and us is that we have brains"

  • How on earth does MES manage that mad squeal when he says "Kicker" from 3:22. I'm a bit in awe.......

  • Great song, and great to see this here. They almost look like a normal band - not just MES and a bunch of disposable musicians.

  • you've got so much amazing fall material to look forward to *( blrgrl )* you lucky bugger happy listening.

  • toe tapping bliss

  • Good stuff - I'd never heard of this band until Pavement mentioned The Fall's influence on them.

  • @blrgrl

by god they're good - get schtuck in, gurl

  • Prime Fall Tune. Superb. Even if MES is sportin' a mullet in this video.

  • They say happy memories leave a bitter taste (hence the BITTER poster).

  • smith predicted how football has turned out.

  • smith has predicted how the world will turn out

  • I agree.

  • By the way, it's "Under Marble Millichp the F.A. broods..." Bert Millichip was chairman of the F.A. from 1981 and oversaw the downfall of the game (in many people's eyes).

  • What football used to be like before New News Global Control State TV Channel Super Sunday TV took over.

  • mullet conspiracy

  • xD xD xD

  • @Tcoldsteel71 mullet e smith

  • @Tcoldsteel71 MES is above and beyond fashion.

  • the famous sports reporter

  • Corporate-U-Lent!

  • congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation.

  • The sheer brilliance of "under marbled millichip, the FA broods" should be acknowledged as the finest piece of poetry ever comitted.. well that and every single moment of Stuart Halll's commentry!

  • One of my favourite bands! My favourite Fall tune! And filmed on Turf Moor!

  • Ll whiney little bitch.

Ooohhhhh its not melodic! Ooooohhhh its not nice!

Go back to listening to Queen...

  • Who is Malcolm Smith?

  • Mark E. Smith

  • Craven Cottage ?

  • THAT is a football-anthem...Fookin Hell, Man!

  • "Under Marbled Millichip the F.A broods"....poetry for a footy man of those times.

  • "on the marble Millichip of the F.A broods how flair can be punished" poetry is right friend

  • Sorry,,, that should have read "The Easybeats"

  • I always wanted The Fall to do a cover of The Merseybeats' "Friday on my mind", think it would be fantastic!...just a thought.

  • Was Marc Riley with the Fall then?

  • No, Smith had fired him off by this single, on the gatefold sleeve 7" there's a picture of Riley with the Smith=penned words of "thought you'd seen the last of this didn't ya??!!"

  • actually I like loads of Fall stuff but in a weird way I also like Eurovision

  • tonybiscuits - totally agree

  • the best band ever.

WARNING will not appeal to those who enjoy eurovision.

  • i actually enjoy both.

  • If you don't know why just by listening to it then there really is no hope for you.

  • it sounds better.

  • I'm Australian so I have absolutely no bloody idea what this song is about (apart from something to do with soccer obviously) but based on being introduced to The Fall through Wings I bought Perverted By Language and loved this track on it. Kick's arse. If only you could crystalise British music from about 1977 to 1982. The kind og song that makes me wish I was in a cool band like The Fall.

  • Well then you would miss this track because it's from 1983 (-; Talking of 1982 though, I think the two FALL albums from those years were their best - Hex Enduction & Room To Live. 1981's mini album SLATES was excellent also.

  • Wembley of the North!!! Up The Clarets!! Happy days!!!

  • Yeah..hasn't Turf Moor changed in the last 25yrs!!.... i'm a life-long Man City fan but always had a soft spot for Burnley...i even live in Rossendale now!

  • just great

  • The footy ground they used for the video was a right dump though. A shit hole. That's right, it's Turf Moor.

  • Best british band of 80´s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mark E. Smith? More like Mullet E. Smith if you axe me!

  • funny

  • Great track totally love this.Marks hair leaves a shit taste in my eyes though haha

  • wonderful
