Thank you very much for posting this great video. I believe Karen's worshipful tone she used here and in singing "Silent Night" is present nowhere else.
Somebody should photo shop Ted Cassidy's head & super impose it onto Richard in this video. He looks so much like Lurch (the way he played the harpsichord).
If Richard decides that he wants to release any additional Carpenters Christmas music to the public,it's up to Richard. Same thing holds true with all of the Carpenter specials for DVD purchase. Richards a Husband, a Dad who has very talented children, perhaps the next generation of Carpenters I think so. Rich can do his music now under his own terms & enjoy the fruits of his Labor. Do check out "Christmas turned Blue" "December Morn"& "Together at Christmas Again" (warning can bring on tears)
Karen is the best female singer who ever lived, PURE MAGIC! people 100 years from now will still be listening to her magical voice. Karen was an angel on earth. :) WE MISS YOU SO MUCH KAREN
(cont.) but i do cherish the ones that she did record. her voice seems to me to sound especially warm and sweet in their christmas music, as if there's a warm glow surrounding it.
thanks again, ned. you're a nifty fellow. (am i too young, at 41, to talk like that? LOL) anyway thanks again for that information. i searched the web hi and lo and couldn't find "away in a manger," and i assumed it was because karen didn't sing on it. to be honest, if it's just an instrumental, i don't really care about it lol. i just want to hear karen's luscious voice. it really is a stinking SHAME that karen didn't sing (didn't get to sing) more christmas songs (cont.)
off topic. sorry. does anyone know if in the carpenters version of "away in a manger" karen sings or not? i can't find it anywhere on youtube or anywhere else on the net, for that matter, and i figure maybe that's just because it's an instrumental or something.
@No1KCfan6 It's an instrumental and is part of an overture on the first Christmas album, "Christmas Portrait." The songs in the overture were: Deck The Halls, I Saw Three Ships, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Away In A Manger, What Child Is This?, Carol Of The Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fideles). Of the songs in the overture, Karen sang only "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and Richard performed "Carol of the Bells" on the piano.
Karen makes every song better yes you are right it is her favorite time of the year. Wish she was here now bet she would still be doing christmas specials. Really miss her.
I cant believe how BEAUTIFUL this song is! It really sums up the meaning of Christmas..more than any other carol....the tune ... the words...the way Karen sings ...drives me to tears every time! God keep you Karen....now you sing for Our Lord and his Angels!
Karen's inner sadness seems to go away when she sings about Jesus. It is so wonderful to see the joy of the Lord in her during Christmas time, evidenced in the Carpenters Christmas songs. Glory to God.
Theis may not be really clear picture wise, - but the sound beats the other one I listened to. This makes you feel as if you have died and entered Heaven it is so beautiful!
