  • Neil Peart doesn't play thrash metal but prog rock is in quite alot of respects, alot harder to play than thrash metal. speed isn't everything

Lars is an average drummer, can we just leave it at that?

  • I love MetallicA but Kirk just shat on that solo. sad.

  • Love how they play the album intro than, BOOM haha so great

  • people need to fucking stop bitching and bitching about lars drumming, who gives a fuck if he doesnt do double bass? yeah lombrado does lightning speed but every fucking song and it gets annoying when all you hear is the same bullshit drumline. and no it doesnt matter about how old you are that determines how fast you play its what you choose to do, its not like lars gives a fuck about your opinions and nor will that change the way he drums so stop being fags and enjoy the best fucking band ever

  • NO DABEL BAS!!!

  • Firstly Dyers eve is a difficult song to play....2ndly Lars is nearly 50........and ya dave lombardo doesn't play 3hrs shows.........n Neal Peart does not play Thrash Metal.........so does that make Lars the best drummer in the world?? NO.....so what....i mean y does lars have to be worlds best drummer?? he's the best drummer for Metallica....so STFU n enjoy!!

  • @abhs6 Fuck that man if I got paid millions to do what I love you better believe I would keep my chops up. There are plenty of examples of older drummers that didn't go downhill the way Lars did. Don't get me wrong he is a decent drummer and he writes beats that work well with Metallica but it seems like he hasn't gotten lazy about his drum technique to me.

  • @JBic420 has become lazy*

  • @JBic420 have u heard Death Magnetic.....n by the way i know there are plenty of drummers...but the point is he never went downhill ....i mean listen to the 1st four albums....i knw u'll say that that wuz in the 80s....but st anger and D'magnetic kick equal ass dude....n talking about load n reload....the band changed direction yes but there is no problem with his drumming....timing .....bass is all in itz proper place.......n m a die hard lombardo fan btw...\m/

  • The first 46 seconds of the song is a recording! Still it ended up pretty cool. This is one of my top 5 Metallica songs

  • @enrgarci no shit man

  • おいラーズ!バスドラはどうした?www

  • das konzert war einfach der hammer!!!

  • Top 10 Metallica song

  • I got these guys back no matter what! Kirk only took lesson from Joe Satriani, he is not Joe Satriani.

  • Okay, to all you fucks that are going off on Metallica, This song was written in 1989 from the Justice album. They never played it live until 2005, So they haven't been playing it that long. All for the faggots that say "It's been four years" and so on, fuck you guys too. They're not going to play a song like this consantly, they have many more song to play and worry about.

  • @dalton665 at least get it right, written in 1988 and first performed in 2004

  • @dalton665 nicely articulated argument. you seem very educated

  • HIDDING FORM THIS THING THAT THEY CALL WIFE!! xD hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • I love metallica but, kirk, c'mon man. just cuz you've made millions doesn't mean you don't have to practice anymore...

  • Okay, I've seen comments about how this performance was off. Even though it was quite off, it's still about 10,000 times better than I can do.

  • I played Guitar Hero Metallica, and took over Robert's position. I have to admit, I have a new appreciation for him. Being without a pick, and still being able to double strum... Not to mention some of the complex riffs. It blows my mind. As for the people saying "this sucks" "blah blah fucking bitch". IT IS LIVE. Let's have you get up infront of 100,000 people and play Master of Puppets. Eat my cock you complainers.

  • Definately not one of thier better performances, but even pros have a crappy night once in a while lol. I've been a metallica fan since 1984 and it's a rare thing to see a shit performance like this.

  • kirk sucks here at the solo totally, and that's not improvisation

  • 105 guys didn't outgrew fucking lullaby

  • WTF he doesn't remember the lyric

  • lars was so sad he couldnt do the intro so it was playback :X

  • Very,very great!!!!

  • I would still pay the to go see them in concert. Nothing like a bunch of big cry babies whining over something they most likely couldn't do the job half as good as these guys have for 25+ years. So grow the FUCK UP and stop crying about it or go jack off to some Justin Bieber video you stupid ingrate fuck. This real music. THIS IS METALLICA !!!!!!!!!! Yes they make music for you BUT it's their music therefore they do it their way NOT your way!! YOU FUCK!!!!

  • Let's get one thing straight here it's been 25+ years in this industry for these guys. All you cry babies out there crying about oh they don't sound or play as fast or just play the way they use too. Grow the FUCK UP would you!!!! After that long i would be amazed that i could be half as good as they once were. These guys are still one of the hardest and best live bands around. Big deal Lars didn't use the double bass pedal boo fucking woo. So what if James was a little off who cares!

  • @dogg7769 Why do the cry babies complain? Let's see, Lars is 47. Dave Lombardo is 46. Both have 25+ years in the industry. Kirk Hammett is 48. Gary Holt is 47. Both have 25+ years in the industry. Sure, every band has off days, but how many professional guitarists have you seen play as bad as Kirk in this performance, even on an off day? I love Metallica, but if other thrash bands from the 80s can still be tight and technically proficient after 25+ years, then Metallica have no excuse

  • @BennettChainmail

    @dogg7769

EXACTLY what this gentleman said. Age is not an excuse. Neil Peart is pushing 50s and he's only improved with age.

  • metallica to this day is still one of the best live bands you can see, I agree with that. their sound is massive, their riffs are legendary, but favorite vocal performance for james was the justice album by far, and he just doesn't sound like that anymore, he's missing something the bite is gone..many tracks on justice were put together piece by piece in the studio, separate from each other on multiple takes, that's why that album sounds so perfect its almost mechanical.

  • did kirk like fuck up on the solo?

  • this song has to be done in tha right frame of mind. and i dought thay can get there anymore.

  • Hey Lars where is the double bass ???? FUCKING TOOL !!!!

  • @mcinty12 Dave Lombardo stole all of the double bass. Noone can have it anymore. :)

  • @mcinty12 can you do the double bass for this song? hm what was that didn't think so, so quit hating dick head

  • @mnunez31 People still complaning about lars and the double bass?

  • @TheShepster80 you were the one who called him a fucking tool for not using Double bass, who fucking cares man they still fuckin rocked that show

  • @mnunez31 I wasn't the one that called him a fuckin tool. your a fukin tool for not reading the comments properly. im saying that morons are still bitching about him.

  • what are people talking about? their performance is fantastic. i say this as an obsessed music fanatic

  • BACK THE FUCK OFF. So they arnt a hundred percent they have never been live, no band is unless they have off stage help. Metallica is one of the best bands you could ever see live ik ive seen them. but really so its not like the record they did fucking great in this performance. and sloppy these fuckers are not.

  • Kirk is sloppy!

  • Hmmm I wonder why they dont play the intro?

  • best metallica song ever, but james can't nail the vocals anymore at all, and lars is off, still best thrash song ever written

  • @mike1cfo let's be more specific please; because I've been a Metallica fan since the mid 80's, seen them live twice in the 90's, and James voice has never been better than what you're hearing here as far as singing goes, if you mean growling then yeah, i agree with you....but hell dude, he still kicks ass. Lars does sound like he's missing a foot tho, lol.

  • The whole song sounded like a dying lump of metal.

  • Kirk messed up a lot in that solo. D:

    I am sad. D:

  • fucking lame crowd

  • Poor Kirks old fingers ain't strong enough to do the bends in the solo any more :P

  • @Wackart yes they are!!! just look some other solos he does on the world magnetic tour, he nails them!!!

  • Drummin is not just about Double Bass or speed.

  • @TrafficMind10 It is in this song.

  • I really hate that they play all of their old songs down a half step, those songs were written in E not Eflat..the music sounds like it is exerting much more in standard tuning imho. But Jame's voice is getting old so what can they do.. Also wtf is with Kirk during the solo? He can't even play his own fucking song esp at 4:26.. of course the one in the band with the most chops at this point is Rob and he is buried in the mix as is standard with Bass on all Metallica songs. still love em though

  • that's why rock band and other has been released.

try double-bassing for 1 or 2 hours straight.

  • yeah it sounds like hes not playing the double bass right(not thats its bad, its just old man drumming a very hard beat straight up), its missing a beat, still rocks though metallica forever!!!!

  • As James mess up on "hidden from this thing they call life"?

  • dude metallica is loved by all!<3

  • FFDP are better

  • @BurgosCRJ666 your opinion

  • These "fans" sleeping or what?

  • @kubasek1111 Its like that at most gigs thesedays!

  • I can defiantly see why they dont play that live too often I mean that song is fast enough as it is and as they always do live, were playing faster so the fuck ups were inevitable. In saying that I would have given my left nut to have been there to see em do it because to me they ARE metal.

  • LAME drumming...Lars doesn't know how to play...Where's the double bass?

  • Lars doesn't know how to play...Off beat several times...LAME!!!

  • Kirk got off beat during the solo lol But still great :D

  • that was a ruff solo o.0

  • This is the solo that Kirk plays alomst 100% precisely............well not in this shot but he's awesome!!

  • I miss James' voice circa '88. God love him for trying, but I don't hear any anger.

  • holy crap whats up with kirk? he was off timing half the time and messed up a few times in the solo. come on kirk u can play better.

  • who cares if their getting older they still kick ass !

  • kirk fucked up that solo. lars is in the zone. james sounds like crap. rob is all that and a bag of chips

  • Great song!! Great riffing!!! fuk the rest.....\m/

  • @metallicaafeb UR A DUMBASS

  • dude kirk failed at the solo pretty badly :(

not to be messed up but its true

  • @xxMETALlui714xx i like kirk, but he did eff it up a bit..oh well all the other music sounded great though

  • @xxMETALlui714xx and u expect him not to? its been about 30 years since they played it...

  • ich war dabei

  • kirk fails solo :s

  • Its not a hype as their old concerts when they were younger. Nevertheless, they still rock, and only true fans understand.

  • @maxidk8000 you are rtight I have been a fan since I was 13. They still are the best

  • lol@ 2.08

  • Y el Doble donde ta wn?

  • This sucks. I can't put my finger on it..it's like they are playing at the airport lol.

  • always so many comments about metallicas dick in dudes mouths and dave mustaines personality and all this random crap on metallica videos. is there anything left to be said. these bands have made their case. you like it or you don't. get over it.

  • Believe me, Kirk Hammett is my fav guitarist. i love his solos, his sound, everything he does, but that solo was just a big mess...Oh well, just a poor performance out of many performances. I was actually fine with the solo, it sounded bad but i've seen good performances of Dyers Eve, so im letting this slip by. The only thing that bugged me was the drums. Im fine if Lars doesnt play full on double bass like the album, but just one kick instead of 8 in each bar? Come on..Still,tallica's my fav.

  • Live songs are much better then studio versions....plus,Metallica rules anyway!!!!!!!!

  • Double bass [missing] fail... this is what gives the power to this song.

  • @jleach96 there's one idiot in every crowd dude and you just spoke up. I'm referring to THIS video. Not Lars's entire career. Smoke another one, DUDE.

  • 101 people dislike this !!??

  • @martinopresnik yes no doublebas, no like...

  • the only think i miss about metallica is james's 80's voice. his new style of singing is kinda wierd but metallica still kicks fuckin ass. Suck on this megadeth

  • the only think i miss about metallica is james's 80's voice. his new style of singing is kinda wierd but metallica still kicks fuckin ass. Suck on this megadeth

  • hey kirk you fucked the solo

  • @chriscleary24 Hey kid I fucked your mom.

This is LIVE: You can't expect them to play exactly like it sounds on the studio versions.

Love from a true Metallica fan. \m/

  • @NilssonMannen agreed, a studio PRODUCED Version, in 1988!

  • For me, this is a shitty performance, no double bass as it should be, poor guitar solo. Metallica is one of the gratest thrash/metal bands ever, but you can see Megadeth, Slayer or Kreator, and they keep playing as good as it should be! Same speed, same power. Just look at the Death Magnetic disc and compare it with Kill em' All,.. and then listen to Slayer's World Painted Blood, or Megadeth's EndGame and do the same... compare the discs!

  • Metallica will remain the best band alive!

  • I really don't get people who thinks "metallica got old so you cant consure about their performance." have u ever watched any judas priest shows ? they have a guitar player like glenn tipton, and he's playing 200 rpm speed guitar solo (he has born in 1947) their drummer, scott travis is 50 years old and he still plays painkiller without a wrong. İ don't know man. I don't really get it.

  • i would press the "HQ" button if there was one.

  • they are humans like us, so they can make mistakes playing live concerts, I respect Metallica, greetings everyone

  • he didnt improvise, he fucked up, simple. i love metallica but this was weak as fuck

    mustaine still shreds as hard..

so as for getting old and touring lots

    bullshit

they sold out a very very long time ago.accept it and move on

    there still gods imo

    first 4 albums are untouchable

i dont want some gay ass internet fued so il leave it at that whether its 09 or 89 there still one of the biggest bands to walk the planet

  • 4:28 People seem a little bit upset and disapponted about your solo, Kirk.

  • Dyers Eve

    Battery

    Disposable Heroes

    Fight Fire with Fire

    Trapped Under Ice

    Blackened

    Metal Militia

    Whiplash

    there best imo

  • Why is it that on pretty much every Metallica vid on here that someone moans about them not being like they used to be. People change, they grow, they try different things. At least they've tried pushing a little, they may have failed at times, but at least they tried, unlike some of the others. Just because they're not that little band you carried around in your pocket back in '86 doesn't mean they are now shit. Move on, the rest of the world has.

    Let. It. Fucking. Rest.

  • 98 stupid people see this video and put hand down

  • Dyers EVE Babeh! xDDD

  • I see a double bass drum sitting there...and Lars is kicking ass on a stripped down kit. That shows the true talent. My question is, how come Metallica is the ONE band that people refuse to forgive? They are making a hell of a comeback effort. It takes timet to get back on top again. Every other band out there has had a lag in their carrer, and redefined themselves with open arms from fans. But Metallica, nobody gives a chance anymore. Why?

  • @journeyman2112 jealousy my freind....many ppl are jealous of metallica's acheivements over the past decades so its natural for them not to give metallica another chance

  • @journeyman2112 dude your an idiot if you have never noticed that lars uses double bass

  • @journeyman2112

Yes it is true that no one seems to want to forgive metallica for stuff like load reload and st. anger (even though at least load/reload where absolutely badass) when other like-minded bands get away with exactly the same if not even worse stuff. For example Megadeth never gets shit for cryptic writings and risk when these albums are clearly more mellow and overall different that the original hardcore thrash style.

  • @journeyman2112 don`t talk for everyone, i have allways liked them. i listen to aloooot off metal now, but metallica will forever be in my heart as they were the first metal band i started to listen to =)

  • @journeyman2112 Because they were so popular. We in the world hate anyone popular and cannot wait to dance on their grave.

  • @journeyman2112 he is right slayer had a huge hiatus and megadeth kinda did too at the beginning of the 2000s

  • @journeyman2112 they fell too low, they disappointed a lot, fortunately i still loving them. they were the best, nobody can deny

  • @journeyman2112 they fell too low, they disappointed a lot, fortunately i still loving them. they were the best, nobody can deny that

  • @journeyman2112 Because they really are an easy target

  • @journeyman2112 probably for the fact that they were and still are one of the hugest bands out there and when they put out St Anger everyone turned away because it wasnt the metallica they knew

  • @journeyman2112 cause they are jealous they know, we know what metallica was, is, will best bend ever :D

  • @journeyman2112 ....because it was the greatest band ever....

  • @journeyman2112

The speed is there but the double bass is not. Anyone with a musical ear can hear that he's only playing a quarter note every bars through the verse.

  • @journeyman2112 true, but just be glad, there are still peeps.

I wasn't so happy with the load/reload/ time, but saint anger was a step in the right direction.

death magnet is a milestone in metallica's discography. For me, they are back as they were never gone.

And it is great to see, they still dig out this wonderful song... always loved it!

  • @journeyman2112 they're dicks and its not me not giving a chance or forgiving them...lol i gotta ask for forgiveness for not being at least 16-18 in the 80s.

  • @journeyman2112 Because metal mediocracy will never forgive Metallica.

  • @journeyman2112 I am probably going to end up fueling the fire between Metallica/Megadeth fans, but I don't care. Metallica is the most successful band in terms of record sales and their ability to reach a mass audience--whether or not they are the most technically gifted of the Big Four is debateable, but they have a songwriting talent the others lack. I'm pretty sure most people don't care about Metallica's transgressions, but a lot of Internet nerds like to take shots at the guys on top.

  • @journeyman2112 I have loved them since 1985 and still do! Great question though!

  • i think metallica would replace robert trujillo...even kirk...but if something happens to lars he would never be replaced...hes the essence of MetallicA

  • Is this solo too fast for old Hammett? :D

  • man if I was Lars I would call out a fan in the crowd who really can play the drums then let the fan play for the shit he can't play no more at least it gives the fans the pleasure to share the stage with their idols

  • I love Metallica but I don't buy the age factor shit Exodus, Slayer and other old bands can still play their material especially SLAYER and they're even HEAVIER now than ever

  • @MRPric3LEss Umm.... HAVE YOU LOOKED AT MUCH TOURING METALLICA DOES COMPARED TO THE OTHER BANDS COMBINED?

Metallica tours like no one could.... two years maybe three years stright

    so you think before typing

  • @MRPric3LEss well neither slayer or exodus have done anything near as much as metallica, touring endesly, reinventing them selves all over again. No disrespect to the bands, but they have much breaks than metallica!!

  • everyone bitching about the performance. it's sounds pretty fucking good to my ear. These guys have been rocking for almost 30 years, and are far from their prime. At least they still get up there and hammer it out. if you don't like it, the back button is your friend.

  • I'm fine with him not playing double bass but it seems thoroughly retarded for him to have two fucking bass drums and only use one. Especially on a song like this.

    Downgrade your kit Lars!

  • @bigbowlowrong 2 kick drums look cool as shit though

  • @thecreshow stfu

  • @aatefmagic good call theyve been playing for more than 25 years, they should prolly stop if they cant keep up with real metal of today, stop living in the past you moron

  • @81RacOOn did i call you dickhead? No, so i wont even answer...

  • THEY NEED TO STOP PLAYING LIVE, NO DOUBLE BASS, BUT 2 BASS DRUMS HAHAHAH JUST TRYING TO LOOK COOL, SOLO BLOWS

  • In my book they kicked ass in this song like always i love metallica my favorite member is james hes amazing but they all whip ass and put metal up our ass so cut them some slack ok they are already planning on making a new album soon and its gonna be like garage inc i think i dont know if im right but they are already planning 2011 they got a head linging show in Rock in rio on September 25 2011 so i love you tallica please whip more ass all ur life :)

  • If anyone actually listens, you can hear double bass bursts. It's there. Ya it may not be constant like the studio but ummm he's like 50? Been touring since 1984 non stop and dealt with drug addiction? And you bitch about his double bass when he has thrashing high hat, snare and crash parts? Umm riiiiight....back off Metallica are Gods of Metal

  • @Freak2009 None of the band have dealt with drug addiction, alcohol abuse yes, drug addiction no.

  • @scootleberry haha...ummm did you ever see Kirk and Lars in the short hair emo phase? Ya total cocaine addict there for a short time. If you think that's just alcohol then i wanna know where they buy their shit cause it must be good.

  • Will some of you please stop picking the songs apart, shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. If you can't, please, go someplace else. Peace.

  • To put this against the CD track is offensive. Between the drums and singing. The riffs are solid but come on ....

  • CANT HEAR THE SOLO!!!!

  • wow, what happened kirk? sounds like the fuck ups you make when you play guitar hero

  • Wow.. I've never been so disappointed by Kirk with this solo. He usually does so much better.

  • 91 people are gay and do not understand james feelings >:(

  • @crazyboyxx Dude... being a good drummer is DEFINITELY not a degree of how good one's at double bass... it makes me chuckle when ppl like you think lars sucks... of course he's not the best drummer in the world but he's definitely not a bad drummer and all the drumming nowadays is only about the fastest double bass technique... lame...

  • he absolutely mucked that solo up. Holy god. Complete fucking shambles.

  • lol sounds so much heavier with the bass

  • Horrible solo!!!

  • ♥♥ Dyers Eve ♥♥

  • Perfect solo.

  • @thecreshow who cares dude its not like its the end of the world and besides i bet you couldnt even do that even if u tried

  • @JoNThEBeAnER1 are you really sure? i can criticize that solo because i can do it, otherwise i wouldn't be able even to say it's all messed up...

  • @thecreshow maybe he was tired xD

  • @Elkapok23 lol or maybe they should play dyers eve more frequently during their lives :D

  • @thecreshow so what dickhead

  • @thecreshow your probably much worse, in fact you can't even play the fucking solo so quit complaining

  • @StephenKingFan100 did i criticize you or kirk? kirk, so YOU quit complaining and YOU stfu for the comment you cancelled

  • @thecreshow he didnt messed up the solo he just improvised

  • @guitarmexikanguy it's not the thing, that he improvised, but that it sounds like he missed every third note. it sound's crappy at some points, but since I can't do it better, I'm happy with it

  • very sloppy playing by kirk..

  • Could be a lil tighter. Maybe memorize the words. I mean it's Metallica.
