I remember the Christmas my mom bought this Mad Dogs album for my sister. She played it all the time- it was awesome. I'll have to give her a shout out on FB.
It's really inspirational to view Leon dead in the ass kicking middle of his personal, and apparently somewhat effective, anti-heroin campaign. I mean, consume the supply and the demand goes away...right? At least that's the notion from the losing side of a nationally declared war my government declared on me.
Real.. Raw.. Rare.. Where did this come from.... I Saw Leon @ Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, CA, LIVE, more than once, .in the 70'S. Wish I'd been old enough to travel then.
To answer many-- Vocals: Joe Cocker, Don Preston, Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, Donna Washburn, Claudia Lennear, Denny Cordell, Daniel Moore, Pamela Polland, Matthew Moore, Nicole Barclay, Bobby Jones. Guitars: Don Preston, Leon Russell. Bass guitar: Carl Radle. Hammond organ, keyboards, piano: Leon Russell, Chris Stainton. Drums, percussion: Jim Gordon, Chuck Blackwell, Jim Keltner, Sandy Konikoff. Saxophones: Bobby Keys. Trumpets: Jim Price.
RockingrannyB. I'm not specifically a 60s fan as I love all good music, be it classical, jazz, folk, rock, ballads etc, but I stand by my claim that Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and indeed Jethro Tull
[ Ian Anderson] wrote some of the best popular music of the second half of the twentieth century.Modern pop pales by comparison.
Some of the most amazing rock ever performed. Either Chris Stainton or Leon Russel is playing the rocking piano. I'm 70 and seen it all. But late 60's and early 70's took the cake.
no no, I agree on Leon Rusell, but Joe Cocker also is increcible, one of the best albums later was unchain my heart, great dynamic sound and performance.
Two things..no, three! Did you notice Leons' eyes were sort of riveted on Joe?? Did you notice Joes' ears were flopping?? Did you notice how much fun we all were having???
God, I miss those days! There's been a LOT of good music since then, but not the same vibes. Look how much fun the backup singers are having. Young, high, with no idea what would happen to the world in just a few years. (Sigh)
I grew up dancing in the living room with my parents to this album... I love the energy and good times it conveys. Such a high moment in music-- rock and roll at it's best.
God, those were the days.... SNL and Belushi doing Joe and then Joe being on SNL with him. And of course, Leon of the beautiful fingers and beautiful hair and beautiful everything else I can see OR imagine... and absolutely tranquil amidst this chaos, havoc and sheer ARTISTRY! DELIGHTFUL ! Lovin it!
just a marvelous time! of course we had a lot of gras and pot. Today they have wodka and the whole galery of alcohol. So: better to have some marihuana and enjoy our life! And we had a lot of fun, believe me!! Wish the same to the young generation!
LOVE how it's all about the spirit and the music, not so much about how glamorous or fancy your clothes are. It would be nice to have more of that now.
@Mo19010100 fucking rights he is! i'm glad that there's still a few folks left in the world that appreciate the genius of leon. one of the best for certain.

Does the audience shot of the venue's interior show it to be Winterland? Perhaps viewers out Frisco way could let us know.

There would be no Joe Cocker without LEON. Leon Russell is an incredible musician and terribly underrated.
