I have never seen any of these Star Force episodes. This is incredible. Thanks for the subtitles. While I prefer the old music, this is still quite good. A little too much on the side of heartfelt emotions. Some of the scenes brought tears to my eyes
I haven't seen this since 1980!!! But, when I saw it, it was without the subtitles. I didn't know what was being said, but I figured out what was going on. After 30 years, it still looks as good. But, when we first saw it, it looked much better...
@Hesuku I know. :-) But it is a pity, for it would have made sense if he had just taken over the vacant throne and become soutou of the Dark Star Cluster.
@Restitutus Desslor was ambitious for the Milky Way Galaxy; Dark Nebula is too distant. Did you notice that he built his empire in a single year and then it collapsed in 2 years? Boy, Earth can never entertain herself with boredom in the Yamato world!
Yamanami did well as a Captain, in that he kept the crew on task, and stayed out of their way when they were doing their jobs. He deserves an honorable death.
Why was Yamanami even in this? We know nothing about him. All he ever seemed to do was tell Shima which direction to turn the ship. Why should his death be so melodramatic? Just seemed like a cheap way to get some add some drama.
You`re right. He is nothing special. But he is the captain of Yamato . And he is also excellent warrior as same as Okita and Hizikata. I think his death is so melodramatic because of them.
i dont know japanese but i should really at least take some basic lessons with my next door neighboor. it would make this so much more enjoyable. LONG LIVE SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO!!!!
A possible answer to the unusually high death toll in Yamato series: During the WW II, Japan had lost 2 million combatants out of her 8 million(that's 1/4 death rate). Such crippling situation for a whole nation must be hard to imagine for us outsiders, although we know different kind of pain. Only Soviet Union, China and Germany suffered more loss than Japan during WW II.
I guess I'm coming into the series with too much of a western attitude, but I just the death toll in heroes and innocent people in the Yamato-verse terribly depressing and heartbreaking.
You are right. But that's what happens in the war or real life in general: losing your loved ones right in front of your eyes. By the way, I think Yuki really shouldn't use the precious communication time for personal use here...
* Susumu to Sasha: "Do you really think I can do this, Sasha!?(shooting the enemy city with Sasha in it)" * Sasha to Susumu: "... Unless you shoot now, you cannot save Earth from this crisis. Uncle, I knew all along it had to be this way. I'm happy to die helping you out..."
I know. I meant the way they are willing to sacrifice their lives for another or a greater cause. Yamato is about sacrificial love, that's why the work is so great and beautiful. I'll always love Yamato.
why blond girls in blue suits always kick serios ass in Yamato series xD

Poor old Captain Yanamani He never really got a proper part in this He just sat back and watched the crew do their thing and died at the end...

Dessler is empire-building somewhere. Maybe biding his time to become Leader of Dezarium-Gamilus...

@Restitutus I'm sorry, but his empire is called Garman-Gamilus...

@Hesuku Did he build more than a device to decapitate Gamlan's previous empire government with? :-)
I don't know. My daughter and me have just begun with Season III. We will see what happens.

Probably a noble father-figure is essential in Yamato...

Sasha is great. She reminds me of Dessler from New Journey in her death here.

Dessler doesn't die though, he's a major helper in final Yamato, the last SBY movie.
