  • yeah but its still "glassy" like the x3 live. i have both but i do love the hd500 and grew to hate the x3live for this reason. i grew to really love my hd500 but i also do run a true by-pass pedal with it.

  • very fat crunchy sounds

  • How compatible is this with the front end of a guitar amp? Is this configurable into a "stomp box" mode, rather than preset mode? Can you either bypass the amp/cab models, or better yet, incorporate them as additional tones that work (well) with an amp's front end?

On first glance this looks like a studio pedal, not really for live unless you have lots of time to set it up and tweak it, or plan on going through a board instead of an amp.

  • @jerseystringer its great for both live and studio ive found

  • @compoundguy The reason I ask is that it doesn't appear to offer "stomp" or "pedal mode," that lets you turn effects on and off as you might with a discrete pedal board, or with the M13 for that matter. The pedal labels are almost cryptic, and seem to be intended solely for looping, while the effects are relegated to the bank/patch arrangement. This can get dicey when you're trying to switch quickly between effects on the fly. Comparing the HD500 vs M13, or just pedals. Which is best live?

  • @jerseystringer I have an HD 500, You can put it into Stomp Box mode. Don't worry about the labels. In stomp box mode, you can easily assign any parameter to the touch of a button. In fact, even the A B C D buttons at the bottom are stomp boxes as well for a total of 8 stomps, I only change patches when I first press the bank switch on the left. So, I stomp away as I'm playing, and then when I want to change presets I hit bank, and then the ABCorD switch to actually change the preset.

  • @ThatVaiGuy This is good to know too. Excellent information. Much appreciated.

  • @jerseystringer I pretty much only use mine live. I don't find I spend any more time with it than I do any of my analog gear, which is to say I spend time when I want to craft a new sound. There are options to set depending on if its used in front of an amp or direct to board, or even whether or not you're putting it in the effects loop only. If you have an amp with a loop I recommend the 4 cable method, but make sure you go into system and tell it you're using an amp there. also...

  • @jerseystringer Hook up a laptop so you can use the POD HD500 Edit software. it's really easy to use and will simplify the task of crafting new sounds. The biggest thing I find interesting is the sound difference when using 1 amp than using dual amps when both amps are the same. I mean, it's a completely different sound. I almost exclusively use dual amps because of how rich and thick they sound, but that limits my ability to use other effects, especially DSP rich ones.

  • @ThatVaiGuy Very helpful, thanks! The trickiest thing for me with these units is managing inherent compression in each patch, which can vary widely, if not wildly. Compression is hard to judge sitting in front of your amp. I can create the illusion of "loudness" that does not transfer well to a gig situation, where none of the other instruments are equally compressed. That is why I like "stomp mode." Once I have a patch that works dynamically, I can duplicate and modify, like the L6 M13.

  • all sounds good but what is the POD plugged into

  • timbre da porraaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Well,,good job out there..I'm gonna back to my pedals.

  • i can still hear the feedback from his high distortion patches, Is there anyway to stop it???

  • @majorstrings

    Add a noise gate.

Or, if you're using powerful pickups, eg. on a Gibson SG, try selecting Pad instead of Norm on the switch next to the expression pedal. :)

  • Cool demo, this guy is a great player

  • You clearly know how to use this thing better than most. I would not buy this expecting to plug it right into my live setup. It's going to take me a couple semesters at university to figure out how to get it all set up with tones I want to use.

  • That sound you got about 40 seconds in is the first HD500 patch whose tone I've really liked a lot.

  • Why only 16 amps?

  • @viperfishsasori You don't really need more do you?

  • this is interesting, I like the re-ordering. Too many multi-effects units only allow for one of each type of effect and in a fixed order. That's not why I want a multi, I can do that with pedals.

  • I had this for a week, and the DSP limits make me rage quit and bring it back. Still no issues with my X3Live tho.

Don't get me wrong, it sounded great, but.... double the DSP, and I'll jump back on board.

  • What kind of guitar?

  • are you plugged to an amp or directly into monitor speakers?

  • the lead sound is awesome man!! please tell me the settings to achieve this tone.

  • question about the looper: i press on the looper switch and then record. after i play it there is always a pause for a moment and then the looper starts and the same thing over and over again.how do i fix this?

  • Thank you so much for this video.. Almost all the Line 6 Pod videos all they play is metal.. I mean cm'on they buy a 400 dollar processor then only demo only one genre.. lol

  • This guy reminds me of Paul Riario.. Except this guy can actually play.

  • theres still ssomething missing...

  • @razorrick1293 Yeah, you're right. A ton of effects boxes at hundreds of dollars each, Expensive tubes that constantly need replacing, A boat load of cables, Hours and hours of technical troubleshooting, Switch boxes to reroute signal paths, heavy cabs on breakable caster wheels... Oh, and a boat load of cash to acquire it all and put it together. A $500 POD that does that all right out of the box, I agree, something is missing.

  • @razorrick1293 I could have said, the ability to use VSTs right from the board, third party vendor integration (think, the ability to buy a particular effect from a vendor, download it and add it to the POD), More DSP resources.

  • @ThatVaiGuy Im not a fan of a pedal board as full as possible with every effect you can think of, that just takes more out of the tone... only main ones you really need are wah, delay/reverb boost/distortion maybe an EQ, yet this set up isnt for everyone, everyones ears are different, and i will say, i used to love all the tones the POD stuff put out, until i started experimenting with the tones of true tube amps, that just dont need the processing to cover up they are a digital mess

  • @razorrick1293 drums and bass lol

  • @razorrick1293 Yeah, there are no guitarists these days as good as Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix. That's what's missing. Now go practice.

  • @JRCrowley I practise as much as i can, with nothing but my guitar, and a 7W 2 channel all valve amp hand wired and customized to get all the tone i want.

  • @razorrick1293 Sounds good. You should also just sit with an acoustic for hours, say 3 hours at a time, and play just that acoustic, over and over. You can't get any cleaner than that. And (usually) the best players can make an acoustic sound like sonic heaven. But there is nothing missing from this device, my friend... nothing except imagination, skill, practice and taste. A great player with skill can make this device EXCEPTIONALLY listenable. e.g. Chris Beaver /watch?v=z__yOcQOPXU

  • @JRCrowley thanks for the tip, but i think il leave the POD for now,

  • @JRCrowley There are probably thousands as good as, if not better, but the music industry has turned into a giant corporate money making machine with no need for talent, so they're still all stuck at home, posting on Soundcloud or Youtube with little chance of being recognised.

  • @razorrick1293 its called computer speakers

  • puxa alguem poderia colocar a legenda em portugues nesse video

  • I WAN ONE...

  • so freaking ORIGINAL!

  • If you run your POD through the effects in or power amp in section of your amp, you bypass the tone controls of the amp. I use a Bogner/Line 6 Spider 2 which gives me a real tube power amp sound and it works great clean or distorted.

  • is that stephen stills, scott pilgrim's band mate?

  • Hey i got a quick question. when you apply your amp mod what should be the settings on your amp(bass, gain, treble)?

  • I didn't know that the guy from Maroon 5 played guitar. Cool!

  • Hi, is possible to have more amp models like pod xt live? Models pack like Metal Shop, Classic Collector... Thanks.

  • @espforall Anything from the previous PODs works on the HD500 as far as I know as long as it's actually from Line 6.

  • @brandon5pennies, it doesn't, actually. Completely different sound processing model, I'm afraid :(..

  • I really like the "8-bit" kind of sound in the begining

  • dude get the stacked single coils and get rid of that hum i know the dimarzios are great

  • Hey I know this question might sound dumb but, on the display screen of the 500, which position is the pre and which is post?

  • @habba9 pre are all the effects behind the amp, and post is after the amp.

  • nice vidoe

  • Hey Dave, I recognised your guitar playing style at the start and knew it was you before you had introduced yourself :) Have always enjoyed your Line 6 demo's over the past couple of years. You have inspire me to practice heaps and most definitely love your crunchy blues style of sound and playing. Today I will be purchasing the HD500 and take advantage of the looper to practice my lead guitar can't wait :) many thanks for your video's, take care

  • will i be able to connect my line 6 spider 4 15w amp to pod hd500?

  • @hamzabinamin123 Yes, lead going from amp into POD, then POD going into guitar.

  • The HD500 is running direct.

  • Is this direct into a PA? Or is it going thru an amp?
