mine sometimes after it stops spinning fast at startup( working too hard perhaps?) makes this funny sneeze like noise like. KERCHEW. any ideas? No other symptoms but is alot slower then used to be. Dell inspiron 350S PC.
@grettagrids The "thunk" sound is probably bad sectors. You should run scandisk or chkdsk, depending on the OS level. Download a hard disk utility to determine whether it's a hard error.
@click4dylan2 Now you're telling me something different. How old is this hard drive? Because it seems like the bearings have aged so much that it's preventing the hard disk from reaching its full rotational speed
Sadly there is no sound that my HDD makes :/ its like a fast 7-8 clicks then 1 sec pause 1 click ... then all over again like a Morse code lol click is 1 pause is 0 ... so 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 ... the drive also spins up douse this and then after 60 sec spins down and Totally Stops :/

I have a WD caviar SE (WD3200JS) that makes a high pitched whine and won't spin up. it's not detected in bios. any ideas?
