How can you compare a f-450 to any 3500? First off the f-450 has 4.88 gears in it that gives great low end grunt. The chevy unless ordered with 4.10s comes stock with 3.73s. How can you deem that even close for a competition like this?????
@aj2007jj Anybody that complains about that is ignorant. The F-450 is in the same class as the 3500's. Instead of having an F-350 and F-350 dually, Ford has the F-350 and F-450. Same class, just built for better towing, so the ford being better isn't a lack of compatibility.

I own a 2000 F350 Supercab 4x4 longbed Lariat with the 7.3 Diesel and the camper suspension option. I bought the truck 4 months ago with 121K for $12,825.00, I have a total of $15,750.00 into it now after fixing it up. It pulls a car and trailer just fine. If I am gonna spend $55K for a vehicle it is gonna say BMW on the back, not Ford.
One thing that I didnt see the dodge do was chug a little black smoke. I know these newer trucks dont do it much but if your towing that much weight and giving her all shes' got.....she will show a little smoke. This video wasnt exactly the most objective, given it sounds like it was an ad for ford.

Google 2008 Chevrolet 3500 HD and tell me if it looks anything like you see in the video? It's at the latest a 2007 model. The Dodge could be an 08, but it could also be a 2007, which in 2007 both the 6.7 and the the 5.9 with the crappy 48re was offered. The Ford is a great truck, but is a pretty simple test of gearing.
@mirlin235 I believe there was a slight increase in horsepower and torque for the 08 model year, but still the GM 1-ton dually trucks didn't come with 4.88 gears like the Ford, they came with 4.10's at best. I don't think that Ford definitely would have won against the GM had it been equipped with the same gear ratio.....I think it would go either way, if not a draw.....perhaps the edge to GM due to the weight advantage.

It was a new F450, i.e. had much shorter gear ratios and more power relevant to the model years. Anyway, this is old news, the new trucks have been out for a year now.
The Chevy was an older model year than the ford. And this doesn't prove anything other than they can pay some guy to push the accelerator harder than the other.

I own an older (2007) Ram 3500 dually. I can say from personal experience that the performance is better than what being portrayed in this video. My only complaint would be mileage - ok for a HD diesel, but it could stand some improvement.

I don't get why they don't tow 20,000 pound trailers, it's always some 5,000 or 10,000 pound trailer even though they both claim over 20,000 pounds of towing capacity...
@arnoldt14 i do believe they do this to portray the trucks to the average consumer and not the consumer who actually maxes out the truck. im not dissing you so you know, its just not too many people tow more than 10k, most hover around 3k-10k on average. so they do 5k tests and 10k tests to show the consumer what their applications will perform like and not the extreme applications. thanks for your time and hope i told you what you wanted to know

@tinderinc No sir, yes it comes with a twin turbo, the second turbo only adds a small amount of boost to the main turbo to help it accelerate a little quicker with the heavy truck and engine. The ford weighs in at way more then all of them and has a towing capacity of 32,000 lbs which far exceeds chevy and dodges 6 cylinder.
@caddycoupe1021 dont you think that other turbo help makes a diffrence in the results of this test? What if the duramax had 2 turbos... I think the tables would be turned... yea ford does have a higher towering capcity.
@tinderinc I really doubt it, I own a 2010 F350, and the second turbo really doesn't make much of a difference, it's mainly to help it out because the truck weighs ALOT more then both of those trucks do, so it's definitely fair.

If you dont think a second turbo that helps get you off the line at a lower RPM wouldnt make a diffrence in the end results of this test? Conxcidering the grade is right off the line and the ford only wins by a small amount in the end. Not to diss them at all there new trucks are an improvement but I still like the old 7.3 it just needed a better transmission like a allison or better

It figures that Ford would have to use a smaller Chevy but the Dodge driver doesn't know what he's doing. I've hauled over 21,000lbs through the Colorado rockies with a 3500 with the 6.7 cummins and I had no trouble at all. On one trip I was hauling a Chevy Cheyenne with a steel flatbed combined weight with trailer was 10,000lbs and we I passed a Ford F450 pulling a little single axle horse trailer going up a hill ha ah he was pissed he got passed by a Dodge AND a Chevy at the same time! ah ah
I noticed the Dodge you put into the mix seems to be a 2006 which means its a 5.9 and not a 6.7 Cummins so really like to see it if you put them up evenly

why isnt Chevy's Super Duty tested with Fords Super Duty thats my question and this video was made before it came out so why dont they make another one?
I agree that they need to use a new dmax and new cummins not older models. Also that F-450 only comes with 4:88 (or 4:33 i think is the other option) rearends from factory. That is alot lower gearing than 3:73's which is what i would bet is in that dmax and cummins. My uncles 08 F-450 will only run 81 mph and is running high rpms. Probably should mention his first 08 was bought back by ford because it spent most of its life in the shop. Second one has had a few issues already also.

Chevy went with the new style in 2007 and Dodge has a clear headlight lens all the way to the bottom in 2007 already. The 2006 was the only year to have the orange reflector strip along the bottom of the headlight.

I own an older (2007) Ram 3500 dually. I can say from personal experience that the performance is better than what being portrayed in this video. My only complaint would be mileage - ok for a HD diesel, but it could stand some improvement.

@arnoldt14 i do believe they do this to portray the trucks to the average consumer and not the consumer who actually maxes out the truck. im not dissing you so you know, its just not too many people tow more than 10k, most hover around 3k-10k on average. so they do 5k tests and 10k tests to show the consumer what their applications will perform like and not the extreme applications. thanks for your time and hope i told you what you wanted to know

@tinderinc No sir, yes it comes with a twin turbo, the second turbo only adds a small amount of boost to the main turbo to help it accelerate a little quicker with the heavy truck and engine. The ford weighs in at way more then all of them and has a towing capacity of 32,000 lbs which far exceeds chevy and dodges 6 cylinder.

Conxcidering the grade is right off the line and the ford only wins by a small amount in the end. It figures that Ford would have to use a smaller Chevy but the Dodge driver doesn't know what he's doing. I've hauled over 21,000lbs through the Colorado rockies with a 3500 with the 6.7 cummins and I had no trouble at all. On one trip I was hauling a Chevy Cheyenne with a steel flatbed combined weight with trailer was 10,000lbs and we I passed a Ford F450 pulling a little single axle horse trailer going up a hill ha ah he was pissed he got passed by a Dodge AND a Chevy at the same time! ah ah

I agree that they need to use a new dmax and new cummins not older models. Also that F-450 only comes with 4:88 (or 4:33 i think is the other option) rearends from factory. That is alot lower gearing than 3:73's which is what i would bet is in that dmax and cummins. My uncles 08 F-450 will only run 81 mph and is running high rpms. Probably should mention his first 08 was bought back by ford because it spent most of its life in the shop. Second one has had a few issues already also.
