This is because MC was designed and created as a hollow character, that way anybody could become him in the game. He spoke very little and left all emotional ties with other characters open to the point that thier meanings and levels of depthness are left open for others to interpret. That way you not only control the character,

This type of character can only exist in games so that a 'host' can control them, other wise the movie would only be a bunch of seemingly random battles and absolutly nothing to do with any sort of character study or growth.
