O gosh why dont you guys just go on a pond and try tricks play games dont do this old fashon hockey is not learned like this in canada well maybe cross overs and sharp turns but if you wanna be like #99 gretzky go on a pond play games with friends make your own stuff up! Not all these twirls god man!
@The90srockfan im not hating on the video or americans! im just saying why dont we do it old fashon any more? and that all the great hockey players played on ponds most thier life.and i love ovechkin!
For all of you who don't know Victor, this guy played for Soviet Russia about 20 years ago at the international olympic level. He retired some 8 years before making this series of videos. That's why he's smaller than many hockey players because he trains them now.
@mastermobb93 u see anybody wearin t blades in the nhl??? also studies show that wearing t-blades makes u stare at crotches while u are in shower after game...so do the team a favor....buy tuuk. thanku.....lol!!!
@gruntwood ive been told by several pro skaters that i have the best stride theyve seen. I only started on ice about 8 yrs ago. Ive won way too many nationals on quads...just type in tony muse on 500m quads
At the beginning it shows like the American Flag, and its all patriotic, then all of a sudden this russian dude starts talking and the whole thing is focused on him hahaha
These drills teach you more about skating that just skating. And I'm willing to bet the drills need to be practiced over and over again on the ice. You don't learn to skate or play hockey on YouTube. The only reason I got better and better every season was because of the practice, drills and ice time I had. One of the biggest things in hockey is balance. Without it you have nothing. Mix that with some great foot speed and you're off to the races. And that is what this guy is focusing on.
He's a good skater, and if he was a bit bigger and could take a hit, he could incorporate these moves into a real game, but since he's smaller, he would just get destroyed doing that shit in a game.
None the less, he's still a good skater, but can he shoot? pass? recieve passes?
@gck5lions Wtf are you talking about? This guy is clearly a master at powerskating. No need to be that flashy but his demonstrations seem purely in game skating drills. Quick bursts, rapid turns, intense crossovers etc...
This is a good video but does not really teach anything, just shows you how good this guy is at skating.
IF YOU WANT REAL HOCKEY TIPS search for howtohockeydotcom and subscribe to the channel, I have learned so much from there and they always add more videos or go here /user/howtohockeydotcom

Wow you don't make sense. Why do you think players retire. Not because they are not good anymore, because they can't skate as fast and as well as they used too. They just can't keep up with the skating level in the NHL. There's always those poeple in beer leagues who have so much talent but never worked on their strength and skating that they didnt go far. Skating, Strenght and Physique are like 80% of hockey. What differenciates 1st liners from 3rd, now, is talent
whoever said this is sped up is a freakin retard, u can obviously tell that it is normal speed...by the flow of his legs and body movements, sped up it owuld look like he was superhuman, I know, Ive tried speeding stuf like this up...

Gretzky was a great skater. But he had great vision on the ice. He had the brains to make plays. But, I wouldn't call that positioning. Left wings stay on their side, right wings stay on their side. Not at all. I played WHL hockey (one step below pro) and I can tell you some of the most dangerous guys are like Georgui Joukov describes. Average to good skaters with amazing vision and play making abilities. Skating is useful, espesially acceleration and maneuverability for shaking defenders... but full out speed is almost worthless.... Except in races to a loose puck or things like that.
I just recently understood how to make the sharp turns. My best advice is to get low, lean over and try to touching the ice when ur making the turns and feel those edges catching. If you fall then thats a good sign, you'll build your confidence cause you won't be afraid of falling.

i just got my skates sharpend to 3/8. but i still feel like i cant make those sharp turns without some sliding. do you think its my technique?

I just recently understood how to make the sharp turns. My best advice is to get low, lean over and try to touching the ice when ur making the turns and feel those edges catching. If you fall then thats a good sign, you'll build your confidence cause you won't be afraid of falling.
