thanks i am building one in my backyard so i was just wondering for sizes but mine will be 16 by 16 but i think it will work if i move the ramp back and make it kick up more
I think we paid about $200. Might have been $300. It was all scrap and we got in good with a guy that worked at a foam place here in Charlotte, NC. The place is no longer open so we can't get that price anymore.
Hey man, Im going to build a foam pit at my cabin for snowboading in the winter and skating in the summer, but i am not sure on the dimensions. My drop in is about the same slope and hight (maybe 5' taller). Are your dimensions good or would you suggest a little bigger?
We spent about $500-$600 on it. We got most of the wood from dumpsters and scrap. The foam we got from a local company that was selling it as scrape so it was cheap.
Na, we had to tear it down and rebuild it (city code violation). In the middle of rebuilding it the guy who's place we were building it decided to move, so it never got finished.
We started it off at 12' high. we weren't getting the height and distance we wanted so be added 4 more feet to it. It ended up at 16' tall.
We got off really well with lumber. Went around and asked builders for scrap or left overs. Don't think we paid a thing for 2x4s. Some guy gave us a bunch of old crappy plywood. All we paid for was screws and a top layer of plywood and the foam.
Build a wooden box (size depends on what you are jumping into the pit...ours was 16 feet wide, 28 feet long, 4 feet deep) for all the foam to be in. Layer the bottom with mattresses. For the cheapest way...drive around your town/city and look for couches or other furniture on the side of the road. Take the foam out of the furniture and throw it in your pit.
I did a lot of the filming. At the beginning I'm the one in the red shirt. I'm the one that dropped in with the camera and the one doing the 720 at the end.
Got the foam from a company called Foamex. We built a big box out of 2x4s and plywood to hold the foam. I have no idea about how to keep it from freezing.
that looks like a lot of fun and good for training! me and my friends want to do something like that but we wanted something street skating like. using a tractor to dig about 12 feet deep and about 50 feet circumference and then put about 4 feet of foam in the pit and then put hand rails and ramps and a foam stair set going into it to practice street.
We are builders and we used scrap. So out of pocket we probably spent about $600. But if you were to pay full price for it probably somewhere around $3500.
Thats narly guys! Looks like a killer time, sorry to hear you had to move it somewhere else though. We would love a pit but its not in our budget so were using cardboard boxes just mainly for saftely. Its still being built
yeah...it was gonna be a sick halfpipe. Unfortunately we had to take the whole thing down because the guy moved. We've got another foam pit in the plans, hopefully up and running by the end of the summer.

is the foam expensive?
snowboard1993 3 years ago
It is if you buy from the sales people. We were able to get in good with a manager at the place we got it.
eleven04rails 3 years ago
If you're able to get your hands on some, make sure it's NOT memory foam. That stuff is not good for foam pits.
eleven04rails 3 years ago
Where did you get the foam for that thing?
regit811 3 years ago
There is a place just north of Charlotte, NC that you can buy scrap foam.
