i'm ashamed to say i've only ever had falafel at airport restaurants...it always sounds so good, but tends to come out greasy and flavorless. your recipe, however, is dangerously scrumptious. it makes me want to eat falafel daily. thank you so much! any thoughts why they might initially sink (stick to bottom) when i first put 'em in the oil?
@alihereatnu you may need to add more oil to fry them in. And yes they may sink to the bottom initially but then after a minute, you need to maybe give it a little nudge with a spoon and it should float to the top :) Oh and make sure your oil is hot when you add them, this helps too!
I am a full on foodie. After a recent trip to New York I was moved by the Hilal carts' fluffy and fresh filafel fried on site. Came home looking to duplicate and found your recipe. PERFECT. Pops with flavor and wreaks of fresh ingredients. I will subscribe and follow you. You are a goddess.
@litigiously thanks so much, i appreciate your support. Yes the halal food carts in NY are amazing :) Please check out my site as well and join my FB page for daily updates :)
Dede, I followed you falafel recipe tonight, and they turned out perfect. I am impressed by the quality of your instructions. I got concerned while grinding the beans because it seemed to have more moisture than the batch in the video, but everything turned out fine. I can't wait to try some of your other recipes. I think I'm going to spending a lot of time on your site. Do you have a recipe for fūl medames? Best wishes for all of your ventures!
Hi Dede! I made it and once I'd put the falafel ball in hot oil it broke apart and dissapeared !! I made actually one mistake in the recipe! I boiled the beans after soaking them like in Humus recipe.. :( was it the reason?
@suwan85 the problem is that you boiled them, you cannot boil the beans for the falafel. Try adding a few tablespoons of flour and bread crumbs to save your mix.
@dedemed I actually saved the mix by immersing the balls for seconds in the oil then I baked them! The form was not good but the taste was nice :) ! thanks a lot!
Awesome! A pilot! The graphics look really great. The lighting looks a bit yellow on my computer; maybe it hasn't been color-corrected yet? Anyway, congrats! Hopefully, you'll be picked up by the Food Network or PBS!
hello dedemed im in love with all your videos i had been going crazy trying to get the falafel right just to wet. cause i was using can chickpeas but now using bag if i cant find peeled Fava beans can i use with skin on and if i dont want to use fava beans do i use the same amount of chickpeas to replace the the fava beans thank you , i cant wait to see you on tv
I was watching wimp.com and they showed a guy flipping falafels in a bag. I looked up what it was and I cant wait to make it! It looks delicious. I love mediterranean food, gyros and hummus. yummmm!!!
OK, I made my falafel... I didn't have fava beans.. Maybe I should had follow DedeMed recipe just as she did it.. I'm going to settle for some Falafel at the Labanese Restaurant downtown.. Because I'm craving them now!
Congrats!!! I"m going to make these tomorrow. I already prepared my bag of chickpeas, What cable channel are you on? I'm going to make your pita bread to!!
@dedemed I assumed that, I'm in the middle of mixing it all up for a dinner I'm hosting. It's gonna be great, falafel, lemon tahini sauce, naan bread with serrano and garlic labneh... CANNOT WAIT.
wow, this looks exactly how the people at Abrakebabra (in Wellington NZ) make them, and I thought it was some secret, protected recipe! I can't wait to try to make these!
It's great that you are moving forward and getting more popular. Middle East food is flavorful and you have great receipes. My family has always enjoyed various foods wheather I made cacik or lasagna.
Very nice. Its the first time Ive used raw chickpeas and fava, that makes a huge difference! I skipped the baking soda and baking powder, and added whole coriander and cumin seeds to the mix for a little snap. Thanks so much!
awwww haha ur adorable! do u have ur own cookin show? and i live in california...do they havve falafo,,....or how evr u call. so ddo they have falfo in california?
@Summerluver100 Yes, you can get some falafel in Anaheim, San Francisco, West Hollywood...there is a lot of places, just check online or got to my site, get the written recipe and just make them at home :)
@Daisy24 a good substitute is to use crushed gluten free crackers or toasted gluten free bread. You need to use a grain or carb that will help to bind the mix. I also use flour as a binding ingredient but you don't want to use more than 2 or 3 tbs of flour b/c then the dough gets to thick. I hope this helps, let me know if you have anymore questions :)
i love ur videos ...do u have a show on tv? cause if u dont u need to have one. ur really good...there is this channel called fatafet in the middle east its like food network. u should contact them and see if they hire u , ...luv ur recipes

If you freeze the falafel, make sure you freeze the falafel dough before you add the baking soda. Remove the dough the day before you want to use it so that it completely thaws out. Next add your baking soda, let it stand for 15 minutes then fry away :) the written recipe is on my site as well.

You can bake them for 25 minutes at 450 degrees, make sure to spray them with olive oil spray to get them crunchy. Yes you can use an ice cream scoop, great idea :)

Hello Dede i just had a quick question
When i did the mix for the falafel, i made them into balls like you said but when i put them into the oil they fell apart.
Do you know why that might be?
Thanks
hamarshahy 5 months ago
@hamarshahy yes this is typical, it depends on the moisture of the beans. Try adding a few more tablespoons of flour and bread crumbs.

@Str8pimp07 just break it into portions, it will taste the same :)
