Single cuts sound great and they are punchy as hell. They are also ugly as hell :-) we as bass players should not hate on anyother guy or gal who plays. It's a blessing to be able to play in the first place. To all who hate all bass players who emulate Jaco-esqe lines just think of how many sax players were encouraged by Charlie Parker or Coltrane. This gives you a clue as to Jaco's legitmate place in the history of the electric bass guitar. We have Jamerson and Jaco. History will decide

@4strings4me - I've seen many of the top players of the 60's and 70's right up to the current days, Mingus, Duvivier, Brown, Heath, Pettiford, Pedersen, Jaco, Clark, Bruce, Squire, Lake, McCartney, etc...,etc.... and Kennedy, many of them live as well as recorded, so I have listened to plenty of music, thank you. Anybody ripping this solo apart must be watching and not listening. This is one of the most inspiring solos I've heard in a long while. It makes me want to grab my bass and let it rip. @Zombbg4 I wouldn't - I've come to firmly believe 'technique' is a highly individual thing - anything goes if it works for the player and does not stress the body and cause injury.

There are so many cats that are more complete bassist. You need to listen to a bit more music. Nothing about his approach is original. My I suggest you list to Anthony Jackson. Any of his recordings should do. Also Alex Al is more diverse in approach. Tom's pretty good at one style.

The body style is called a singlecut, not to be confused with the single cutaway guitar design (as found on a Les paul). I think it's supposed to be ergonomic of something. plus, I'm sure all that extra wood adds something to the resonance.

@MrIlvis sure, everey bass player has some few licks wich are heard in most of their solos and this is what a good recall value makes. toms solos always have a recall value not because of the licks (which are definitely not always the same) but rather how he plays the notes. his solos are always awesome....AND.....they sound fantastic most of the time. so.....why shouldn´t he feel any of the notes, whereby the solos in itself always sound different ???

Good bassist, but don't get me wrong... too much notes, awesome technics, but poor patterns and even less "feeling". Music is not all about technics. Wooten, for exemple, has way more technics and still can play with a lot more feeling than Tom Kennedy, IMHO.
