  • thats just so awesome.

  • THE CAMARA SYNCH ON THE SCREENS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Rush never did drugs? Are you familiar with A Passage to Bangkok?

  • @groucho66 Exactly, thank you.

  • @TheEpicImpaler I think zxcv1234vcxz means hard drugs like cocaine, meth or heroin. Not pot.

    But whatever floats your boat.

  • West Palm Beach - Cruzan Amph.

  • I'm seeing them in a few weeks in Dallas. I can't wait.

  • The full song is a lot longer haha, but this is a cool part of it. I'm going to their next show. Snakes and arrows was a great show!

  • Gonna see these guys August 22nd, I'm stoked!

  • This is easily their best instrumental since YYZ, not to mention one of Geddy Lee's most infectious bass lines ever. Should've been a LOT longer than just 2 minutes though.

  • malignan narcisism... talk about the thing of Erich Fromm??

  • Wow, that's the Rush I know and love right there. I applauded at the end of the song. Thank you for the post, well done, particularly on the sound!

  • misread that as didacts and narpets

  • Was this the concert in Saratoga, NY on July 5 at SPAC, because I was there, it was freakin' sweet.

  • I was there too, amazing show

  • nice seats

  • Is this at the Comcast center? If it is, then I was there. Best show ever.

  • im going to a rush concert June 14th!!! 9th row!!!!!

  • Geedy using Fender Jaco! Amazing!

  • 0:04

    "This is motherfuckin awesome!"

  • i love how on the snakes and arrows tour they had chicken roasting where geddie's old amps were. now because they have wireless amps they always fill that space up with somethin

  • It's a joke by Geddy, look up his gear on Rush . com you'll see the hen house. Its where he gets his tone ;P

  • man, i going to go see them in concert in may and im sooo excited! this song is great. hope they play it :D

  • what row was this? like 22nd?

  • i prefer geddy lee , alex lifeson, and neil pert

  • I prefer Steve Vai and Joe Satriani...

  • Why aren't these guys in the rock and roll hall of fame?????

  • Because they are too good.

  • it could be cause they're Canadian...?

is the hall of fame just for Americans? i doubt it but it's the only reason i can think of...

  • No, it's because Rush never did drugs, never pandered to the media, never tried to be fashionable, never got divorced, never beat their wives, never treated the media or fans like shit, never drove drunk, never shot guns at people, never used profanity on a record, never etc. etc. etc.

They just played and wrote good music while acting like civilized human beings. For that, you get punished.

  • Sadly, that is true. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just a bunch of fanboys promoting their favourite bands.

  • Best comment ever.

I like the part NEVER DID DRUGS.

    NEVER DID DRUGS.

That's why they are so successful

    DRUGS SUCK

I'm serious. I'd hate to have anyone think I'm joking.

Drugs are bad. Science has proven it.

They're gonna stay together forever, because there's no alcohol/drugs to cloud their vision. Unlike a lot of other famous rock bands...

  • Listen to a passage to bangkok although i don't consider marijuana a drug

  • lol bankok ftw, but it is true that they have stayed a lot more normal than most other rock bands who are still touring

  • You can't NOT consider marijuana a drug. Drug defininition-A substance that changes the way the body functions, I. E. Nicotine, Caffeine, Alchohol, MARIJUANA.

  • uh dude, back in the 70s they were big stoners lol xD they would ask ppl to throw joints on stage instead of bottles whenever the ppl threw shit to annoy them lol

  • who RUSH? i dont think so

  • sarcasm? if not ur an idiot if u think they were stoners...

  • they werent stoners but i guarantee u that they did drugs at some point. not excessively but who hasnt back then?

  • @zxcv1234vcxz

"A journalist once told me it seemed to him that not only had Rush stayed together so long, but we had also avoided the usual problems with personalities, alcohol, and drugs that brought down so many of our peers. I told him, 'well, it's not like over the years we haven't been everywhere like that- we just didn't stay there!'"

Rush did do drugs, and in some cases wrote songs about them, as in A Passage to Bangkok, or Tom Sawyer.

  • @Darktree512

quote was from Roadshow by Neil Peart, BTW. Page 54

  • @zxcv1234vcxz How in the F do you know they never did drugs, or any of the bullshit you just spouted?

  • @BiccusD - If you can't handle anyone disagreeing with you, kill yourself.

  • @zxcv1234vcxz What are you, 10 years old?

  • @BiccusD Awwwww, scared that he's a bit older than you?

  • @alexo773 I'm scared that I know that we are all the same age really.... and alot of other things that would blow your mind.

  • @BiccusD Watch their DVD and it tells you that. They actually did smoke some pot but as Geddy said it slowed them down so they decided to concentrate on the music. And viola "RUSH" as we know it today. How many breaking news stories have you heard from Rush band members. NONE. Theirs your answer.

  • @cappellifiore What about Alex's fight in 2003 at some Florida hotel?

  • @Rush3524 Dang, forgot about that. Good call bro.

  • @zxcv1234vcxz FINALLY, someone else who knows what a peoples group they are.

  • @zxcv1234vcxz They definitely did drugs.

  • I'd love to know the answer to that as well. But regardless, these men rock rings around just about anyone. To see the guys live on stage is absolutely unforgettable.

  • They do belong there indeed, although it may not be worthy of them :)

    Look at rushhof dot com

  • I agree snakes RUSH hands down. They simply mastered their instruments, and shared it with the world!

  • at :51 is that a line from "Team America: World Police"?

i think it is but i could be wrong.

  • yea, it is, they are all big fans of trey parker and matt stone

  • sweet, i love rush even more now. heh..

  • the best trio performing a non-singing non-zydeco song goes to : the envelope please

    watch?v=X94B2qK-hnA

  • I checked it out, the Police are good but I'm afraid Rush wins hands down, look how much more material they have, especially decent material, and they are still going strong after 30+ years, sorry to burst your bubble but Rush kills it!

  • the best trio performance ever is RUSH

  • you can´t compare Rush with that shit,,,

  • ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush

  • Congrats on the Grammy Nomination! RUSH has been nominated for a 2008 Grammy in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance category for "Malignant Narcissism." Congrats to the boys!

  • it's not a friggin backer, it's a restless and fearless , take a look down.

  • Geddy wears some funny shirts in concerts

When I saw him in Charlotte he was wearing an Chicago Bears shirt

He sure does know how to work that Jaco

  • This is a great clip!

  • i think its the unfretted version

  • like beyond beneath and beyond truth, trying to define excellence, flying like abuzen net emoticon in the buzzen realm, such as (bh) , Socrates?

  • Would that bass be a rickenbacker?

  • nah, regular Fender J Bass.

  • what does it mean freatless bass?

  • without frets. It's like a double bass, only its electric and played horizontally. It allows for a nice legato slide up or down the neck. Sounds REALLY good. It also has its other pros and cons vs. a fretted bass.

  • it means teatless girl

  • neigh for u to i think i think its a jaco pastaruoreis (or however his name is) tribute bass

  • Yeah it definitely is. I saw them live and when he pulled out jaco's bass I went insane.

  • Yep, I own the same guitar - it's the Custom Shop tribute. At least they built his with the right knobs. :-)

  • the bass is fretted version fender jazz bass jaco pastoruis tribute.

  • yeah justhi10 and me went to this concert we were standing like right there hahahah

  • Lol I swear I was right next to you! If not I was close!

  • Lol I swear I was right next to you! If not I was close :)

  • That fretless bass shows you how bad-ass Geddy Lee is.

  • <3333Geddy!<33333

  • Geddy is a Bass God. With Jazz Bass, Rick or Wal... He is a monster!

  • waht the hell is a wal? i kno what rick and j bass is but wut the hell is a wal?

  • go Watch "A show of hands" concert. he uses his WAL mk 1 bass I believe. its a British made bass no longer manufactured at the moment.

  • is geddy actually using a fretless?

  • yeah

  • yup a jaco fretless

  • ok, i;ll tell neil i love the screens. yes master, take a look down take a look down.

  • its funny that he uses a Jaco

  • I saw these guys just last night...

    BEST SHOW EVER!

  • It seems(?!) like Neil Peart is improvising alot along to this track..

  • i think he is...when he made the track he only had a basic drumset so i would improvise too..you go all those tools to work with with..why not use em

  • Maybe it's just cuz it's such a cool song to improvise along to..

  • driven to the margin of erroneous guufass, yes, let me win the jaco, on a pastoral plane, a linear transgression model. or not.

  • its a fretless, look at 1:22 and pause it. you see how shiny and smooth the neck looks, no frets whatsoever. that is the fretless jaco pastorius jazz.

  • I went to the concert, and I can safely say, that bass had no frets, just the dots.

  • no Noffyiscool is right. becuase you cant make a fret less bass get fret noise. like geddy's tone obviously has. therefore your wrong. yes geddy does use a fretless jaco on this tour, but he also has a fretted version of it for this song specifically.

  • what? he's playing a fretless right there, as he used on the album for this song. maybe i missinterpreted what you said. if so, please ignore me

  • Actually, you can - a lot of fretless basses (like the Fender Jaco model that Geddy uses) have a polyurethane coating that is hard as glass, and with bright steel strings (like the Rotosound roundwounds that Geddy uses) plus an aggressive right hand technique (like Geddy does) will get you plenty of zing, and nobody will notice you're playing a fretless unless you start playing it to make it sing.

  • The ladies voice was off a little bit. But still very good!

  • wtf thats not a fretless bass

  • yeah it is...

  • it is not fretless, Geddy asked fender to make him a fretted Jaco tribute bass since he doesent like playing fretless

  • The fretted is his "just in case bass" for this tune.....He has, and has been playing the fretless. He has been quoted as saying it wouldn't be right to not play the fretless.......

  • those arent frets, they are fret lines. it shows where the spacing is so you arent out of tune

  • just because you can "see the frets" doesn;t mean it's not fretless...... :)

  • Yes it is, just like Harrisfan said. It is a "Jaco" bass..look it up. The Rick was great for Bangkok, I almost passed out!!

  • There's two Jaco basses: The Jaco Fender Jazz, and the Jaco Relic. Ged's on that later, which is made to be an exact replica of Jaco's beat up fender.

  • great post , thanks ,I'd love to see, this live.

  • God, how can be the people be so quiet and steady with that song in front row?

  • Yes, I admit it - I am Malignantly Nacissistic !!!

ROCK ON BOYS !!! THE SONS OF CANADA !!!

SEE YOU ALL ON THE 20TH OF JULY - THE WHITERIVER AMPHITHEATRE !!

JUST LOOK FOR THE CANADIAN FLAG !

  • these guys suck.

How dare they try and be like Rush! :P

    jk

  • Best Cover band of all time

  • best cover, wtf should that mean?

  • Delorean was joking and said "How dare this band try to be like Rush" and I replied, or I should have replied *If they are a cover band, they are the best cover band of all time* As a joke, haha. I fuckin love Rush, I was just having fun with Delorean's original Joke

  • i got to see them at darian lake finally and they played everything so tight, that had to be the best ive ever seen them play, their isnt a word to describe how awesome they played........ GO RUSH!!

  • Sound Acvice Amph in WPB does not seem to have a problem with small digital cameras. I always hide it going in the gate though just in case.

  • are you allowed to bring cameras in to the show?

if so im gonna bring mine

  • Geddy is badass on that fretless bass.

  • high tweety bird, nice stomach

hate to see you using all those performance enhancers

    i love natural

  • Smmmmmmmmmmmmmoooooooooookin' as usual.

  • love this tune

  • This was one of my favorites. The SOny DSC-P100 camera captured the sound pretty well!!!! My neck still is tight from hold the camera up with my right hand but it was worth the pain....LOL

  • LOVELY! :D

  • Nosss...
