  • how did you do this when the turbo system is a recirculating one? i'll bet the engine management light is on

  • OMLord for sure compressor surge. I feel bad for the engine.

  • thats compressor surge. not good for your turbo. sounds good though. 1999 saab 9-3. 3" jt complete exhaust, open air intake, bov, removed turbo baffle, shortshifter. thats a fun car

  • just good team wor spyker and saab together... 2 car brands that both went down cople times, but also both make great cars.

they should be the ferarri and the mercedes of the world

  • SAAB is rid of GM and will now start to build quality again!

  • i have 2005 9-3 saab in black the turbo is great

  • I HAVE A 1998 SAAB 900SE AND ON THE BLOWOFF VALVE THEIR IS A LITTLE HOSE YOU TAKE THAT OFF AND ITS MAKES THAT SOUND BUT ITS BAD FOR THE ENGINE SURRRGEE

  • You could definitely benefit from some prothane engine mount bushings. Great vid. btw!

  • @gluemanred Polyurethane? Haha.

  • i can trade my lincon for a car like that 1 but my dad doesn want to :(

  • OMgosh i love the sound of that turbo!

  • I wouldn't trade my 99 9-3 Turbo Convertible for the world.

  • thats compressor surge not bypass valve chatter.. :P ive got a 900 se turbo, great cars.

  • the dude sounds like borat. yes?

  • sounds like surge to me... not boost

your fucking up the turbo like that

  • sounds like surge to me... not boost

  • The spring in your bypass valve is too heavy... the blow off surge sound you are hearing is really really bad for your compressor... meaning that it cant overcome the spring pressure which is why you get that flappy sound when you let off. Although it sounds cool... its about the worst thing you can do for yout turbo system.. It should be a smooth air release.. Trust me.. Ive had saabs for a long time

  • Soontobecocker. Its a dame lay that GM made SAAB better.Ive been driving SAAB since 1979,now i have a 2002 9-3,and thats teh whorst car i ever had.

  • saabs are similar to to volvo's in someways because they doo feel a little sweedish in the layout and design, but the build quailty is where saab is let down, by gm that is, just like a vauxhall :,-(

  • Compressor Surge? it sounds like the intake bypass valve isn't doing it's job. or is there a completely closed BOV somewhere in that system that's playin' bully to the turbo? it sounds to me like the latter is the case. i'm honestly curious, so please do tell!

  • Comment removed

  • hahaah gut one

  • sounds like bov is disconeted and stalling turbo.

  • this is B207 engine same as Z20NET both GM codes.

Is there any modifications on this motor...I hear funny overboost noise

  • @bmw740ilowner the SAAB will beat you in any race while driving reverse.

  • that guy sounds funny. Indian DADY DADY

  • How much Boost? I have a Friend who is running 14PSI I can't wait to get my turbos installed on my car so I can get payback lol.

  • I get on here to see a Saab and all you people are bitching about shit box neons and v6 stangs what the fuck. Take that to the ricer forums

  • What is all modified on this car? I want that sound soooo bad, please let me know thanks!

  • @schamsy32 just get a greddy type-rs bov and youll get that sound...

  • @schamsy32 Dude, you do not want this sound. It's the sound of the air bouncing back to the turbine. It could cost you a new turbo.

You probably have a loose vaccumhose or something.

  • is this car reliable, fast, and good on gas cause i was thinking of getting this as a first car.

  • dude tht sounds like shit saab sucks asss lol i have bmw 740il and its stock it sounds a lot better then tht and my bmw 740il will smoke tht shit any day lol

  • @bmw740ilowner and how long were u on ur knees b 4 u got the car?

  • That "Very scary!" part at the end sounds just like borat!

  • I agree with winepot and that ''POS'' vashthethird that u refer to is actually a great car believe it or not.this POS can

easily challenge the porsche 911 and probably win STOCK and with little mods i beat those rice buners all the time though i could admit lost one race with a viper he had more engine ALOT lol

  • That chatter is turbo "bark", means your blowoff valve is not set properly, that sound will eventually distroy your turbo.

  • @nitriz04 Are you some kind of tool? The wonderful "chatter" noise you hear is not the bov/wastegate/dump valve or anything else like that. It's just compressor surge, it's perfectly safe and it doesn't "distroy" your turbo or limit it's working life.

Buy a Haynes manual. You'll love it. There's even pictures.

  • lol @ modding a slow stock POS like this?

    What's wrong with you?

  • It's modded?

  • @vashthethird hahahahahahaha ur dumb. u say "stock" like you shouldn't modify stock cars. if no one did that, ther would be no modding. I bet you drive a mustang v6.

  • @samsamsamsamsamaaaaa lol pwned

  • @samsamsamsamsamaaaaa ok, now we go to bashing mustangs? go park your grandmas neon dude and shut the fuck up. i have a 99 mustang v6 that i love it, and i smoke gts with it all the time, n/a. so why dont you shut the fuck up.

  • @cody99v6 if you think you beat GT's in an N/A 4th gen v6, they weren't really racing you, probably just laughing at you, Like I am. What if my grandma had an SRT-4 neon? You wouldn't have shit.

  • @samsamsamsamsamaaaaa, i have a 99 mustang v6 with a 4.2 stroker, cai, dyno tune, pushing nearly 270 to the wheels so lets see your 250 hp neon.

  • @cody99v6 lol I dont have a neon, i was just saying. and if you modified your crankshaft for higher displacement, that's a totally different story than a stock v6 mustang. Any car can be made fast with modifications. Nice job, now slap a supercharger on it and get rid of all the extra weight u can if you want a real car. I bet you're not even into the 13's yet.

  • @cody99v6

I had a 300 hp neon =) Srt4's can be beast....much more beast! Until you hydrolock the motor and then buy a 98 vw to get you by for the next 8 months until you get a saab with boost =)

  • ok slut look at my saab and tell me its a pos

  • I remember that sound... the sound of 3000 dollars...

  • Bullshit. The turbo was 8 years old (160000 km) and the gearbox is as good as new. It's my third Saab - the best car ever !

  • I love Saab, not GM. GM went and turned the Saab franchise into a bunch of worthless Pontiacs shortly after their acquisition. Hopefully the Saab name can rise again under new leadership :) Yay Saab! Boo GM...

  • With the super new Saab 9-5 I think GM will never sell to either China or Russia or some company with much Russian influence like Spyker. They wont give away that new technology they have put down in the new Saab just like that. I think the only way GM will sell is if they can keep the new 9-5 to themself and turn it into an Opel or something.

Afterall, GM would be pissed if it turned out the new 9-5 would be a best seller and they would get caugh with their pants down.

  • @TheRealOneEye your an idiot GM made saab even better

  • @soontobecocker hahah omg you´re so funny.....even GM thought that they sucked so they decided "throw away" Saab, but Spyker got it. who´s the "idiot" now???

  • @soontobecocker Soontobecocker. Its a dame lay that GM made SAAB better.Ive been driving SAAB since 1979,now i have a 2002 9-3,and thats teh whorst car i ever had.

  • @TheRealOneEye well your dream now come true, Saab will start using BMW engines (hope those low pressure turbos are still there)

  • @scagliettileopard really ? im very interested , where did you read that ?

  • @TheRealOneEye Your right. GM is garbage, and they have no business even BEING in business. I disagree that all Saab's after GM are bad. I have a 2003 Vector, and that thing is a beast.

    Peace!

  • @brian8793 obviously you haven't heard of corvette zr1 (or nay other vette) or the cadillac cts-v. well they are both made by gm and are phenomenal cars !

  • @waaasobe Yeah right! GAS HOGS. Over priced. No room. Don't give me your bullshit. If GM made good cars, they wouldn't have needed a bailout.

They couldn't even make it when times were good! They're fucked. WE'RE FUCKED.

    FUCK GM.

  • @brian8793 that is all very true. im thinking sports cars. you have to admit the zr1 and cts-v are brilliant !

  • @TheRealOneEye Hey, Pontiacs are not worthless asshole. I like Saab, but i could care less for fucking GM. Pontiac kicks ass, since its birth and to her grave. They will always be performance machines.

  • @The1FastGP i wish pontiac was around just for the g8, now that was a car!

  • @waaasobe Yes it was, even if it is based on a Holden. Then again, GM owns Holden so technicaly the G8 is GM.

  • @The1FastGP if i was to buy a g8 i would end up making it look the commodore lol

  • @waaasobe -.-

  • @waaasobe The Pontiac G8 is the only car I like. Figures they would get rid of it.lol

  • @brian8793 i totally agree, the only thing is, i would want to make my g8 into a holden

  • @TheRealOneEye Whatever, GM gave Saab one of the best 4 cylinder engines ever built. An Ecotec. Everything else basically stayed the same as what Saab would have done otherwise.

  • first, the logo of Volvo is terrible xD

  • That is something I can agree with however. But heck Saab still is a shit car that always breaks.

  • ohh ! saab well gooooooood cars

    upload another video but

acelerate about 5000 rpm and it'll sounds good

  • had the same problem in mine, the valve was rusted shut. free to replace with the warrenty

  • nice car man! i have the same car same color. what kind of intake do you have on there?

  • Do it Von more time lmao

  • It's fine, it's normal on an auto tranny car with a recirculated CBV. Does the same thing on my 850 turbo when I brake boost it. People are too use to hearing BOV's and never get to hear factory turbo cars. All factory turbo cars use CBV's.

  • My replacement of a turbo was 1200€, Official service wanted for replacement 2500€. Turbos are expensive

  • you need to get this looked at. Saab turbos are very expensive to replace; I know from experience.

  • thats compressor surge dude thats a very bad thing

  • that doesnt sound very good hehehe

  • im gonna laugh when your turbo breaks... that isnt a good sound at all... get that checked

  • that is compressor surge... question is does the car even have a blow off valve because saab's are designed to re-route it back into the intake, you would need a dual vent blow off valve

  • VERY SCARY! Sounds like borat

  • I hate to burst your bubble mac, but that sounds awfully like compressor surge, not a bov - and that's a bad thing

  • That's what I was thinking. Sounds exactly like it. I know nothing of Saabs, but this doesn't sound good at all.

  • we have a saab buh not the turbo were gunna get a bmw next

  • hell yeah , thats what i'm talking about, go BMW!!

  • i love my saab. i revved the engine the other day to 6000 RPMs tapping the gas pedal. this is a very fast car. fuck the peeps that complain about minor issues they have that people can fix at home. my stick shifts knob came off. all i did was glue tht SOB back on. this is an awesome car.

  • awsome i have one of those but its black its fast

  • niice

  • the dude talking sounds like Borat, and you need a new or at least adjustable bypass valve.

  • very scary!

  • that sounds sick bro

  • that is the intake you fuck faces....

  • nope turbo. i have one too but sounds better lol

  • wow cool sound but a bit weird

  • Sorry.....for everyone, I am the same guy in this video.....I have more videos of this car on my page. Me and my cousin share eachothers accounts, that is why that video is on his account, and more vids are up on mine.......thanx

  • hey please tell me how you got that grille.. sikk as fukk

  • I made the grille myself....If you look REAL close in person, you can see its not a great job, but from just a couple feet away and further, it looks good. If that one gets messed up or something, i will put more work into it, but for now it works.

  • How Much HP?? PLEASE REPLY

  • Honestly.....an intake doesn't do a whole lot. The Saab intake is good to around 250-300hp....and stock to the wheels, my car has 158hp. So with an intake 160-170hp.

  • its turbocharged... unless you get an ecu upgrade the turbo is still gonna suck in the same amount of air. just sounds dif...

  • is this the 2003? If so, have you had any problems with it so far? I just bought one and here lots a things about it. It scares me a little. Please let me know. Thanks!

  • As a Swede grown up with Saabs i newer get tired of the sound of a blowoff valve. I do pray to god that in these times Saab will survive bacause they make awsome cars and i really love them!

  • it's purgin while under boost, it'lll havw pshew purge under full boost

  • And: You're exhaust note sounds good... the narrator sounds like borat. veeddyyy scarryyy haha, priceless

  • That sounds un-good... like you're car is trying to puke up it's boost. With a Trionic 8 you probably have a bad DV. I would doubt you're in LHM/ threw a CEL but, the ECU is probably limiting you a pretty good amount and getting it replaced would be in your best interest.

  • just drove a Saab for the first time the other day and was very impressed for what it is. I love that chutter :)

  • Clearly a ECU cut off of some sort

  • Sort-of, If you hold the brake and then push the gas, the transmission has a torque converter, which lets it only rev so far. In this case 2,300-2,500 RPM's (This is my car, just posted under this account which is an account me and my cousin use)

  • Have you modified something on it ? I had a customer who wanted a BIG turbo put in. It was ok on the start but as soon as you pushed it too hard the engine would cut off and reingnite. Turned out the ECU could not manage the surge of power with the new turbo...

  • Mine is completely stock in this video, except an intake. Currently I switch between the stock intake and a custom one, but also have a manual boost controller. The stock ECU is set to only allow 14psi max (I'm not sure how they got those figures but it's what i've read). And also the ECU (also known as a T8) is extremely advanced and is really sensitive to things like the MAF sensor, turbo pressure, and injectors. Alot of times when something is tripped, the ECU goes into limp mode.

  • Limp mode shuts down or limits some of these processes in order for the car to run at what the ECU thinks is "safe" in order to get it to where you (or in their preferance, a dealer) can look at the problem. Even if there might not be one, it might just be a slight difference in air/fuel, but the ECU is not configured for that.

  • born from jets alright..

  • well it may sound cool but compressor surge isnt good...

  • that sound is turbo surge. not a good thing might I add. might wanna check it out.

  • Hi there First of All Sorry for my english hehe Im from mexico I just recently make my own shotr ram filter, but, I have some big problems, the Check Engine star blinking and the turbo now doent charge, but when I back to my original filter and box, It problem fixed, hel me, what I´m doing grong?

Some people Said me that is because its much Air to the maf is that right?

  • The air intake I have in this video did the same thing. There are many different things that end up causing this. I ended up fixing it by completely bypassing the stock boost controller and using a manual boost controller.

  • Haha lol 0:14 you sound like Kal Penn from Harold and Kumar ;)

  • sounds like the blow off valve is in backwards? stupid fuck

  • Thanks STUPID FUCK! It's bone stock(other than a simple intake)....I haven't touched a thing, so if it is in backwards, it's like that from the factory

  • wow what a fucking idiot. backwards?? wtf. sick grill btw.

  • That sounds like your wastegate is stuck OPEN.

My 900 did that when the Wastegate got stuck open.

  • yup^^^^

  • sounds good...my girl might be getting an 02 with the 2.0...hopefully i can make it sound like this

  • I'm not sure, because the 02 is a differant engine and body style...I mean, every turbo car can, but whether or not you can physically do it. I know it will make a blow-off sound....but not sure about the chatter

  • Wonderful sound ^^ SAAB FL <3

  • compressor surge =(..

  • hahaha "very scary" Dino is funny as shit!!

  • "very scary!" he sounds like borat.

  • thats the sound of you fucking up your turbo wit compressor surge:( !

  • im renteng a new saab 93 an i took a country rie an it was AMAZING

  • im hiring the new 2008 9-3 convertible 2.0T Bioline for 4 days to do a country drive. Ill let you guys know how it goes.

  • ISn't that the perfect example of Compressor surge? It occurs when pressurized air flows back to the compressor/turbo.

Can be damaging to the latter in the long run. A proper bypass valve or BOV would let the excess air pressure flow out of the system. Try looking for videos on Compressor surge or google it lol.

  • That is the bypass valve/turbo "chatter"...it is a slight surge, but the car has a bypass valve fitted stock....so i doubt its gonna be a huge problem...

  • hey how do u put the blow off valve on the saab, i wanna put one on mine

  • Mine doesn't have a Blow-off Valve.....It's just the stock Bypass Valve.

  • but how did u made it to do that?, i have the same saab and i wanna make it sound like that

  • Well, mine is an automatic, so if yours is a manual, I don't know how to do it. But when it's sitting still, you have to put the vehicle into drive...Hold the brake with one foot, and then push the gas with the other...then somewhat slowly, let go of the gas.... When driving, you have to not let the turbo spool up all the way, and then slowly release the gas pedal to get the "chatter" effect

  • no im talking about how u made that bypass air in the engine to do that, did u have to disconect something or what, and where is that by pass air pipe or w/e, bc i looked all over and i dont know what to do with it

  • Nothing....The only thing different from stock is my intake (which is now different than in the video, but does the same thing) But the noise can be made with having the car completley stock.

  • oh so u it was like that when u got it?

  • I could do that when I bought it...The car is capable of making that noise completely stock. I put on the aftermarket air intake (right now i have the Simota Intake), which only makes the noise louder, and lightens up the throttle response a bit.

  • yea i just tryed it it it dont do that u dont even hear it suckin in the air, is ur aero saab?

  • Nope...its the linear. And I know for sure that you can do it stock, because I've done it before, and there is a video of a completely stock 9-3 doing it here on youtube.

  • crap well i have 03 saab 9-3 vector (aero) 6 speed and no matter how i push on the gas u dont hear anything idk

  • Standing still....Idk how to get a 6speed to make that noise, but while you're moving, you just need to get the boost about halfway up (maybe a little less) and then let off the gas, and you should hear that chatter.

  • well thats wat i did i put it in nutural and push gas to half and than let go and it dont do anything, can u tellme exactly from where in the engine that noise comes out made they stock something in mine in that place

  • you need to keep the car in gear and do everything i said, for some reason, the turbo only spools up when the engine has a load on it(when you are in gear) try that and let me know.

  • dude i tryed everthing i even drow with it and redlined turbo all the time, it just doest do that :-(

  • hmmm, dunno what to say then....sorry

  • fak it man fak it lol, what year is urs

  • 2005 9-3 linear...

  • hmmm yea fak it

  • just to let people know that are bashing on automatics theres been talk that the 9-3's are better matched with the automatic gearbox due to the turbocharger and the tighter gear ratios. hard to prove without the numbers but i recall reading something about that in a few reviews.

  • I'm pretty sure that it is true....#1 the newer 9-3's have a Tiptronic shifter feature, which lets you shift when you want #2 Automatics have guarenteed shifts (no missed gears...no time variables)

  • That's why you don't drive a car with an automatic gearbox, you lazy boy ;P

  • I'd rather not drive an automatic, but after looking through car dealers and local sellers, for a car that I could afford, and that I wanted, Automatics were all I was finding.....oh well

  • automatic's are actually better with turbo's well saab is atleast. Less turbo lag. Im a saab person myself almost got a 2002 saab 9-5. My dad drives a 1997 900se coupe turbo. And my mom drives a 2007 9-3 60th anniversary edition. Ill have a video of my moms car up hopefully this weekend. now you just need a video of you destroying a volvo :D

  • It's very scary!! lol

  • NO good. sounds like you got a surge goin on there brah. you might wanna get that fixed. instead of ending up with a blow turbo.

  • No the only way the car makes that noise when not moving is to put the car in gear....hold the brake and give it some gas......it takes the engine to the stall limiter(2,500rpm) and when I let go of the gas it makes that noise......there is nothing wrong with it

  • only idiots like him say that about surge... they think there learning things from ricers on youtube... surge doesnt do anything to your turbo unless your running big psi, like over 3bar.... it sounds awsome

  • In case you didnt know that shutter is compressor surge, witch isnt to good for your turbo. All the compressed air is pushed against the turbine blades then the throttle closes, whitch is going to eventuly cause premature wear. And if you have the stock bypass valve you shouldent get compressor serge, thats why its there. Have you mofidied it at all or raised the boost?

  • The only mod is the intake, but it did it without that....it just sounds louder....and it doesnt make that noise when u completely let off the throttle....only when u release it and leave it slightly pushed....if you completely release it, it makes one purge noise, not the chatter....

  • so besindes the intake what else did u do to the engine to make it sound so nice ?

  • absolutly nothing....it sounds "nice" cuz its acctually in drive, while I'm holding the brake.......it makes it sound low toned. Without doing it that way, the electronic boost controler doesnt let the turbo "kick in" which doesnt build up pressure, which is what gives you the turbo chatter....

  • sounds good though..and what intake u have installed in your car? im looking to buy a 06 9-3 soon and im just interested to get an intake as soo as i bring it home

  • The one I have installed is a K&N 57i Series Intake.....

  • explain to me how i can do that on my car i have an intake and the cars are identical....im guessing yours is automatic...how can i do it in manual???

  • nice man. i met you on facebook. i have the 06 black 9-3 aero. peep my exhaust vid.

  • what intake is that?i'm interested?

  • K&N 57i series....It's nice...Turbo sounds alot louder...and so does the BPV....

  • its jus tha intake and it makes the turbo flutter noise and everything?or is there more to it?

  • No that's the stock By-pass Valve.....It just makes the noise louder...and it gives the car a little more punch and a quicker response...I'd recommend it..

  • Can I ask where you got the grille inserts for your Saab? I've been looking for something like that, makes it look a lot more agressive.
