i remember seeing an interview about their performance in Korea. They said they shivered when the fans would sing the parts of the song perfectly and said seeing them jump for joy was the best thing.

English is a mandatory course starting @ grade 3 thru high school in S. Korea's. (at least it was for me back in the 90s)

And they have to write exams, which include English tests, to get into universities.

So, I'm pretty sure most of the audience are not as clueless as you believe.
