yes, I think one of the problems of stdying phonetic is that first you have to know according to which accent is the sound analyzed. It's all about classification. Besides, somes sounds have more than one pronounciation within the same accent
The upsidedown V which is in "run" is not pronunced well, I think...

they are 5 letters which represent the vowel sounds in English... for example the "a' is pronounced differently in "after" and "fat"
