I finally saw this movie today for the first time ...wow. The finest film ever made, the best four hours I'd say I've ever spent in my life, beautifully shows a mans life in such a short time frame, a MUST SEE for any film fan!
@I hungrylikethewolf23 I never knew there were people in the world like you. You are a disgrace to Mankind. Yo need to ask God to forgive you for your hatred toward your fellow man..Shel
I did not trust to my eyes when I saw that there are 62 people who did not like this music. Who are they? What kind of people are they? Are they human beings?
And then... aliens came down to earth... and taught umanity a glimpse of their technology... and then they built stonehenge and flew away... then my childhood started to smell like opium... and then i saw my soul flying in a tunnel of light... then everything disappeared.
With earphones on, I put this on full volume. It chills my spine, flutters my heart and alters my modern soul. I look back and reflect on my life while that haunting whistling sound flows through my veins like a lazy, translucent river shimmering against the sun which is my ears. Thats what beautiful music does to me.
I love the masterful Morricone scores to "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", "Chi Mai", "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Malena", "A Fistful of Dollars", "My Name is Nobody", "The Mission" (IT'S A MASTERPIECE),..............you get the point...
...but there's something about this score, each theme and track evokes so many emotions of hope, gloom, melancholy, tragedy, dreams, sorrow, sadness, heartbreak, violence, innocence, fear, yearning, brutality,.....it's simply sublime.
@MrGisexpert just because it is on the top list then it dosen't mean that it is the best movie ever made, cause I have seen alot better movies than that.
@WeeChrissyKelly Well this movie (In my opinion) wasn't that much of a gangster movie. I thought it was 3/4 about friendship and love, it was just based in crime (which takes up the other 1/4) . . . kinda like 'Romeo + Juliet' . . . . . but still, this is one of my most favourite movies . . . .
I was VERY disappointed when I watched this movie. It had the potential to be a great movie, but it most definitely missed the mark. I LOVE ROBERT DENIRO. He is actually good in this film, its the film that is not good. As for the score, magnificent, its just wasted on a terrible movie just as Chi Mai is wasted the movie The Professional. Chi Mai is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed, but again, it was paired with a terrible movie.
I just say this movie. Although it was 220 minutes long, and I didn't quiet understand it, I have the need to see it again. This is really a great movie. I love Sergio Leone's movies. I am glad I just had enough money with me when I saw it laying in the store.
The bridge is moving because some jew ghetto rats are trying to steal it to sell for scap metal. What happens when scum from the world's sewers are allowed to swarm over here? Ya get the mafia. The Sicilians too were mostly jew rats as well. Nothing good will ever come from this tribe of treacherous trolls.
@afshiddi Hey i listen to lady gaga and justin beiber sometimes but this music...i can't imagine someone not moved by these master pieces that Ennio Morricone has made. On earth as it is in heaven made my cry from the first time i heard it...it's genius
@tinova7 The godfathers soundtrack wasnt really all that good. The filmmaking was the real element behind that masterpiece. Honestly no one will top this track
@DJDoggfight Ethnically, the characters were Jewish, living in a Jewish neighborhood...for me, the point was, not all mobsters were Sicilian or Italian - almost all ethnic groups considered "2nd-class" citizens by the majority who lacked power resorted to organized crime. As I recall, there was also an Irish gang depicted in this film; Noodles, Max and the others "make their bones" working for Sicilians (then the Irish boys go after them). There were also African-American mobs back in the day.
Far more superior? Firstly, that is a badly written sentence, and secondly, Enter the void is a pretentious piece of shit. Honestly, as much as I consider Inception a hollow eggshell without a soul, the cinematography was far superior to that of Enter The Void.
Greatest soundtrack ever written for a film and should have won the oscar but the Ladd Film Co forgot to submit it. They were almost bankrupt and the film was butchered for general release. Fortunately the full version at over 3 hours is one of the greatest cinema achievements. A sprawling epic of love and betrayal spannig several decades its a masterpiece and Ennio Morricone score is breathtakingly beautiful. Its not a cosy watch with violence and rape but incredibly moving and on an epic scale
@LimeLou I think he means underrated in a sense that it isn't as widely appreciated than as it should be. Yeah, critics like it as do true film lovers such as you and I, but there are many who won't have even heard of it... or may have heard of it but never seen it. Thing is, so many youngsters these days just want to see explosions and lots of action 24/7... they're not interested in true storytelling and true filmmaking.
@sassym Which version? The 3 hr 49min? OR is there some black market version that's like 7 hours long, or something like that? Because I read Leone origionally had some 10 hrs worth of footage, and very painfully cut it to 6hrs, wanting to release the film in two 3-hr. parts. He was forced to reduce it even further, to 3hr 49 min. There is rumored to be a 269 minute version to be remastered and released sometime next year, for some film festival. What have you heard?
@Lazar3451 umm yeah definitely underrated. It took Leone 20 years to make this film. He never received any awards for this film. it only got a 89% on rotten tomatoes. It wasn't even nominated for any awards and this amazing score that is done in the movie isn't recognized AT ALL. that is why i call this underrated
Ennio captured the mood of the film to such an extent you wonder what came first the film or the score!! Like Gabrielle's oboe it moves you close to tears. Haunting and majestic...
@flre180 Ah man... Look....When you watch it, take a couple of shots of vodka or whatever you fancy, and watch it with your significant other...trust me.
If you can speak Italian it's amazing, but even if you can't it is subtitled, and still great.
My girlfriend cannot speak Italian, and still loves Cinema Paradiso.
This has to be one the most evocative pieces of music ever composed. Beautiful and at the same time so haunting, perhaps even creepy. they should create a radio station for film scores, something like "Radio Film 98.5". Only problem is who will finance it?

Inspiring masterpiece. I feel that it managed to touch so many different subjects that it's just insane. Definitely worth a 2nd watch.
