This may be our National Anthem, but this song totally belongs to Miss Patty....I have never heard another voice that sing this song like she does. What an awesome voice and how blessed we are to have her singing for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
This is an amazing performance. AMAZING. I hate the National Anthem, and its war mongering message but this performance actually moves me to tears, steals the breath from my body, and make me want to leap from my chair and shoot an Iraqi insurgent and urinate on his body. Whitney, Jennifer, Aguilera, nor all the rest could, like Sandi Patti, move me to act against my conscience. NOW that is real power!!
The coragrahpic *sp within the music, and the speaking within the pauses were awesome. A great team of pictures with one God Given Majestic Voice of Miss Sandi Patty.
Dorothy Warenskjold sung it in 1986 Liberty Weekend. She has an album from 1962 that has this on it. I hate to say it but still no one has ever beat her.
Yes call the NFL, NBA and pro baseball too, she is awesome...no one can sing it better. She has been my favorite since I was a teen. God gave her those tremendous vocals...lol
Sandi Patty provided this rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" to accompany the July 4, 2011 fireworks in Boston. It was an amazing close for the Boston Pops program.
I remember seeing this when it came on. I was so excited b/c I am a big Sandi Patty fan! She later said on the Tonight Show w/Johnny Carson that she was just as surprised as everyone else when this came on! Awesome!!!!
They also used to play this during the fireworks show at Disney World. One of my favorite version. I wish they would invite people who could actually sing to perform at sporting events instead of hiring "celebrities" which are usually horrible.
The next Tuesday, Sandi was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and sang "Love in Any Language." That is when she really burst on the national stage outside of the Christian world...This is I believe when Nancy Reagan dubbed her "the voice."
At the time of the broadcast, Capitol Cities-ABC owned Word, the label Sandi Patty (the spelling has legally been that; a printer's mistake on a demo was not corrected until 1993, a year after her divorce) and publisher Claire Cloninger had contracts (now part of Warner Music Group). This is legally Warner Music Group property.
THANK YOU for posting this! I was a young sailor stationed in NY during this celebration, and I still remember it as one of our most impressive displays of national unity and pride. I've searched for beautiful and unique rendition of our national anthem for years and am delighted to find it on this 235th anniversary of our nation's birth (though seeing the Twin Towers brought tears to my eyes).
My wife sang this version a couple of times and also has a very strong, trained soprano voice. The last time she sang it, she was 8mo. preg with our first child, 13yrs ago. Though she was strong and did and awesome job, was just funny to see her supporting her stomach area especially near the end, "America! America! America! America!" Higher! Higher! Higher! Higher! Can just hear my daughter inside saying, "gee mom, what are you doing out there?" I was great.
Thank you so very much for posting this. I erroneously posted on someone's comment that Sandi Patty sang this at our country's Bicentennial...DUH! it was the refurbishing of our beautiful Lady Liberty!
@bvcmargie More accurately, it was the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Lady Liberty was refurbished and cleaned up in time for the festivities. What a great weekend of just about everything!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU for posting this! I have looked for it for a while and this is my first time hearing it, though I've heard Sandi's incredible voice do it in other tracks... but wow this one is incredible. What a range... her voice just soars into the galaxy!
I remember how proud I was to be an American that day. Thank you for posting this stellar performance. There's a little bit of everything great about America in this event.
This is actually better than Whitey's version at the Superbowl, at least vocally. However, holistically, Whitney's version is the best to exist because of the monumental success she was able to gleam from singing it.
Thank you for posting this. I have this on VHS and was hoping someone would post this on You Tube. Simply amazing. I agree with the posts stating that she should sing at the 2012 Super Bowl.
Thank you for posting this!! IMO, the best rendition of The Star Spangled Banner ever performed in my lifetime! Chills! I think Sandi Patty should be invited to sing at Super Bowl 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. She is from Indiana so it would be perfect!
The best better then Whitney

It is also worth noting that at the time she was not very well known, this really was in many ways her national debut... how cool a debut is that ?

They did not show Sandi because she was not there! They played the recording and she was home on her couch. she said so in one of her books.

@IWDWSWLM BUT she did perform it live in 1997 at President Clinton's Inaugural Gala . . . and it was amazing!!

Powerful rendition! I actually have her version of this, with other singers, on an old patriotic cassette from 1986.
Just wondering why we hear Sandi's magnificent voice, but don't see her on this ABC special? Guess different filming standards from 25 years ago.

I agree....Sandi Patty's version (as well as Whitney Houston's version from the '91 Super Bowl) are the two best I've ever heard....
