  • There must be some good camping around there...

  • There is an entire cottage industry up there. Lots of ppl own small cottages or have trailer homes on a ton of lakes. It's beautiful up there and quiet!

  • Northern Wisconsin is absolutely beautiful... The water level was quite a bit higher in May...

  • Yeah, I love it up there!

  • "They were creative & didn't even know it" Great quote & so true too.

That sure does look different all those months ago.

The road less travelled is often the most imteresting one to take :)

  • :-)

  • awesome waterfall and view!!!

  • Thanks!

  • It is a beautiful view. So relaxing listening to the falls.

  • I hope to get back there this fall! :)

  • Awesome video! You need to make a day trip to indiana one weekend and we can do a local run! They have them almost every weekend all year round year for one cause or another :)

  • Dude! That would be a blast! What part of Indiana are you from?

  • Im in the Fishers/Noblesville area a delightful suburb just north of Indianapolis.

  • Very very cool, athough the only thing missing was you hiding under the bridge to do a 'hater troll' impression! ;D

  • LOLOL! I actually thought of that! LOL

  • I had a conversation with a man from Wis. the other day; he mentions that most places he goes are all about 90 minutes away (re: your comment). Yes; Wis. is beautiful. Road trips are just so cool. You might start by mapping out interesting places within a 50 mile radius and then expanding outward. Enjoy.

  • I'm just amazed at what I can find within 90 minutes from my house! The cool thing about it is, I've been doing a lot of photography lately, and I can literally find incredible shots outside my door if I look hard enough! :)

  • Not sure how I missed this, but glad to see you again and happy for your inspiration. Can't wait to see where else the road may take you :)

    Great location to vlog!!

  • Thanks Danny! Can't wait to get some more free Saturdays to do more of this! :D

  • Kudos to you for going so far off the beaten path (figuratively and literally)!

I think you were justified at using "amazing" as a descriptive there (which is saying something given how I feel about the overuse of that word). That place is gorgeous and good thing you got the camera so you'd have the inspiration to get out and go see this stuff.

I may joke about the time I lived in the Midwest but Wisconsin really is beautiful.

  • Is it more wrong to reply to comments 2 weeks after the comment's been made or to just avoid it completely? Going through old emails, how did that inbox fill up? (That's what she said??)

  • 90 comments on my last one.

    I've answered one.

I dunno, you tell me. LOL

  • stunning...dare i say amazing...lol!

  • Just how many amazings did I end up with? LOL

  • what? none of us counted?

  • what a spectacular spot.

    - now I need to head to the loo! - ;P

  • I totally had to use the rest room the entire time I was there! LOL

  • Can't wait to see more photos!

  • Looks like a beautiful place Gary. We would agree that YT does inspire one to do more and challenge themselves to try things they may not normally think they would be good at. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Enjoying the Twit Pix too.

  • That is a nice view! And I know the feeling when you just can't stop taking pictures, that's why I have a 16GB card in my camera which fits about 1400-1500 pics on RAW format. :)

  • Amazing!!!

  • I used to visit Mount Rainier in Washington. and it was just beautiful.

  • You've been making me wanna buy a new camera

  • Looks great! Can't wait to see more sights.

  • that totally looks like a spot in the area where i grew up :D pretty!

  • Kewl!

  • nice

  • Why weren't you there?

  • Because I was at home, writing an email to you. But you never replied! :(

  • this is really awesome landscape. Looking forward to seeing your art. You are going to share that right?

    great concept...daytripper yeah...

  • I will definitely share it. Not sure how, but yeah.

    And daytripper yeah!

  • This is an awesome video! There needs to be more videos like this!!! Theres a lot of videos out there that are a whole bunch of nonsense now a days. Can you upload some more?

  • :-)

  • What a great hike in the woods, LOVE the waterfalls. Go up to Rhinelander and take some pictures of Sugar Camp Lake for me, Im not gonna make it this year:-(

  • Hmmm...I think Rhinelander is a couple hours away too. The next time you make it up there, you should let me know!

  • i look forward to your upcoming trips! Glad to see you enjoying your "back yard!" Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks! So do I! :)

  • That's beautiful, the sounds alone are almost as enjoyable as the video itself.

  • I was going to put a soundtrack in this one, but realized almost immediately that wasn't necessary!

  • I THINK I SAW A HOBBIT!

  • Um...that was me!

  • WOOT scenic state parks!

  • Yup yup.

  • yup yup, isnt that ewok, no that yub yub, hmmm , is that hobbitspeak?

  • shoulda gone pee BEFORE watching this lol

And your t-shirt says "Osama" ?

  • I had to pee the entire time I was there! And yeah, the shirt has the Obama logo on it. It's a take off of a Macintosh slogan.

  • amazing, indeed! that's some really beautiful country. funnily enough just this weekend i took a little hike in my own "backyard" to get some scenic views and shoot some video. WI looks absolutely gorgeous. i'm glad you had such a relaxing and inspired memorial holiday. cheers! :)

  • So will this video be posted on YouTube anytime soon? Looking forward to it!

  • hopefully some tiny segment of it will appear in tonjesml's new The End video! we'll see... :)

  • The title is the best ever!!

I would be so miserable if I went there with someone who tried to rush me, I could stay out in nature forever, too. I am soooo looking forward to seeing the parks in WI via your photos. Even if they are similar to MN, all parks are different.

Maybe I can talk Brojoghost into a road trip to a nearby park... as long as there is a cemetery nearby we'll both have fun. ;)

  • Hey if I get a newer car soon I'll have every excuse to have an inaugural adventure!

  • And you'll come to Wisconsin?

  • I would suggest going to the WI Renaissance Faire in Chippewa Falls, but I just glanced at their website, and this year's faire is entirely canceled! :(

but my car ain't going anywhere without getting named first ;) I'm brainstorming names from ancient mythologies so far

  • Yays!

  • I'm glad you caught the title! Maybe if I come to MN some time this summer we do a little day trip to a park out by you?

  • That would be awesome!

  • Unless you just follow behind me like a little duck at the Mall of America? LOL

  • QUACK!

    LOLego!

  • That's right - 'have at her!"

    Amazing = 20 times...

That's an amazing place!! Thanks for sharing :0)

  • How you dorin', you amazing thing?!

  • I'm AMAZING.... Hope you're AMAZING, too!!

  • For the love! LOL

  • I like that idea of vacation in your own back yard. Maybe I will do some of that this summer.

  • Woot woot!

  • Wow, I'm flattered you've been inspired by lil' ol' us. I think your summer plan will pay off many times over for you. Just the de-stressing effect alone is worth it. And changing up your surroundings gives your artistic eye more and more training and inspiration.

One thing I learned on our roadtrip: time spent just sitting quietly and drinking things in is precious. Seems you found that as well.

Next time you're out this way, there are some waterfalls I need to take you to.

  • As things at work get more and more stressful this summer, these weekend day-trips might be my salvation! It was definitely great to get away on Sunday! Even though I was snapping away all day, I did give myself some time to just sit on a rock in the sun and enjoy nature. I think me and the old bird have kissed and made up!

  • I forgot to steal your camera... damn!!!

Off the beaten path was my goal for this trip and I think I accomplished just that. Glad to hear this will be the summer of short adventures and photography, make sure to send along Flickr links, etc when you post.

    Cheers my friend... J.

  • I need to get my Flickr account back up and running and get a pro account. I have so many pix to already post...I'm excited by the all the possibilities that it has to offer!

Thank you, for without knowing it, inspiring me to get the new camera AND start up these day trips. Can't wait to see your pix from the trip!

  • That was cool. I was going out pretty regular for walks up until a week or so ago. The last time I was out I went to our local waterfalls but pictures didn't do them justice-maybe I should try video next time. I'm really getting into the idea of nature photography and have a few more nature walks planned and a trip to the Zoo and some riding stables. I would love to get a DSLR already but I have to look for a car first. Good luck with the trips and the art!

  • Luckily with all the freelance work I did earlier this year and a couple good tax returns, I was able to swing the camera. Too bad the dollar only goes so far, huh? Good luck with the new car!

  • Beautiful!! Saw your shots on twitter. They look amazing!

  • Thanks Katie! I'm loving the new camera!

  • Thanks for showcasing your State...I will be roadtripping the US next year and want to know some cool places to go

  • There are many beautiful places in the USA! I have so many to visit myself!

  • A lot of people have mental pictures of Wisconsin being a frozen tundra but don't realize what a great outdoors the state has. Giant bugs tho...

Day trips are great way to reorganize head.

  • It did my head wonders!

And I kind of do feel like I'm here to give WI a good name and show that there's so much more to it than just what you see on TV and movies which, frankly, is quite insulting!

  • I drive "up north" to where my family lives in Arizona and the drive alone can serve to get a new perspective.

On the other hand, living in Arizona with well known beauty has it's drawbacks...everyone comes here from a lot of places and most are not respectful of it. All across the midwest I've always gotten a feeling of common sense and respect for others I think midwesterners under appreciate about themselves.

  • The 90 minute drive to these falls was great fun for me too...There was lots to look at, a lot of music to listen to, and lots of thinking to be done.

I've spent a few days in Tucson a few years ago. I really loved it there. I can see what you mean though, guests tend to be very disrespectful!

  • Great falls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise MI too - upper falls and lower falls - very cool!

  • I want to revisit the Pictured Rocks up in MI as well! So many places to go!

  • We are doing the same thing, we have so many amazing places around here that we don't need to go too far to enjoy nature and a great time.

    Go Gary!!!!

  • Isn't it great? Beauty is all around!

  • That is a beautiful area of Wisconsin!

  • Yeah! WI has many!

  • i would go swimming in there. it looks so fresh, cold but fresh.

  • It actually wasn't that cold. I totally wanted to go swimming in there too!

  • i'll come visit we can go swimming.

  • YAY!

  • so beautiful, my grandparents own a waterfall. We call it Grandads waterfall. I should capture it next time i am back home. (jane - stylistbrighton)

  • Aww! I want to go there!

  • ps you have a broken link in your description requiring a comma to be replaced by a period... vbg

  • Thanks! Got it! (This is what happens when I write a description at 4 AM!)

  • The road less travelled is usually the best one to take.

Getting off of the beaten track is something i love to do too.

As you know, i try to explore & video my local area. It's amazing how often people don't realise what is on their doorstep. A little bit of effort can bring great rewards.

I love your Summer goals btw :)

  • The rewards for this trip were awesome. I had a great drive on a beautiful day. Got to listen to some great music. Had a great hike. Took a ton of awesome pictures. AND got to hang out with Mother Nature. Good day indeed. I'm excited about the summer goals...Wish me luck!

  • I will be posting a Hell's Canyon Class 5 Whitewater Rafting Video the end of next month... Outdoor vids are fun eh

  • The resolution was better than average for many outdoor productions...

I might be buying a underwater capable cam for the whitewater trip...

  • Wow! That will be awesome!

  • "... Learning about the camera, myself, and Wisconsin..." Great goals for the summer!

Road trips are the greatest, and really getting to know your own region is essential. And waterfalls - well, they just can't be beat.

  • Well said my friend. I think I've gained such a wanderlust lately from all my YT friends that the short term solution will be these little day trips. I'm a day tripper!

  • Don't go chasing waterfalls, stick to the rivers and lakes that you're used to... or not! :D

  • LOL!

  • At 5:48 did you have "Not Penny's Boat" written on your hand?

Great video BTW, it's great to explore or rediscover other passions besides video making. Good luck with the photography!

  • After watching it back, I totally realized it looked like that! Next time I will post subliminal messages in the video! Although at the end of this one did you catch that I said "I have to go back." Apparently I'm Jack Sheppard now. Btw, I'm going to email you tonight about a Lost collab to record soon.

  • Wisconsin is more than just cheese?

That area is beautiful. Look forward to your future day trips. You'll probably end up inspiring other YouTubers yourself.

Do you ever wonder if any other animal pauses to admire the aesthetic beauty of nature?

    Carry on!

  • nice place. but i tend to get nervous if im more than ten mins away from a beer shop.

  • This was right off the highway, so there was beer close by!

  • no they dont but try telling that to philhellans.

  • Ha ha ha! I engineer semi-conductors, like animals do.

  • so i guess thats a part time job.

  • Yeah, more than cheese! Can you believe it?!? LOL

My cat loves to sleep in sun beams, but I think that's more due to warmth than beauty. You hope they can sense it.

  • Good to see you Gary & what a wonderful spot to relax and breathe. It is amazing what one can discover in their own backyard so to speak. hugs, Chris

  • Amen to that Chris! ((HUGS))

  • Beautiful spot Gary! I could spend the whole day there. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • I planned on only spending an hour at the most there...I had plans with my family that day. I ended up spending 2 hours there and could have spent the entire day there too!

  • This is SO lovely! It makes me want to be there, wading in that water (no matter the temp), or sitting on a warm rock taking in those gorgeous views. Thank you so much for giving a glimpse into pure beauty!

  • You are very welcome! :)

  • Amazing location. ALWAYS go off the beaten path! I think it's time for a little road trip for us too. Tons of beautiful spots like that within a couple of hours of us.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

  • Incredible what's in our own back yard if we look a bit.

    Beautiful quote Joe!

  • Gorgeous! You know, hiking has a lot of fitness benefits too and you get to see such beautiful places too. Now that I'm more mobile again, that's what has begun for me. When you put the same hike on an incline it has even more benefits, but with or without the incline, getting away from the city is wonderful. Great video - and a brilliant idea for a series really.

  • I hope to make this a series! The mental and physical benefits are great! Good to hear that you're moving around more.

  • There is nothing like the

    sound of rushing waters.

    Mooz

  • Amen to that! :)

  • Sweet! I love the sound of POWER when the water falls over the rocks. It's so loud, yet comforting. We chased falls in the U.P. 2 years ago with my Mom, and it was great. They were dry at the time, but it looks like you're in pretty good shape there.

    Renaissance Man!

  • It's so interesting how it sounds so powerful and peaceful at the same time. I think the pure power of mother nature is oddly comforting.

  • Ahh, that is gorgeous! Man, if I had a million dollars. I'd totally build a cabin right by the river, get a little garden going. Of course I'd still have to have the internet and all that. lol

There's actually a river behind the store where I work and it's kinda pretty, I might have to get out my battery and go shoot some of it.

  • It's about 87 north of where I live...so you'd be able to do the trip in just under 2 hours! You should go for it! Of course, you have the big lake right in your town!

  • Wow, beautiful spot.

  • Yeah...more beautiful than I remembered!

  • Cool footage! I've been wanting to go on more day trips, and this might be the inspiration that I needed. :-)

  • Cool!

  • I'm actually trying to plan a day trip for this weekend! I'm going to do some searching on the net and see if I can find somewhere to go. :-)

  • Awesome! Look at the ripple affect this can have!

  • Wow that place looks incredible! I want a waterfall! It looks a lot like Amnicon Falls State Park, blended with a little bit of Kivach in northern Russia, particularly where I stayed for a month in 2004!

  • Autumn would have a blast out there!
