Well, I wouldn't say stupid. I'm a car buff, but ask me what's going on underneath the hood and I probably won't be able to tell you much. In that case I would research, however, and I have. @MaestroDraven I really see where you're coming from, and Apple do make great UI's - I loved my FifthG iPod although the headphone jack did die after about 18 months. BUT - If they maybe used a 5-10% markup on their hardware, I could probably understand, it's the *literally* 300% price increase they use is just mindblowing, it makes me actually HATE a company, not something I've ever done before.

Well, perfection is in the eye of the beholder :) For instance, I have an iPhone 3GS. To me, it's just a phone. I think it's a GREAT phone, but I can clearly spot its disadvantages. The corporate world uses Blackberries for a reason, as the iPhone cannot keep up in that sector. It's not a hatred of Mac products that drives my opinions. It's the snobby mask of arrogant superiority that Apple flaunts. At the end of the day, they aren't as good as they claim to be.
If I pay the same amount for a PC as I would a Mac, it would be A HELL OF A LOT more powerful. Why? Because Mac over-charges for everything they produce. It's more about image than anything.
Apple's own software? Hardly. The entire industry uses ProTools for its ease-of-use, versatility and performance. Logic 9 might keep up, but like every Apple product, it's certainly no better. That's like saying Final Cut Pro can't be beat, yet Avid Studio has done it for years and become the movie industry's editor of choice.

Untrue. In order to match the specs of an $1899ASUS G-series laptop, a 17" Macbook Pro would cost $3049. My mid-range rendering station cost me $1500 to build. If I were to duplicate it on iMac, it would run $4000, and that's without my SSD drive.
The build quality myth is just that. A myth. If Apple sells 10,000 Macs in a month, and PCs sell 1,000,000 units, who do you think is going to have a higher list of reported failures? Google "Magsafe defects."

Well unfortunately you can't build your own Mac. You can choose a base configuration and then customize it, and fall victim to Apple's insane price-gouging on RAM and hard drive prices. Or buy those particular components yourself. You're still limited on form factor and overall peak output. Buying an iMac is an exercise in dead-endedness. Mobile-based video cards are your only option. Your only real choice is the Mac Pro, another of Apple's insanely overpriced computers.

That's....not what I'm saying at all. And I'm not defending, for I was never at risk of attack. What you're seeing is a numbers and ratios game. You hear of less issues with Macs because they sell significantly less. For every Mac sold, about 100 PCs are sold. Compare the Canada to U.S. homicide rate. Does the U.S. have more homicides? Or does it just appear that way because of the much greater difference in population counts?
@MaestroDraven I definitely agree, but from my experience, Macs are much more quality machines than pc's. Every PC I have ever owned has caused me nothing but trouble and is slow and loaded with software I don't want and catches a virus every time you stray from Google or YouTube. That's been my experience with PC's...You can say that Boston is 500x safer than Detroit, but for somebody from Detroit who goes to Boston and gets mugged, that's not going to mean much.
That may be, but Apple uses the exact same components that go into PCs, so you can't tell me that the build quality is any better. I've mentioned Apple's class action lawsuits for bad build quality before. Those weren't pulled out of thin air. You need to focus on what's going into your system. Also you'd have to run bootcamp if you wanted to play 90% of games, and in my experience (granted it's not very much), it always ran like shit. Hardly any games are made ground up or even ported to mac.

- Check out the ASUS U-series laptops. Thin, lightweight, aluminum body, double the hardware of the Macbook line, about $500 cheaper, with 10-12 hour battery lives as opposed to the Macbook's 7.
@MaestroDraven Yeah I'm my experience with high end laptops they're either super huge and get way too hot too fast or they're just slow and shitty. I like the 15" macbook cause it's quite and easy to get around. My friends all have 17" plus beasts with core i7's and 5870's and I just couldn't handle that.
My tower is already incredibly powerful and I don't really care about piower in a laptop. So no I don't consider those better portable devices. Also they're pretty of ugly if you ask me.

That means someone could be accessing your financials, E-Mail, contact lists and secretly taking control of your Mac without you even realizing that anything is happening. Not everything nefarious is visible and in plain sight, my friend. Beware, and be safe.

@MaestroDraven I really see where you're coming from, and Apple do make great UI's - I loved my FifthG iPod although the headphone jack did die after about 18 months. BUT - If they maybe used a 5-10% markup on their hardware, I could probably understand, it's the *literally* 300% price increase they use is just mindblowing, it makes me actually HATE a company, not something I've ever done before.

Well, perfection is in the eye of the beholder :) For instance, I have an iPhone 3GS. To me, it's just a phone. I think it's a GREAT phone, but I can clearly spot its disadvantages. The corporate world uses Blackberries for a reason, as the iPhone cannot keep up in that sector. It's not a hatred of Mac products that drives my opinions. Untrue. In order to match the specs of an $1899ASUS G-series laptop, a 17" Macbook Pro would cost $3049. My mid-range rendering station cost me $1500 to build. If I were to duplicate it on iMac, it would run $4000, and that's without my SSD drive.
The build quality myth is just that. A myth. If Apple sells 10,000 Macs in a month, and PCs sell 1,000,000 units, who do you think is going to have a higher list of reported failures? Google "Magsafe defects."

Well unfortunately you can't build your own Mac. You can choose a base configuration and then customize it, and fall victim to Apple's insane price-gouging on RAM and hard drive prices. Or buy those particular components yourself. You're still limited on form factor and overall peak output. Buying an iMac is an exercise in dead-endedness. You hear of less issues with Macs because they sell significantly less. For every Mac sold, about 100 PCs are sold. Compare the Canada to U.S. homicide rate. Does the U.S. have more homicides? Or does it just appear that way because of the much greater difference in population counts?

Every PC I have ever owned has caused me nothing but trouble and is slow and loaded with software I don't want and catches a virus every time you stray from Google or YouTube. That's been my experience with PC's...You can say that Boston is 500x safer than Detroit, but for somebody from Detroit who goes to Boston and gets mugged, that's not going to mean much.

I've mentioned Apple's class action lawsuits for bad build quality before. Those weren't pulled out of thin air. You need to focus on what's going into your system. Also you'd have to run bootcamp if you wanted to play 90% of games, and in my experience (granted it's not very much), it always ran like shit. Hardly any games are made ground up or even ported to mac.

@MaestroDraven Yeah I'm my experience with high end laptops they're either super huge and get way too hot too fast or they're just slow and shitty. I like the 15" macbook cause it's quite and easy to get around. My friends all have 17" plus beasts with core i7's and 5870's and I just couldn't handle that.
My tower is already incredibly powerful and I don't really care about piower in a laptop. So no I don't consider those better portable devices. Also they're pretty of ugly if you ask me.

It wont take long, until people realise, that macs arent cool. They are only cool as long as not everyone has them. If you one day sit in your school and look around you and you see that everyone has the same notebook, you will see that it isnt fun having the same shit as everyone and you will realise macs arent cool, because its product, that hasnt any individuality, and that is what lots of people hate

Macs are, OH SO GOOD AT NOT GETTING VIRUSES! I hacked the system at my school, in fifth grade, and they were down for weeks. If a Mac has a problem, you get a new one. They're for rich assholes who don't know how to work a computer.

Sone of the windows users in these comments are horribly ignorant of what a mac can do. It is amazing. Why don't all the windows users here go to an apple store or best buy and try one out. To find anything you will not have to go down 6 folders or search for for 5 or 10 minutes to find a setting.

You may wish to research the Pwn2Own challenge,where Mac computers have consistently fallen first in the hack challenge on the first day for several consecutive years. People like Charlie Miller who have done this for a living and are considered the best hackers in the world have chimed in and declared the Mac platform as the most notoriously insecure and easily exploitable platform in existence. 95% of what happens could be going on right under your nose without you knowing.

Case in point: Trojans, phishers, keystroke loggers and rootkits are the biggest threats facing the Mac OS at this time, and tests during the challenges have shown that ROOT access isn't even needed. That means someone could be accessing your financials, E-Mail, contact lists and secretly taking control of your Mac without you even realizing that anything is happening. Not everything nefarious is visible and in plain sight, my friend. Beware, and be safe.
