I absolutely love this movie I grew up around johnny cash and hank jr. And I am glad I did! And I am sorry but joaquin phoenix is hot in this movie.. Just something about a "man in black" (:
@tybear1990 The song was just shortened in the movie. Fun fact: Did you know Joaquin Phoenix is 5ft8 and Johnny Cash was 6ft2 ? If you would line them up next to each other it would look pretty funny! :P

@RAWRifyU Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees once said "Comparing The Monkees to the Beatles is like comparing William Shatner to Neil Armstrong." Joaquin is an actor, impersonating a legend who personified a over generation of American culture. Bill Shatner v. Neil Armstrong, if you will...
@TheSRalston I know, Phoenix didn't quite get enough Appreciation. He played the role of Mr. Cash perfect. I was always a fan of Cash's music. And i'll admit Phoenix did a dam good job
plus j entends et plus je regarde ce clip plus je l aime c est dingue. quel acteur et quel chanteur! il rend un hommage merveilleux à johnny cash vive joaquim phoenix
I love this whole scene. Especially the small segment before this starts with how it follows on from the opening scene.
The build up is so energetic with that freight-train drumming that by the time he launches into singing your immediately clapping in your mind with the rest of the inmates.
wow, this dude sing alot like cash, even the director said that was spooky to hear him and seen him, like if was the real cash, really good singer too!! good job mr phoenix!!
There is no doubt, Johnny Cash was one of the greatest country singers/performers. However, Joaquin Pheonix in "Walk The Line", jumped it up a bit that makes it more attractive.
This is a way better version than the great Johnny Cash ever did. Sorry Johnny. You were great but I don't even listen to you anymore. Joaquin sings your songs the way they were meant to be sung. RIP
@the8thgreatchris cmon man. how can you be great then suddenly not great? remember JC made the music and if he had not done, there would be nothing to have an opinion on
@the8thgreatchris I feel like if Cash wrote the song then the way he sang it was probably the way it was meant to be sung lol. Phoenix does a very good job though no question
Yes,it was more than unfair that Joaquin didn´t win the Oscar. But his performance will still be remembered when other actors and movies will be forgotten for a long time - even if they got the Acadamy Award.
For some reason when I first saw this I thought that man shouting was Glen Shirley and I thought they would show the connection between the two men and how the song Greystone Chapel came to be.
@apenny4urthots i got a few guitar lessons when i was 18 by the guy that taught Joaquin for this movie. him and Reese said that it was creepy how well he did in his role for the movie.
@GulfCoastFlames28 I like the ones he does with Reece better and all the others just as equal as Johnny! He was the perfect person for this movie!! (and so was Reece!) I actually have one C.D. with Johnny Cash singing and have another one with Joaquin! :) :) P.S.. Joaquin is SO CUTE!... Yummy!
@ivanpumitanomemories Well my comment has 91 likes so there are a few crazy people. Second "what" has one T, you used the word "men" instead of "man"' you spelled "you're" wrong, and finally "crazy" has one y. Both "crazy" and "what" could be said the way you wrote them but in "what" the A would have been repetitive not the T.
Just before I listened to Joaquin singing this I listened to Johnny Cash and I gotta say her really nailed it all the way. BTW the end of this version is a little racier than what was realeased in the theatre because it's got the last two verses. Totally awesome!
