If you have Sirius/XM they played the first 24 hours on MTV. They had all the original VJs in studio to talk about the launch and small library of videos to play. If you google the list alot of Rod Stewart is on there. We all know the Bugles video was the first. What was the first video played twice? The Who's You better you bet.

VH1 Classic is showing 3 days worth of original MTV starting July 30th at 6 AM. It has everything from old commercials to shows, like original Beavis and Butt-Head, Remote Control, and more... The first hour of MTV ever will air on Sunday July 31st at midnight on VH1 Classic.. DON'T MISS IT!!

Oh jeez, first people complain that MTV isn't playing enough music (respectable.) But now some people are saying that MTV went downhill when they started playing the WRONG kind of music? MTV officially died in 1991.

When Nirvana became huge, MTV basically cut all other up and coming genres out of the loop, and played nothing but grunge. Cutting out many good non-grunge artists. On a trip to the UK in 1991, I discovered techno, and the rave scene. After discovering a whole new world that MTV was totally ignoring, they have long since been a distant memory.

What I would do If I were in charge of MTV:

1. Tar and feather Heidi & Spencer

2. Re-launch VH1 into a general entertainment network under a new name & swap programs so VH1's music shows are on MTV and MTV's non-music shows are on VH1

3. With True Life and Made off the schedule, daytime will be entirely Music Videos with VJs and news and such.

4. Develop music-centric programming (think Glee) for prime-time.

5. ???

6. PROFIT!

Well,I was born in 1982 and I remember watching MTV back in the days when they showed "Steppin" Out" by Joe Jackson,"Senses Working Overtime" by XTC and any 70s videos from either ELO,David Bowie or Rod Stewart. Me, personally I do tolerate the new MTV but I did grow up around old school music growing up so don't say that every kid of this generation is dim witted about music.
