But if they remove the rule every1 would just goalhang and wait at the other goal until someone passes it to him. So football would be a horrible, frustrating sport if there wasn't offside
It was pretty well done but as others have stated the goalie does not impact offsides in any manner. Second, I think you should have explained that once a player on your team passes the ball forward you no longer have to be onside. As long as you are even or in front of the last man before it is kicked you can sprint ahead as soon as that ball is kicked forward. It's crucial because this is the one area that a lot of people don't get and incorrectly think a faster player is offsides.
@CoronaKidz the goalie does dictate offsides. retard. he is the 2nd defender between a striker and the goal line. a common mistake since people usually believe its just one defender they must stay on sides with to avoid being offsides. So actually the goalie impacts offsides in almost every manner. unless the team your playin against has no goalie. learn the rules
Watching this prior to my attempt at Soccer, as a kid, would have likely made a big difference in my effort at Soccer, my interest in team sports and my self esteem in general. Thanks for putting this together.
I dont car what anyone says ..its a stupid rule. I understand it, but that doesnt make it a good rule. I can fix soccer in one sentence, here we go. First get rid of the Offsides rule, second shrink the goal by 1/3 the size, there ya go. First off by shrinking the goal, even if a player cherry picks the goalie or hangs back to get a long ball, its not gonna be easy for him to score, so players will prolly hang back, keep failing, but the game moves much faster. Fixed
@eqgmrdbz thats a terrible idea. The game would end up with two strikers either end and dirty play in the middle trying to hoof the ball into the box too two unmarked strikers. There would be no width to the game either
Say a player has broken away from the second-to-last defender. There is one defender between him and the goal and he is dribbling. Goalkeeper charges the ball. Player pivots and rolls the ball backward with the underside of his foot (I don't know the term for such a move), shielding the ball from the goalie with his body. The player is barely closer to the goal than the ball and there is one defender between him and the goal. Instance of a non-call?
This is a stupid ass rule and this is why football is better than than soccer, yeah I said it "sock her". If they got rid of this stupid ass rule I bet all if America would play this sport. As in basketball it's called cutting back door and creates more scoring. More scoring creates more excitement.
@flacov in fact when scoring becomes difficult, then scoring a goal is exciting. and in a match with lots of goals the excitement is really EXCITEMENT !!!!!
@flacov You're an idiot. Compare the size of a soccer field to the size of a basketball court. Soccer field is at LEAST 10 or 15 times bigger but with only 2 times as many players playing. Therefore, getting rid of offsides would just result in a match of countless break-away goals on an enormous net compared to the size of the ball. You call this exciting? What's the point of having 11 players on each team if only 1 of them will be doing the work? ugh...Americans...
your explanation is incomplete and in some areas wrong. First, goalkeeper plays NO role in an offside offence. When you count the goalkeeper as defender #1 is wrong. the goalie could be all the way in the offensive team's half and still makes no difference in the offside offence. Second, if the player in offside position (call him x) teammate plays the ball in a way that (x) is not affecting the play there would be no offside awarded to the defending team.
@hardkandy91 lol goalkeeper CANNOT be counted as a defender in "Offside Offense". Look, if a defender is behind the goalie, then we have 1 defender, not 2. You don't count the goalkeeper as a defender in offside offence.
@ramin85 Of course goalkeepers are counted, fool. It stipulates '2 players', not '2 defenders' or '2 outfield players'. The concept of a 'defender' is not mentioned in the laws. The only position defined in the laws is a Goalkeeper.
@metallexone Offside rule shows the player's class. If you watch a match with a B class attacker against a A class defense you'll get bored. and that's when the coach substitutes the stupid attacker lol
@MaDDTELEVISION dude it was just a joke... And no I don't have a low IQ, I do gymnasium (netherlands) and that includes latin and greek. So explain that?
lol i remember when i was younger this one kid had such a strong kick that he kicked the ball past everyone on a goal kick to his teammate who was right by the goal and everyone thought it was offsides and got pissed off about it. now i understand why the ref never called offsides. thanks for the video
@ruvolo98 so not true, what if defender is closer to the goal line than goal keeper,if you are passing the ball to your attacking player who is between the keeper and defender, ther is only one man in front of him but that is offside, there must be two...don't be confused by goalkeeper

My coach had to keep telling me to watch out for being offside, but to tell you the truth.. I didn't know what offside really was or how to prevent it until I watched this video , so Thanks !
@akosiabs Soccer and Football are the same game. It's just an other word for it. Soccer comes from the aSOCiation of football, and the term soccer began in Britain in the 1800's, although the older name Football is more common in Britain. As the British invented the game, and Football is the original/older word for it, people should call soccer: football.
You need a couple chips on the shoulders of the lads and the goals, a simple computer program and a button to press when ball is kicked.. You have Birmingham playing against Manchester then Birmingham has the 'blue' chips Manchester the 'red', the goals chips 'goal 1' and 'goal 2.' If blue closer to goal 1 than any red when button is pressed, then offside.
"Soccer" is actually an English term that came from asSOCiation football. Its not of American origin but we do use it to distinguish between "World football" from "American football."
Australians use the word "soccer", also. But you never hear any angry englishman attack an Australian for saying "soccer".
Its all just anti-American bullsh*t.
Anyway, personally, I love both games. Soccer is the #1 game played by women in the US and American football is the #1 game for men.
@scolasticwar No, football in Europe actually requires to be played with the foot and not with the hands, so yeah calling your sport football makes no sense at all.
It makes perfect sense. American football began 150 years ago. It was a running and kicking game back then with roots in rugby, not "soccer".
The first legal forward pass didnt occur until 1906 and was perfected by West Coast teams in the 1960's.
The so called "West Coast Offense", is what the game is about today. The running game and "special teams" (ie, kicking. kick returns and kick coverage) are still important. But it has become a "pass first" league, for sure.
i think it should be mandatory for every soccer player/parent to watch this. as a referee i get rlly fucking pissed off when players dont know the rule. like srs, how can you play a game if you dont even know the damn rules?
@giglfoosm well I can see why you would get pissed because of players and coaches thinking they can do your job, but as an official, you should really do your best to not get pissed. Granted there are certain things that are unavoidable and if the player warrants a penalty, foul, etc. then you have that right as an official to DQ/eject the player in any sport. Remember refs are there to facilitate and mediate. That other power should be used only if absolutely necessary.
lt's called football for a start and what the hell is he on about l still don't get it lol. He has the most boring voice ever! OMG! Sounds like Fifa is describing something else lol.
@oOIAmberIOo yh it is the whole point but things need to be fair its the rule amber deal with it lol if things aint fair ppl will complain and this rule wud have been made anyway its a gd rule lol
I love futbol. Never played it for competition, but this rule I always had trouble understanding. I also love American football. As an American, I say we change the name of American football to Handegg haha.
@bridges24 If that's YOUR logic, but that's not my logic. I was merely correcting your statement that feet are not used in American Football. But yeah, go for it, call it Handball... us Americans will just give you crap that it's called Soccer. Cheers.
@bridges24 I LOVE YOU MAAAN! handegg is such a fantastic word for this "american football" shiz, tbh, i'd be ashamed to be American, I mean, what are they successful at? they aren't the "fattest" country in the World, they came 3rd, ive never seen a successful cricket, rugby or football team. And for their big "handegg" games, they fly all the way to England to play them! I'd just hang my head in shame and wish I lived in Mexico....
You are all pathetic arguing over what the sport is called, its called football, no its called soccer. Who the fuck cares about what its called. You have 3 options: enjoy the sport and respect what people want to call it, make your own sport and call it football or soccer, or GTFO!
Calm down. It's just what we call it. Don't start bashing the whole damn country for shit just because generations before us call it a different name. It's not a big deal, it's not like it'll affect your life in anyway. Why do you let in bother you so much?
I spent half an hour explaining to my wife about the offside rule she said she clearly understood what I was saying about an hour later I was watching ANDY murry in the tennis and the ball was called out my wife shouted is that offside haaaaaa I said u bitch get back in the kitchen
What is said at 1:16 is wrong. You can have one defensive player (the goalkeeper) between you and the goal if the ball is played backwards to you. So if one of your teammates breaks through the defence and is one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he can pass it to you (when you are also behind all the defence) as long as you are behind him, so the ball is played backwards to you.
GOOD LESSON!, BUT REMEMBER THIS, IT'S NOT SOCCER!, IT IS FOOTBALL, FUTBOL OR FUTEBOL. IT IS CALL FOOTBALL BECAUSE YOU PLAY IT WITH THE FEET, NO WITH YOUR HANDS!. I WONDER HOW MUCH MONEY THE NFL(A GREAT SPORT TOO) PAID TO THE MLS TO CALL IT SOCCER. NORTH AMERICANS, IF YOU WANT TO BE THE NUMBER ONE FOR FUTBOL YOU HAVE TO START BY RESPECTING IT'S NAME!. DON'T CHANGE THE NAME OF THE NUMBER ONE SPORT ON THE PLANET!, FUTBOL!---FOOTBALL!---FUTEBOL!---FUTBOL! AND PERIOD!.
Hey mate, hows it going? you like football manager games right? i found this cool one online footy-manager com its very similar to the football manager game. check it out. its pretty cool actually.
Ummm I believe This is FOOTBALL NOT SOCCER ....Why do u call it soccer is because of the american football ? i mean come on football is called that because u play play with your feet ..i mean mainly...american football is mainly played with hands so ?
Football came from Europe yes. I don't know what "soccer" is though, so sadly can't vouch for that. And if by "Saved" you mean "Turned up five years late" then I am going to become a firefighter. It sounds easy. Also, here's the story. Afew hundred brits go to America, afew hundred years later, there are millions of americans. Inbreeding much?
IT'S CALLED FOOTBALL YOU CUNT. AMERICANS. THEY TURN UP LATE FOR WW2, KILL JOHN LENNON, AND THEN CHANGE THE NAME OF FOOTBALL. JUST FUCK OFF EH! YOUR "FOOTBALL" MAKES NO SENSE, YOU DON'T USE YOUR FEET, NOR IS IT A BALL. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@bridges24 hey idiot. learn your history. soccer came from europe as well. the offical name of the sport is "Association Football" - the two nicknames were "Football" (from the 2nd word of the name) and Soccer...a shortening of "Association". Both originated in Europe. And we saved your ass in ww2 so quit complaining. YNWA.
@bridges24 we also invented bubblegum crayons credit cards email the electric guitar flashlights and the effing internet, so screw you we can call it what we want to. also wtf is with cricket, there are no bugs involved. idiot.
@bridges24 Ya because every single American calls it soccer and every single American killed John Lennon, and if you knew anything about WWII we were in the great depression (like almost every country in the world) and we were isolating ourselves so we wouldn't go into more debt.
P.S. American football is retarded, not all of us like it.
@SPARTANLIVE777 answered your own point there. Every country was in a great depression, didn't stop them getting involved though. At least that war was legal though, I suppose. Unlike Iraq...
@bridges24 You Really Shouldn't Be flipping on this Guy, He didn't Do shit all, if American's Wanna Call it Soccer, Fuck thats what they'll call it, yelling at this guy is pointless if you want America to Call it Football in our Country then you take your 'point' to Somone who has alittle more power, but I doubt they'd Litsen to a Dumbass like you... So why don't you yell at people in your own little Fucking Country and stop being alittle whiny Bitch, to us over here.
@bridges24 LMAOOO!! gettin your panties in a bunch over a name? hahahaha soccer! soccer soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer! hahaha soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer!soccer! hows that?
@kemoblue4u . Football right, you make the ball travel, by using the foot, and the object used, is a ball. "American football" you use your hands, to transport a giant egg around the pitch. Therefore, it should be called "handegg."
@bridges24 Really? why dont you call Rugby hand egg? The ends of a rugby ball are round much like an egg and Rugby balls tend to be white like eggs. American Footballs have pointed ends(eggs dont) and are never white.
@kemoblue4u We don't call Rugby hand egg, because Rugby is merely just a town in England. It can't be confused with anything, as it means nothing. Also, eggs in England are brown. I have no idea why!
@bridges24 we turned up late for ww2 cause we had no business being in that war. as far as soccer goes its a name jus cause we call it somthing diffrent doesnt mean its wrong we call it a monkey spanish people call it mono does that make it not a monkey because they call it mono and not what we call it? dont get me wrong i dont like america at all ethier but you should not like us for the right reasons not for stupid reasons i love the place that i live but i hate the people in charge
@bridges24 Dude chill out it just a name who cares if its football or soccer. Its just a name and its just a sport. Why do Europeans hate Americans? Europeans made Americans.
@bridges24 REAL nice comments pal. This would have been a decent video to send to my U11 F team for them to watch before we started to learn the offside rule but due to your caustic language - well, let's just say that my players' parents might have a problem with it. Thanks again!
@TopazSkillMauler How does this mean that America is better? Surely the fact that a sport where you use your HAND to throw an EGG, is named "Football" in America,, makes you more retarded? The word "Football" makes sense if you think about it. You strike the object with your foot (hence it having the word foot in it) and the object is called a "ball", hence it having the word ball in. You learn something every day my friend.
@gnaviselarom So by that logic, real football, should be called handball, because the hands are used for throw ins, and when the 'keeper throws the ball.
@bridges24 Dude, the name Soccer came from the Brits who needed to distinguish the game from other kinds of football (like rugby). Blame them, for having too many foot sports.
@bridges24 Fuck you. your just jealous your not american and you live in a dirt poor country or just a shit country like England. Its Soccer. Football is the greatest sport, you just dont understand. Football is bigger in the U.S. than Soccer in England. U-S-A. USA aint no one to fuck with. God bless America and not your shitty ass country. Go have some tea or whatever the hell they do where you live. USA fucking bitch!
@bridges24 Soccer is an abbreviation of assoc which is also an abbreviation for Football Association. Learn what the fuck you're talking about you fucking Cunt.
@bridges24 I'm an american and I hate American football. Love your football though. No need to get angry. You obviously understand what "soccer" is referring too. I know the name football is dumb for our version.
@vi70h Well yes, but here in the States Soccer is accepted and has been adopted as the name. Everyone should know it's known as Association Football or Football (Unfortunately not everyone does) The problem with that here in the US at least is we have a
offside in 1 sentence: a player who is during a pass is closer to the goal line than the 2nd last opponent AND the ball!

The so called "West Coast Offense", is what the game is about today. The running game and "special teams" (ie, kicking. kick returns and kick coverage) are still important. But it has become a "pass first" league, for sure.

i think it should be mandatory for every soccer player/parent to watch this. as a referee i get rlly fucking pissed off when players dont know the rule. like srs, how can you play a game if you dont even know the damn rules?
giglfoosm 7 months ago
@giglfoosm well I can see why you would get pissed because of players and coaches thinking they can do your job, but as an official, you should really do your best to not get pissed. Granted there are certain things that are unavoidable and if the player warrants a penalty, foul, etc. then you have that right as an official to DQ/eject the player in any sport. Remember refs are there to facilitate and mediate. That other power should be used only if absolutely necessary.

@bridges24 If that's YOUR logic, but that's not my logic. I was merely correcting your statement that feet are not used in American Football. But yeah, go for it, call it Handball... us Americans will just give you crap that it's called Soccer. Cheers.
gnaviselarom 8 months ago
@gnaviselarom I never said the feet are never used in Handegg, but it is primarily the hands.
bridges24 8 months ago
@bridges24 I LOVE YOU MAAAN! handegg is such a fantastic word for this "american football" shiz, tbh, i'd be ashamed to be American, I mean, what are they successful at? they aren't the "fattest" country in the World, they came 3rd, ive never seen a successful cricket, rugby or football team. And for their big "handegg" games, they fly all the way to England to play them! I'd just hang my head in shame and wish I lived in Mexico....

You are all pathetic arguing over what the sport is called, its called football, no its called soccer. Who the fuck cares about what its called. You have 3 options: enjoy the sport and respect what people want to call it, make your own sport and call it football or soccer, or GTFO!

warrior7466 9 months ago 2
Good explanation, helpful for my kiddo to see when you traverse from offsides to not-offsides
drewmize 9 months ago
What is said at 1:16 is wrong. You can have one defensive player (the goalkeeper) between you and the goal if the ball is played backwards to you. So if one of your teammates breaks through the defence and is one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he can pass it to you (when you are also behind all the defence) as long as you are behind him, so the ball is played backwards to you.
887960 9 months ago
I"m still confused. get rid of this stupid rule. Soccer needs higher scoring games , which is a helluva lot more entertaining.

@bridges24 hey idiot. learn your history. soccer came from europe as well. the offical name of the sport is "Association Football" - the two nicknames were "Football" (from the 2nd word of the name) and Soccer...a shortening of "Association". Both originated in Europe. And we saved your ass in ww2 so quit complaining. YNWA.

wiiarewin 9 months ago
@bridges24 Ya because every single American calls it soccer and every single American killed John Lennon, and if you knew anything about WWII we were in the great depression (like almost every country in the world) and we were isolating ourselves so we wouldn't go into more debt.
P.S. American football is retarded, not all of us like it.
SPARTANLIVE777 9 months ago
@SPARTANLIVE777 answered your own point there. Every country was in a great depression, didn't stop them getting involved though. At least that war was legal though, I suppose. Unlike Iraq...

kemoblue4u 9 months ago
@kemoblue4u . Football right, you make the ball travel, by using the foot, and the object used, is a ball. "American football" you use your hands, to transport a giant egg around the pitch. Therefore, it should be called "handegg."
bridges24 9 months ago 2
@bridges24 Really? why dont you call Rugby hand egg? The ends of a rugby ball are round much like an egg and Rugby balls tend to be white like eggs. American Footballs have pointed ends(eggs dont) and are never white.
kemoblue4u 9 months ago
@kemoblue4u We don't call Rugby hand egg, because Rugby is merely just a town in England. It can't be confused with anything, as it means nothing. Also, eggs in England are brown. I have no idea why!
bridges24 9 months ago
@bridges24 we turned up late for ww2 cause we had no business being in that war. as far as soccer goes its a name jus cause we call it somthing diffrent doesnt mean its wrong we call it a monkey spanish people call it mono does that make it not a monkey because they call it mono and not what we call it? dont get me wrong i dont like america at all ethier but you should not like us for the right reasons not for stupid reasons i love the place that i live but i hate the people in charge

@bridges24 So the rest of the world can't comprehend one word. Lol. america > world
TopazSkillMauler 8 months ago
@TopazSkillMauler How does this mean that America is better? Surely the fact that a sport where you use your HAND to throw an EGG, is named "Football" in America,, makes you more retarded? The word "Football" makes sense if you think about it. You strike the object with your foot (hence it having the word foot in it) and the object is called a "ball", hence it having the word ball in. You learn something every day my friend.
bridges24 8 months ago
@bridges24 Ok so basically you think america > world. K
TopazSkillMauler 8 months ago
@bridges24 The word "soccer" comes from an alteration of "assoc.", which is an
abbreviation of "association football" asSOC+-as/soc=soccer.

@bridges24 Actually, the feet are used in punting and field goal kicks. Get your facts straight before you start bashing.

@gnaviselarom So by that logic, real football, should be called handball, because the hands are used for throw ins, and when the 'keeper throws the ball.
