Why describe the evolution of god after conceding that there is no evidence of His existence? I'm not particularly interested in the evolution of unicorns.
@SlugChristie in other words, the reason why analyses on God and the evolution of god are so important is because of the echos of these faiths upon different people's behavioral models.
As Carl Jung put it in an interview: "I don't believe, I know there is a God". It is actually quite ridiculous to doubt the existence of a source of intelligent life, even if it just Big Banged it all off. Everything existing points to a source of it. You have to establish your criteria and then proceed to argue in that framework. There is the emotional-intuitive aspect, the creational, interventional, etc. Logically I cannot see a building without knowing of an architect. Call me naive.
The answer is FEAR. That is where god comes from. If we want to be governed by the basest of human emotions then keep trying to explain god. If you want to move forward you have to let go of the idea of a deity. Period.
He made some good points, but you can still see the influence of creationism on his thinking. There's still a part in him that tries to believe in god. And to say that this is more satisfying than Hitchens, Dawkins, and even Harris, well I do not agree at all.
I stopped listening after Robert Wright opened his mouth, and uttered-as one has come to expect-his first incoherent sentence from his always confused crack-brained mind.
This man's critique of religion and understanding of its role in the lives of human beings is so much less satisfying than that of Hitchens, Dawkins, and even Harris.

@fromthesestones I totally agree. Atheist scholars make some really insightful arguments when they're compassionate to the underlying concepts of other religions. Salman Rushdie is another good speaker on the topic, he also had a great interview with Bill Moyers.
Those other three you mentioned always seem to be preaching to their choirs.
@H3LM13002 I enjoyed it very much. I didn't agree with every conclusion he came to but I think he has some insights that are very important for people to understand. He's a very open minded person actually, and does a much better job at bringing compromise into religion and the modern age than those who are hostile towards religion like Hitchens and the like.
I agree with lots of what he says, but 23:23 he says Israel was a secular struggle ? Yikes. Jewish people are a polity and their goal was/is to establish the Jewish State of Israel. It's an interesting bias to hold.
16:52 When I was in high school there was a field I would walk home through, and I remember seeing a weed that i had killed in my back yard. I was able to see this plant grow to my height, and it was more beautiful than any plant in the gardens of my home. The plant was willing to grow for free, but because of my judgement, I killed it before it could become this beautiful addition to my backyard. If I ever find it again I'm going to transplant it, honor it, and let it grow tall.
Okay the "being" you are being judged by is YOU...! It's the 3rd law of existence. "What you put out, is what you will get back." It's a self sistaining system in nature. What the movie "The Secrete". What you put out, is what you get back. This is why it's so important to be so CAREFUL of what you beleive in. What you believe and practice is what the universe will bring to you. It's part of your NATURAL GIVEN GOD POWER that gets turned off when the religious vail gets pulled over your eyes.
You can have God without religion. Religion is a blinding tool to control the masses. They way it works is through fear of HELL. Do this, do that... or you will surely go to hell. BLA BLA BLA. You and I and everything in the UNIVERSE IS GOD experiencing him/her/itself. All of existense, including Hell as well as Heaven is the True "GOD/HEAVEN" experiencing itself. Be careful what you believe. You have GOD power in what you believe and will manafest EXACTLY WHAT YOU BELIEVE. So Believe VERY HIGH.
Listen Closely. Religion is a controlling tool for the elite to harnes over your head and around your neck like a dog leash. It is a blinding vail tool and is put upon you through teaching you to fear burning in hell. If you afraid and not sure if hell exists or not, then you are more likely to follow the alternative nonsensical religious teachings. Look in the sky and ask yourself if one single religion is controlling all of intelliigent life on all of the planets the have beings on them.
for an evolutionary psychologist he seems pritty ignorant about the power of the evolution of ideas to change the way we can comprehend the universe.
our brains are no physically different to our caveman ancestors, but we can comprehend things they wouldn't have been able to come close to grasping even a rough idea of.
religious people get along better when they drop the extreme tenets of their faiths. in other words, they get along better when they don't take their religion too seriously.
I would just add one thing... When u end up with Religion, you will also end with separation and create more UNITY! Religion was created by someone very clever with the goal of separate us from each other.
This was a fascinating discussion with a creative theme of theology and moral. Between 20:17 - 21:22 he mentioned a very good point regarding the nature of religious doctrines and human behavior.
