While the discussion seems to have digressed towards Christmas rather than the quality of the music, let me say that this choir and organ have always delighted me. I cannot compare this group with more recent ones, but it is indeed glorious.
@hampshireman65 It really should be about unconditional love, helping the lonely, the sad, the helpless and needy. Gods gift - Christ's love, no matter what...no rules, no doctrine, just love, " Occupy Christmas" and this would be a better world...
all the best of the Season... you have the right feeling at least.... cheers.
This is the best arrangement of the carol.... if you have ever heard it scored for full orchestra even better....often wish Kings College would release a Christmas album ...fully scored with Organ.... Merry Christmas from Canada
This reminds me of singing in the school choir as a boy, it still sends a shiver down my spine as it did then, a lovely song to sing, it was almost frightening as a child
Perfectionism what achieves the perfection. For five minutes I was initiated in Celtic rituals combined with Byzantine and Latin incantations. And all in the form of diptychs Christmas carols told through music. All is uplifting!
Hearing descants, even ones as beautiful as the one here, make me glad I'm an alto! Such a wonderful carol and sung by quite possibly the best choir in the country
BEST. ARRANGEMENT. EVER!! My choir sang this for the procession to the crib with the statue of baby Jesus. It was so touching, there wasn't a dry eye in church!
I just love the way the sound of the choir and organ reverberates in that chapel sanctuary especially toward the end of the song during the climax crescendo when the boy soprano voices come through. Just sounds awesome!
All tho I am looking forward to xmas I am not too because it will be my first ever christmas without my dog who I grew up with and I know I am going to hear this song many times and it makes me want to cry so much<3x:3 But I will still listen to this and personally dedicate it just to him<3x
All tho I am looking forward to xmas I am not too because it will be my first ever christmas without my dog who I grew up with and I know I am going to hear this song many times and it makes me want to cry so much<3x:3
Being a former organist,I can say this was my favorite. The choir, strings, and a Moller organ...yep. The procession was my favorite. I do miss playing. I would "open it up" for Midnight Mass. Keep the pipe organs going!
To me, Christmas isn't about celebrating anything but family and friends. Regardless of religion, I feel it should be this way with everyone. The spirit of giving doesn't need a deity as an excuse. I love Christmas, and although Agnostic, I will celebrate it every December 25th for the rest of my life.
As an agnostic, you have no objective foundation for making such a statement. Why should it be good to give or spend time with friends and family, if that's a subjective truth? People treat their friends and family like crap 364 days a year, but come the 24th you're suddenly "good" to each other? That is is the most stupidest thing you could say. Once again, if you can tell me under what authority it's "good" to treat each other is such a manner, then I'll respect it.
@RossWZA A person who subscribes to a belief system is just as capable -- and just as ignorant -- as a person who exercises his freedom not to believe.
I used to sing this in school in the mid 80s, and since leaving I never go to church or anything...but looking back I must admit I did feel so good singing these songs about god and stuff, I think it really is a good thing.
England isnt what it once was it was such a lovely country, now its even agaisnt the law to read storys about father christmas due to other religeons... :(
As usual, A superb presentation from Kings. Would have been enhanced by being sung in Latin. But even, sung in in English just brings tears to the eyes. May they sing for many more years to come. ₤ance.
Years ago, Christmas evolved into a painful and bitter time of year for me. I pretty much endure the season for the sake of children; if not for them I would find only heartache in December.
However, last year on the Sunday of Christmas, I turned on my car radio to hear King's College Choir performing this carol. For just a sweet moment, the bitterness was gone and I was young and eager for the Advent season.
The warmth lastest only as long as the song, but it was cherished.
@megaepicname Well I can't speak for anyone else, but I weep buckets when I worship God, because my pitiful human emotions are so overwhelmed by how wonderful, amazing, almighty, and truly, truly loving our God is!
This is a wonderful absoluetly marvellous rendition of my favourite christmas carol. It is utterly beautifull, one day I hope I may be able to see kings college choir perform in person.
csheff1014, thank you very much for posting this video. christmas sngs sang beautifully always bring back beautiful childhood memories, especially for an adult so far away from home such as me. happy holidays!!
I've long considered "Adeste Fidelis" to be the finest and noblest of the traditional, "mainline" Christmas hymns. In fact, the ONLY Christmas hymn that I rank higher is the Harold Darke setting of "In the Bleak Midwinter," but qualitative comparison is difficult since the styles are so different. "Coventry Carol" seriously rivals but does not excel "Adeste Fidelis" in my view. To be diplomatic, I respect the opinions of those who best like "Do You Hear What I Hear?" but keep it away from me!
Wow, those extremely high notes that those boys are reaching are phenomenal! Sort of a climax at around 2:49. The pipe organ sounds wonderful as well!
You know what? Just all you nitpickers with your 'spelling' and 'Stickatoe' just chillax out and enjoy this wonderful rendition. Until you can do better, just shut your cakeholes. it's Christmas for Gods sake! Jesus!
WoW, tho would be nicer with more harmony and on the 1st line of the chorus its meant to be in sticcato, then 2nd line a bit sticcato then 3rd line is meant to be a legato with a big crescendo

@AndrewHaworthxx do you ACTUALLY have any idea what you're talking about, cause considering i've sang this song numerous times all round the world, both in english and latin and yet i have the music here infront of me as i type and it isn't supposed to be *staccato* which suprisingly for someone who's trying to pull off the fact they have any idea what they are talking about YOU can't even spell correctly. So don't be criticising one of the BEST choirs of all times, and yourself getting it wrong
