@hjhhkq obviously u did not understand OP so well. there are two reasons that shanks lost his arm to a shark; 1st in that situation shanks could not release his haki fully otherwise it would hurt the little luffy ; 2nd shanks made a bet on luffy for the next generation, so he let the shark bit of his arm in order to teach young luffy that the strangth of the best pirates is not only the force of power,more importantly is the courage to sacrifice themself in order to protect thier nakama
@YangQinTony1117 Actually Shanks didn't let the shark bite him, or not release his haki because it would hurt Luffy. The actually reason is that he used his Haki to get to Luffy so quickly and as stated by Reighley (or however you spell it) you can't spam Haki.

shanks is the inbetween. the generation that guides the old age into the new age. hes the one who gave luffy the hat. the very same hat we know belonged to rodger. his power in comparison to WB is irrelevant, whilst i would still say he is probably equal or very close. hence the influence he had in the war of the best. and his arm is clearly not a hinderance, he lost it over a decade ago and he has still gone on to become one of the four. besides zoro lost an eye (apparently) and he's a beast!!

When Ace was captured Whitebeard had a reason to fight the Marines but Shanks helped him by stopping Kaido from a rear attack. The new generation are just punks and apart from Shanks the Yonko seem to be rather bad (Big Mam eats people!)

@Made4Fan Blackbeard gave shanks the scar when shanks was still an apprentice on Gol D Roger's ship. Apparently back then many years ago the Whitebeard pirates clashed with Gol d roger's men. Blackbeard was offered the 2nd division commander's post before but he rejected it.

I think if whitebeard wouldn't have been deadly hit by his son ,he probably would have destroyed the whole island alone.also i think if it was shanks who would have died at the place of WB and wb would arrive at the end, the marine and blackbeard would also be scared to continue fighting.one thing is sure we will miss ace and WB.hope OP shows some flashback fights of them

shanks is the inbetween. the generation that guides the old age into the new age. hes the one who gave luffy the hat. the very same hat we know belonged to rodger. his power in comparison to WB is irrelevant, whilst i would still say he is probably equal or very close. hence the influence he had in the war of the best. and his arm is clearly not a hinderance, he lost it over a decade ago and he has still gone on to become one of the four. besides zoro lost an eye (apparently) and he's a beast!!

@KingOfAce24 Whitebeard is a true 'Emperor' in that he respects his peers, which included Shanks, Sengoku, Garp and Roger- all of whom would give him a massive battle, but utterly pointless and lethal to their men. When Ace was captured Whitebeard had a reason to fight the Marines but Shanks helped him by stopping Kaido from a rear attack. The new generation are just punks and apart from Shanks the Yonko seem to be rather bad (Big Mam eats people!)

@Made4Fan Blackbeard gave shanks the scar when shanks was still an apprentice on Gol D Roger's ship. Apparently back then many years ago the Whitebeard pirates clashed with Gol d roger's men. Blackbeard was offered the 2nd division commander's post before but he rejected it.

So isn't it clear enough that they fought long ago when whitebeard clashed with gol d roger? U just go onepiece wikia and look for shanks im sure they have reference chapters. And Ace asked BB before why he didnt want to become the 2nd division commander means that obviously BB has been offered the position

@MrSequx But Shanks was on Rogers ship and was able to fight Mihawk on equal ground before losing his arm (Mihawk never actually challenged him again after that)
And Shanks is capable of taking on Whitebeard and fight him toe to toe or even beat him. (Well I mean he was (as WB is dead now).
And Marines fear him and even Blackbeard (who was not afraid of Whitebeard)

@trummar13 The "fight" was just one hit, neither did they take it serious so you cant argue with that. They wouldnt want to sink the ship theyre standing on, while being on the open sea. BB only dared to face WB because WB stood with one leg in the grave before he even got to the war and had the ability to neutralize everything,at the end of the war WB he was nearly dead and BB still got several quakes to the face. His crew had to step in so that he wouldnt be stomped like a bug.
